Blended Malt or Vatted Malt A co mb in at io n of si ng le mal ts fr om va ri ou s distilleries is called a Vatted Malt or Blended Malt. A V at te d Ma lt co nt ai ns a n um be r of ma lt wh is ki es that have been skillfully blended together to create a consistent whisky with its own distinct and identifiable character. Grain Whisky Usually made from corn, maize, or other grains rather than malted barley. It is distilled in continuous distillation process stills known as Coffey stills (apparatus used in distil l ation) i ns t e ad of the pot still used for single malt whisky. A bl en d ed sc ot ch wh is ky ma y co nt ai n a co mb in at io n o f whiskies from over 40 or 50 different malt and grain distilleries. The normal ratio of malt to grain is 60% grain and 40% malt.
