TYPES OF CELLS
• We have more than 200 types of cells in our bodies.
• There isn’t really such a thing as a typical cell.
• Different cells are specialized for different functions.
TYPES OF CELLS
• Some organisms are unicellular (one celled)
• Some organisms are multicellular (many celled)
• Some cells are prokaryotic (no nucleus)ex. bacteria, archaea
• Some cells are eukaryotic (have a nucleus)
ex. plants, animals, fungi, protists
CELL SPECIALIZATION
• Cells – Tissues – Organs - Organ Systems• Tissues – group of cells working together
Ex. Bone tissue, blood tissue, connective tissue• Organs – group of tissues working together
Ex. Heart – made of muscle, blood, and nerve tissues
• Organ systems – group of organs working together Ex. Circulatory system – includes heart, blood vessels, lungs
