The family and friends of Dr. Albert Varacallo would like to thank all who participated, donated and volunteered their time and talent to make the 5th Anniversary Memorial Event held on Sunday August 2nd a huge success! We were blessed with beautiful weather, and a great turnout that day. We were very excited to have the inaugural bike race this year with over 40 cyclists who participated, a spin bike session with 30 participants, Doc’s bike safety rodeo for kids, and a memory walk. Congratulations to the men’s and women’s overall winners: Jim Doan and Marianne Mekis!! This year we raised $15,000 for the Dr. Albert Varacallo Foundation, whose purpose is to provide scholarships to students who are interested in furthering their education in the health care field. In addition, the foundation intends to spread awareness regarding safety issues while using different modes of transportation on the highways. A special thank you to Paula DuBois, Dan Dowling, & Staff of the DuBois Area YMCA, who helped coordinate the event and provide the facilities; Herm Suplizio, City of DuBois manager; Dave Monella, Sandy Township manager; DuBois and Sandy Township Police Departments, Sandy Township Fire Department, and DuBois EMS Ambulance service, who provided for the safety of our riders; Jeff and Lisa Aucker for the dove release; Scott Johnson who donated the spin bikes; Sandy Stom who led the spin bike session; Jim and Rich from Planet Bike; Dave Toohey from North Central Highway Safety Network; Garnet Ninoski of PennDot; Connect FM radio; Jason Weber of Praxair; Luigi’s Ristorante; Brady Street Beer Distributor; LaBue Printing; Arc Restaurants/ Pizza Hut; Dan’s Pro Shop; The Courier Express; Martin’s Supermarket; Giant Eagle; and DJ services provided by VCity Bros, LLC. A very special thank you is expressed to all the volunteers and flaggers who helped to make the day run smoothly. We want to extend a special thank you to Terry Maher and the volunteers from the Tour de Brockway Bike Race. We are also very grateful to all the sponsors and donors of our event this year. It couldn’t be done without all of you! See you next year for the 6th anniversary celebration! Thank You!
