A Typical Day of a One Year Old

Getting Ready
• As a baby wakes up, the mother will pick him up and get ready for the day.
• The mother gives the baby a diaper change and gives the baby something to play with as distraction in order to get the job done.
8:00 am
Getting Ready…
• As the baby start to get dressed by the mothers help, he would also either be given a another object or communicative distraction.
Playing
• One year olds engage in social games such as “hide and seek” and more complex games.
• Playing is healthy. It enhances the growth of social skills and gaining muscle control as well as coordination and motor control.

• They can turn on the TV, open windows and get into cupboards.
• Pincer grasp is displayed. Picking up things like bugs and grass is now very amusing.
Meal Time
• Healthy foods are very important for one years olds to achieve proper growth.
• Graham crackers, Rice • Broccoli, Green Beans, Peas• Apples, Mangos, Nectarines • Nuts, Turkey
• Iodine, Iron, protein, and Vitamin A
12:00 pm
Meal Time…
• Children can suffer from malnutrition:– Marasmus- insufficient quantity of food– Kwashiorkor- insufficient protein– Stunting- failure to achieve
full height
– 30% of children under age 5 suffer from malnutrition
Nap Time
• One year olds are still rapidly growing and need
as much sleep as they can get.
•By this age most babies are very active in crawling and exploring their surroundings but napping is still a big part in their development.
3:00 pm
Nap Time• Most babies at this age take from one nap
in the morning and one nap in the afternoon.
• These naps range from 20 minutes to 3 hours.
Dinner Time
Benefits of breastfeeding for your baby • Reduces risk of obesity. • Builds immunities to fight infections. • Enhances brain development
• It varies from country to country when weaning occurs.
• Complementary feeding usually occurs around 6-9 months.
7:00 pm
Bed Time
• Stimulating senses and learning through: • reading (concentration, attention spans, reflex of
grasping), • being able to sit up in bed• auditory (hearing a story) • visual (dream catchers) • coordination (coloring)
-Bedtime between 7:30 and 8:30 at night.
8:00 pm
Bed Time
• Regulating senses: drowsiness at certain time of night
• Typically, they sleep for about 11 1/2 hours at night with two naps during the day for a total of about 14 hours.
• Wish we could sleep that much!
