TWR on FM in MalawiOn December 16, 2000 TWR Malawi FM went on air with initial coverage to Blantyre and the surrounding area. TWR was given permission to extend the FM network and by June 2003 the network was heard in central Malawi loud and clear for 24-hours hours everyday.

In order to complete the national FM expansion, a decision was made to move the play centre from Blantyre to Lilongwe. On the 16th of August 2004, the signal successfully originated from the Lilongwe studios of TWR thereby extending the FM signal further north of the country.

TWR MalawiTWR started work in Malawi in 1985 from Lilongwe where the current national offices and broadcast centre are located.

Up to the year 2000, all TWR Malawi transmissions were on shortwave from Manzini, Swaziland in the Chichewa, English and Chitumbuka languages.

Our historyTWR is an international Christian broadcasting ministry founded in 1952 by Dr Paul Freed. Four years earlier, Dr. Freed in Switzerland thought he was to be a missionary to Spain.

Instead of telling people one to one, Freed was led of God to consider radio as the means of telling many people about Jesus.

TWR’s first programmes were aired to Spain in 1954 in Spanish and English. Today, listeners in over 160 countries can hear God’s word taught in more than 180 languages through TWR.

This meant that Blantyre and the entire Southern part of Malawi was receiving the FM signal from Lilongwe. At this point it was discovered that to be more strategic technically and administratively TWR should implement a national FM network.

TWR Malawi has continued to supply programmes to Swaziland which air for a few hours each day. While here in Malawi, we now have a 24-hour opportunity to listen to broadcasts in Chichewa, English, Chiyao and Chitumbuka.

Why Choose TWR Malawi?TWR Malawi boasts of the widest coverage in Malawi and beyond with approximately six million potential listeners. Favorable response has been received from as far away as Mozambique and Zambia. This means your message will reach many people. Your investment in advertising on TWR would be worth every kwacha.
