SpecialEducation
Updated 7-23-2020
The Killeen ISD special education program has worked in conjunction with various
district teams to identify methods that ensure the continued education for our
students with special needs, whether provided in a virtual setting or in within the walls
of the school building. Remote instruction for your child will be accessible
and individualized to your child through the KISD Virtual Learning program. Students
choosing the virtual learning option, will have regular contact with their assigned
classroom teacher to ensure the IEP and goals are being addressed either through
zoom sessions or through recorded lessons. If the distance/virtual learning option
affects the District’s ability to provide some direct services or provisions of the IEP,an
ARD will be needed to address the instructional program in a virtual setting.
Killeen ISD’s Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings will continue through the
Zoom platform or by telephone. We will ensure that required campus participants are
in attendance. However, if one wishes to participate in person for an ARD, the campus
will work to accommodate the request.
For those with Related Services identified in the IEP and working remotely,
instructional providers will contact you individually to determine the best method
to continue services. When appropriate, KISD has successfully used Teletherapy
during the spring and summer months and will continue to do so for those
learning remotely.
Special Education evaluation personnel are working to complete evaluations.
Currently evaluations are being done on site, but KISD is working to gain the
resources necessary to provide virtual evaluations. Evaluation staff and campus
personnel will be in contact and welcome families to contact the school as well.
Social Distancing
KISD will encourage social distancing on campuses and during
extracurricular activities to the greatest extent possible.
KISD will limit large gatherings, close playground equipment on campuses
and cancel field trips.
Campuses will remain closed environments to external visitors.
Appointments will be required until further notice.
KISD will provide school supplies for each student to reduce communal use.
Parents will be asked to provide select personal items.
