• A sentence always tells who or what and what happens.

Statements

A statement is a sentence that tells something.

Use a period (.) to end a statement.

Examples

Open your mouth.

Please, bring the pizza to the table.

Do 10 push-ups.

Complete all your homework before you go out to play. Mom, please tie my shoes.

Questions

A question is a sentence that asks something.

Use a question mark (?) to end a question.

Examples

What is your favorite song?

May I borrow the newspaper?

Do you ride the bus?Did he turn on the light?

Exclamation

An exclamation expresses a strong feeling.

It ends with an exclamation mark (!).

Examples

Happy Birthday Tom!

Ouch, that hurt!Banana splits are the best desserts!
