<1> G Known descendants of Johannes (Hans) Wenger, 1680~ 1749.9.9-, G, º <3> According to tradition Hans was a weaver. He married Hannah, 1685~,, (i1749.9.9) º about 1704. See Wenger Clan Notes page 103. TWB states that he fled to Zweibrücken, Germany due to religious persecution. His first three sons immigrated to Pennsylvania and his fourth son Martin stayed in Europe. His date of death is prior to Sept. 9, 1749, the date that his wife arrived in America. He died in Europe prior to her leaving. See Wenger Clan Notes page 10 and TWB page 103. It has been reported that he died of his wounds from religious persecution. It appears that he was about age 65 to 70 at the time of his death. TWB gives that the evidence indicates that his father was Ulrich Wenger. Ulrich Wenger, 1667.8.11b 1759.1.24 of Röthenbach did have a son Hans, 1694.11.25b. (ERP1) This cannot be our Hans as his son Hans was born in 1705. PK found a Johannes Wenger who was christened on 1685.1.1 at Thierachern, Bern, Switzerland and buried Aug. 17, 1728 (LDS information). To accept this Johannes as G is to accept that he died much prior to the immigration date of 1749, something that is inconsistent with the tradition that he died shortly before Hannah's departure in 1749. We are looking for a Hans Wenger born about 1680, most likely in the region of Bern, Switzerland. ERP1 gives an Ulrich Wenger, 1635.8.30 who married Anna Ruegsegger at Röthenbach and who had five children who lived at Röthenbach. ERP1 gives several Hans Wengers born early 1600s at Thurnen. ERP1 gives an Ulrich Wenger, 1640.1.7 with four children. He married Christina Rupp at Wattenwil on June 23, 1660. It seems clear that the parents of our Hans Wenger have yet to be identified..

Hannah wife of Hans Wenger, 1685~, (i1749.9.9) º Born in Switzerland.Came to PA in 1749 with her two sons Christian and Michael. Johannes and hisfamily had gone to Pennsylvania the previous year. Her husband Johannes(Hans) Wenger, 1680~ 1749.9.9-, G, º had died in the Canton of Bern,Switzerland prior to this move. A story exists in the TWB of Hannah hiding inher home from the authorities from the church who came to see why she hadnot come to church. Buried near Manheim, Lancaster Co., PA probably on herson Christian's farm cem. No stone exists for her or for Christian. A Canadiangenealogy gives her father as Sherrick but without source.

•Johannes (Hans) Wenger, 1705 1772.6.1-, G1, (i1748.9.16) Born in the Bernese area (most likely the Emmenthal region) of Switzerland.Several authors give that he was born at Bern which can be the Canton of Bern.It has been widely held that Hans married Anna Shirk, 1705~ 1771,(i1748.9.16) the dau. of Casper Shirk (Sherrick), 1710~ 1770, H,(i1732.5.15) who later sold Hans his original property. This has not beenverified and the approximate dates for Anna and Casper would indicateotherwise. A note in the papers of NWN state that the fact that he marriedAnna Shirk is recorded in Casper's Bible and that the marriage took place inEurope. It is not clear who Casper is. It is here assumed that Casper is Anna'sbrother or cousin and not her father. This would mean that Hans bought landfrom his brother-in-law or cousin and not his father-in-law. The marriage wasabout 1727. Left Switzerland due to religious persecution and settled in about1744 in Zweibrücken of the Lower Palatinate on the Rhine. Mennonite. Somehave reported that all of his children were born in the Palatinate, but thisrequires that he would have arrived at an earlier date. The 1744 date wouldmean that all of his children were born in Switzerland. Arrived at the age of 43in Philadelphia on Sept. 16,1748 via the Ship Patience, John Brown, Masterfrom Rotterdam, last from Cowes. The numbering of Hans's children as givenin TWB is not correct. He traveled with his children Stephen G11 (age 20),Christian G12 (age 18), Judith (age 16), John (Hans) G14 (age 16), Maria G15(age 13), Henry G16 (age 11), Abraham G17 (age 8) and Martin G18 (age 6).The family settled in Bethel Twp. (now Swatara Twp., originally Lancaster Co.now Lebanon Co.) one half mile northeast of present Jonestown, Lebanon Co.,PA The farm that he settled on in 1749 is stated as being 125 (170, see below)acres and was purchased for $125.00 from Casper Shirrock (Shirk, Sherk,Sherrick), 1710~ 1770, H, (i1732.5.15) who bought the land in 1740 from JohnPenn, Thomas Penn and Richard Penn, sons of William Penn. Warrent #250(Bureau of Land Records-Harrisburg, PA) (Oct. 5, 1738 to Casper Sherk for 200acres on Swatara Creek in Bethel Twp., Lancaster (now Lebanon) Co. SurveyedMarch 31, 1740 for 170 acres. Patented (Pat. A120-279-29) to Casper Sherk onNov. 29, 1745. Signed by Thomas Penn, son of William Penn.) (Nov. 1, 1749Deed P-94-Lancaster Co., Casper and Magdalena Sherick sell land of 170 acresto John Wenger. DLW There is also a patent number A-77-189 associated withthis property. NWN gives that the first survey used a White Oak tree at thesouth west corner as a maker and that the tree was still standing in the 1950s.Neighbors were Nicholas Youngblood, Peter Lane, George Hauck and JacobMiller. Same land as in Warrant #250) On July 3, 1767, John Wenger of BethelTwp., Lancaster Co. sold to son John 62 acres, 76 p. for $373. 6s. S P. (boundedby John Wenger and Stephen Wenger). On July 3, 1767, John Wenger Sr. soldto Stephen Wenger 2 1/2 acres, Stephen Wenger willed above to his son Johnand wife. On June 16, 1800, John Wenger of Dauphin Co. Bethel Twp., sold 179acres, 52 perch to Jacob Wenger for $800 in gold and silver. On June 6, 1816,John Wenger and Anna his wife sold 2 1/2 acres to Jacob Wenger and Anna hiswife for 125£ being tract Stephen bought of John Sr. on July 3, 1767 and whichhe willed to son John. Through the above transactions Jacob Wenger, son ofJohn b. 1778 d. 1857 wife Barbara Wolf, became the owner of the homesteadtract and his descendants maintained possesion for many years. It was perhapsowned by John L. Wenger in 1900. The farm was purchased by RollinReinheimer and his wife. It is reported that it was then purchased by the Yoderfamily. The original deed and instruments of transfer were in the possession ofMrs. Lizzie Wenger Boud, G140533 of Jonestown in 1970. The current locationof this deed is unknown. Site of farm on elevation overlooking the fertile valleyof Big Swatara Creek. Wenger Cem. is situated on the northwest corner of theproperty. The Wenger meeting house is located in a corner of the cem.. Hans'sbrothers Christian G3 and Michael G2 arrived with their widowed motherHannah in PA on Sept. 9, 1749 and settled in Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., PA.The numbering of his offspring was corrected from earlier records and isreflected here and on his memorial stone placed in the Wenger Cem. in 1994.

His will was dated Sept. 15, 1771 and probated June 1, 1772 so his date ofdeath is sometime between these two dates. His son John was executor. Hansis no doubt buried in the Wenger Cem., but no stone exists. It is thought thathe and Anna are buried under a wall of the Wenger meeting house. There iscurrently a sagging under a window area. It is thought that the sagging is dueto the earth having been excavated for the graves. It is reported that while thechurch was being constructed the grave was exposed, but they continued withthe construction.

•Michael Wenger, 1710~ 1791.1.15, G2, (i1749.9.9) Arrived withhis brother Christian G3 and their widowed mother in PA on Sept. 9, 1749 viathe ship 'St. Andrew', from Rotterdam, last from Plymouth. Took the oath ofallegance to the King of England, as required by the Penns on Sept. 9, 1749 andsettled near what is now Mastersonville, Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Thespelling of his name on the ship's register Wagner though that of his brotherand mother is Wenger. Assuming the same person the name Wagner is on anassessment list for Lebanon Twp., in 1750. On an assessment list for the sametwp in 1759 the name is Wagoner. On the outside of the deed to his RaphoTwp., land we see Wagner. Within the deed are the spellings Waggner andWagoner and a correction to spell Wegner. When he died and his sonsreceived the deed the name is spelled Wenger, though it was signed by themas Wegner. In the Rapho Twp., tax list his name was always spelled Wenger as itwas in the 1780 census. In early years his sons John and Isaac used Wegner andin later years Wenger. He died intestate and his estate was sold to his son Isaacand recorded as Wenger. Michael had no grandsons, so the Wenger name isnot carried past his next generation, but his descendants are found among thethe Gibble/Gibbel and Strite families as well as others, presumably includingthe Shelly family.

•Christian Wenger, 1715~ 1765, G3, (i1749.9.9) Born inSwitzerland. Arrived with his brother Michael G2 and their widowed motherHannah in Philadelphia, PA on Sept. 9, 1749 via the ship St. Andrew and settledin Rapho Township, Lancaster Co., PA. Was issued a warrant for a grant of 50acres of land in Rapho Twp., dated Oct. 19, 1750 bounded by the land of PeterSider on the west. It was surveyed May 14th, 1761 to him. The land waspatented to his son John on Dec. 27, 1764. Wenger Clan Notes number 3 page10 states that this was after the death of his father which is given as 1765. PKindicates that Christian married a Moyer. His farm is located on the north sideof Old Line Road north west of Manheim, PA. The farm cemetery is on theland. No stone has been found for Christian. Christian had died by the time ofthe revolution. His three children were young adults and chose not to liveunder the flag of the new country, choosing instead to be loyal to the crown. They, with others including the Damude and Sider families, migrated toOntario, Canada and their descendants are now found in Ontario and otherparts of Canada as well as in the US. Other Wengers that went to Canada laterare John M. (Wingert) Wenger, 1758, G121, Rev. and AbrahamWinger, 1768 1832.3.17, G172 and Henry Winger, 1776.7.161850.7.16, G175

•Martin Wenger, 1720~, G4, * Did not immigrate to the U.S. Might havebeen imprisoned. Returned to Bern, Switzerland and took his parents' home.He gave his Bible to his nephew Martin Wenger G18. This Bible is located inthe Juniata College Library, Huntington, PA

    Generation 2 :ÊÊG1ÊÊ

    Johannes (Hans) Wenger, 1705 1772.6.1-, G1, (i1748.9.16) Anna Shirk, 1705~ 1771, (i1748.9.16) dau. of Casper (Schürch) Sherk,

1657.4.9 See Wenger Clan Notes by RDW. Anna was probably born inSwitzerland. Probably Sumiswald. Married Johannes (Hans) Wenger, 17051772.6.1-, G1, (i1748.9.16) about 1725~. It is assumed that shecame to Pennsylvania with her husband and her eight children. Thomas A.Shirk, a careful researcher, has no information to support or preclude AnnaShirk being Hans's wife. A note in the papers of RDW states that the evidence isan entry in the Bible of Casper (Sherrick/Schirch) Shirk, 1710~ 1770, Rev.(i1731.12/1732.5.15) , who sold land to Hans Wenger or perhaps the bible ofCasper (Schürch) Sherk, 1657.4.9 . It is here assumed that Casper(Sherrick/Schirch) Shirk, 1710~ 1770, Rev. (i1731.12/1732.5.15) is her brotheralthough EPR2 does not give an Anna in this family. Others have indicated thatAnna was the daughter of Casper Sherrick. This presumably is Casper(Schürch) Sherk, 1657.4.9 and would support the current placementof Anna in the Sherk family. Casper (Sherrick/Schirch) Shirk, 1710~ 1770, Rev.(i1731.12/1732.5.15) has a cousin Anna (Schürch) Sherk, 1706.8.1, * dau. ofJoseph (Schürch) Sherk, 1669.10.10 the brother of Casper (Schürch) Sherk,1657.4.9 who may also be the current Anna. The current location ofthe referenced Bible is not known. It is assumed that Anna is buried in theWenger Cem. Jonestown, but no stone exists. One report gives that she diedshortly after her husband

•Stephan Wenger, 1728 1786, G11, (i1748.9.16) Born inSwitzerland. Arrived in Philadelphia with his parents and sibling on Sept.16,1748 via the Ship Patience, John Brown, Master. He was 20 years old. Settledand lived in Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Married Anna Meshe, 1726 1787 His brother Christian married her sister Elizabeth. Was a farmer andoperated a distillery. On July 3, 1767 his father sold Stephan 2 1/2 acres thatwas then willed to Stephan's son John and his wife. Stephan already had landthat adjoined his father's land. The 2 1/2 acres was sold on June 16, 1816 toJacob Wenger and his wife Anna for 125£ At one time Stephan had over 600acres. Buried in the farm cem. on Shumaker Road. His stone reads ALHIRRSTEPHAN WENGER 1786 D 8 ALT 58 IHRA We can thank WS for thisinformation. Richard Eugene Wenger, 1945.5.2, G1132123431 lived in a home on Stephan's property in 1995. •Christian Wenger, 1730 1774, G12, (i1748.9.16) Born inSwitzerland. Arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 16,1748 via the Ship Patience,John Brown, Master from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. Traveled with hisparents and sibling. He was 18 years old. Married Elizabeth Meshe, 1730~1773+ Brothers married sisters. Took the east 1/3 (on the meadowadjoining the land of John Snively) of his father's farm at Jonestown, thenLancaster Co., PA 1771/72 Bethel Twp tax roles show ChristianWingart/Wingard having 30 and then 50 acres. Later went to Franklin Co., PA.His will is dated the 23rd day of ?, 1774 (Vol. C-1 page 398) and states BethelTwp., Lancaster Co. Province of Pa as his home. Bechtel Winger gives his dateof death as 1822. An early note of NWN gives the same date. Alvin Leroy Wingergives his birth year as 1740. NWN gives his birth year as 1730 and his date ofdeath as 1774. There is a Christian Wengert who was on the Non-Associatorslist for Bethel Twp. of 1777. This is presumed to be Christian. Presumed buriedWenger Cem. Jonestown. No stone. MAF gives that a Lancaster Co. will abstractdoes not list a son Henry whereas ALW does. It is believed that the ALW Henryis Henry Winger, 1776.7.16 1850.7.16, G175 Here is Christian's will. •Judith Wenger, 1732.1.19 1811.3.5, G13, (i1748.9.16) Bornin Switzerland although JEM gives that she was perhaps born Rhenish Barana,Palatinate and JS2 gives that she was born near Zweibrücken in the Rhineland,Palatinate. Came to PA when she was 16 years old. Married Martin Funck,1732.1.30 1796.12.19, (i1750.11.3) in 1759 and lived on a farm nearLebanon near where the current Bethlehem Steel Plant is located. Judith wasMennonite. The Funck family in Europe has been identified. See EBE, p198.Martin L. Wenger autobiography states that the wedding was near QuittapahillaCreek, Lebanon Co., PA Buried in the graveyard on the Funk farm and in 1898was removed to the Ebenezer Cem. near Lebanon. Judith is the only child ofHans G1 with a known stone. Stone clearly reads (in 1998) 1732.1.19 (79-1-14)which would give a date of death of 1811.3.5. JGFK gives 1732.1.19 1812.3.12.The memorial stone at Jonestown has the dates 1732-1-13 1812-3-4 thus thereappears to be an error on that memorial. Not mentioned in her father's will.Named Jude in her husband's will

•John (Hans) Wenger, 1732 1806.8, G14, (i1748.9.16) Born in Switzerland. TWB gives his birth year as 1732. Bechtel Winger gives hisbirth year as 1731 as does ALW and as does Clarence Heise. PK gives hisbirthdate as 1731.9.23 and that he was born at Amsoldingen, Bern. MWM giveshis dates as 1732.1.19 1806.8 which would indicate that he is a twin to Judith.Arrived at the age of 16 in Philadelphia on Sept. 16,1748 via the Ship Patience,John Brown, Master from Rotterdam, last from Cowes. Married Maria, 1735~1760,, º Married Chefram (Elizabeth? Anna?) widow of Huber, 1740~ 179x,(i1764~) º A note in Roger Winger's papers indicates thatthe first four children were by Maria. John took part of his father's farm atJonestown. On July 3, 1767 he purchased 62 acres, 76 p. from his father for$373, land bounded by Hans Wenger and Stephen Wenger. The Bethel Twp.,tax rolls for 1771/72 show Jno Wingard/Wingart with 105 and then 100 acres. There is a John Wengert on the Non-Associators list for Bethel Twp. of 1777.This is presumed to be John. Died in Lebanon Co. A date of death of 1796.8 isgiven in the Wenger Clan Notes number 3 page 11. CB2 This date is incorrectas his will was dated June 16, 1800. John's date of death was reported as 1806in TWB and that is the date used on the G1 stone. BSB reports that he died1806.8. This date comes from the probate recording of his will Book C Vol. 1,page 13, Dauphin Co. (or C-13-3) JKH questioned this date as it is six years

  • after the date of his will and in that will he states that he is in ill health. Themicrofilm (roll W-13) of the original will and the proof of the will (occuring onthe reverse side of the original will) does not allow the date of proof to beread. A copy of the will and the proof date are recorded in a docket book. JVWasked the Dauphin Co. records office to examine the original will and the proofon the reverse side. It was again impossible to determine the date of proof. The date in the docket book did show clearly the date of Sept. 3, 1806.Adjacent entries in the docket book were also in the year 1806. An indexshowed a "date of letter" of April 3, 1806. It is not clear what this refered to.John is specified in his brother Christian's will as his executor. The name isthere spelled John Wingert. He left his farm to his oldest son Christian. His willgives his children as; Christian, John, Martin, Abraham, Jacob, Barbara, Franica,Elizabeth, Susanna and Anna, but no married names are given. The ordering ischronological for the sons according to known dates. His will also gives a stepdaughter Catherine Huber. No stone is known for John. The 1790 census gives2 adult males, 1 young male and 4 females. The 1800 census gives; Male; 0 1 1 00 Female; 1 0 1 0 0 There is no mention of his wife in his will. It is assumed thatshe died in the 1790s The ordering of his children is based upon known datesand a few assumptions. TWB gives Christian as the fourth child, John as thefifth, Martin as the sixth, Jacob as the eighth and Abraham as the tenth (anincorrectly identified Abraham)

•Maria Wenger, 1735 1775.4.13-, G15, (i1748.9.16) 0 Born inSwitzerland. Single. Will probated April 13, 1775. Probate at Lancaster PA in WillBook of Y-2-74. She mentions her sisters and brothers and leaves her clothes tothe female children of her sibling Judith, John and Christian.

•Henry Wenger, 1737~, G16, (i1748.9.16) Born in Switzerland. Thefamily of Henry Wenger is the least understood of the descendants of Hans andHannah. Some researchers have identified Henry's descendants but othershave attributed those descendants to Lazarus Wenger, 1715.11.15 1796.12.16,D, (i1735.8.26) the immigrant of 1735. What is known bytradition is that he married Sarah, 1750~?,, º a Senica Indian and lived near OilCity, Venango Co., PA in the N.W. part of PA. He had land on the west bank ofthe river through Oil City and later sold that land. The Martin L. Wengerbiography states that he settled at Erie PA but at the time of the Frenchrevolution removed to Canada settling on Black Creek. Not mentioned in hisfather's will. Arthur Jacob Wingard, 1888.12.20 1969.3.25, G1812561 stated that Henry was a Tory and as soon as the Revolutionary War was over hemoved to Nova Scotia, became wealthy and founded a branch of the family.Evidence for this is not available. The following is from hand written notes ofNorman Wenger Nauman; We learn from tradition that Henry Wenger leftLancaster Co., PA and went to Western PA some time before 1756. He was agood friend of the Indians and when the French and Indian War broke out hecrossed Lake Erie into Canada. After the struggle was settled he returned to theSenica Indians and married a Senica Indian by the name of Sarah and probablylived among the Indians. This would account for his name not being found inthe 1790 census list and among early histories of white settlers in Western PA.In Babcock's history of Venango Co. (Vol. 1 page 300) he relates of anunknown squatter who located on about 400 acres and made someimprovements on the West Bank of Oil Creek just above its mouth. This mayhave been Henry Winger. On the East side corn planters of the Senica Indiansowned a large tract of land which was a part of the gift made to him by thestate of PA by Act of Assembly March 1796 for services rendered after theRevolutionary War. The unknown squatter who may have been Henry Wingersold his claim to Francis and Sarah Halyday in 1803 and the Wengers probablylived among the Seneca Indians on the East side of Oil Creek. I have been toldby a few of the Winger descendants that Henry's son Joseph used to farm theland which is now Senica Street in Oil City, PA. The above from hand writtennotes of Norman Nauman. RDW gives that he lived on Halyday stream. DLWconcludes that original information is needed on Henry's children

He diedGreene Twp., Franklin Co. PA. The date of death of 1815.9.28 is visible onMartin's stone (1980s) and that is also the date in his Bible. His death date hasbeen reported as 1817.8.23, 1815.8.28, 1815.9.13, 1815.9.23, 1815.9.28 and1815.9.29. His date of birth is not on his stone, only the age of 74 years. Hisobit also has the age as 74 years. His true age at death was (73-7-26). A Rev.War marker has the date of death and age of 74. The birth date 1742.9.28 wasreported by JBW and is incorrect. DRL gives his date of death as 1815.9.23 andquotes the obit. as source. APL points out that the obit. reference is incorrect."Departed ... Thursday the 23th ult." is incorrect as Thursday fell on the 28thand one does not say the 23th but the 23rd. APL obtained a clear microfilm ofthe obit. from the Coyle Library, 102 North Main Street, Chambersburg, PA17201 and the date of Thursday the 28th is very clear. Much information existsof his offspring in America. Married Anna (Annali) Gingrich, 1743.8.191793.8.16 on June 25, 1764. Took up farming in Lebanon Co., PA.Martin left home and settled in Greene Twp., Franklin Co., purchasing land inGreene Twp.. He was the first Wenger of any spelling to settle in Franklin Co.and was the first Mennonite minister in the region. Martin married a secondtime to a Katharine or Catherine. (APL) Her birth date is 1744.6.7 as given inMartin's Bible (the date 174 is clear but the final 4 is not). The marriageoccured on April 13, 1795. Her name has been given as Katharine Funck,1744.6.7, 0 º There were no children by Katharine. RDW also gives that Martinmarried Catharine (Huber) Hoover, 1743 1793.8.16, * º (but these are thedates of Anna). Katharine's name is perhaps Huber/Hoover but it is not knownfrom the pages of the Martin Wenger Bible and it has to be said that there is nodocumentation of her last name. REW gives that Martin's two wives are buriednext to him. There is an unreadable stone next to his and his first wife's stone. He was the first supervisor of Greene Twp., (See "Along the Loudon Trail, PartII, p. 443-446, Vol. 9, "Kittochtinny Papers") On June 8, 1775 he purchased 200(warrent issued for 188 acres) acres from William Buchman, son of Andrew, ofLetterkenny Twp., Cumberland Co. for $230 adjoining lands of George Weary,Andres Frees, James Wilson and Wendle (Wintle) Sherk, 1733 1811. Owned thehemp mill at Siloam on the Conococheague Creek, Greene Twp., CumberlandValley, erected in 1781 (1791?). The mill produced flax and hemp. Passed toAbraham Gingrich Wenger, 1778.11.13 1846.10.8, G188 upon death of Martin, closed down 1821 and fell to ruins. A stone from thismill may (ca. 1970) be seen from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. (REW gives thatthe stone is just outside the yard fence of the house of H. Blaine Horst. Gonorth on Hiway 11, on east side is the John P. Douglas home and then the H.Blaine Horst home. Turn right into the lane and drive a short distance to thehouse.) Lived from age 18 to 73 near Chambersburg, PA, Greene Twp.,Cumberland (later Franklin) Co. His sons Michael, Abraham and Joseph ownedat one time nearly 1000 acres of land in different tracts including land inCanada. A photo of his home is on page 60 of DRL. See Wenger Clan Notespage 31. Martin's will was written in German (DLW believes that thisinformation came from RDW) and was dictated on Nov. 12 or 18, 1812 threeyears before his death. APL has photocopies of the will as written in Englishand dated Nov. 18, 1812. This was found on microfilm in the countycourthouse at Chambersburg. In several parts the surname is spelled Wingert. The will was copied and recorded in Will Book C, Page 243, (C512) (probatedOct. 7, 1815) at the courthouse in Chambersburg, Franklin Co. His executorswere his son Joseph and his "trusty friend" Henry Hoover (most likely HeinrichHuber, 1757/8 1833.2.3, (i1764~) ). There are letters ofAdministration in Will Book D page 43. The dates of his children come from aflyleaf in the Bible owned by Martin and now in a vault of the library of JuniataCollege at Huntingdon, PA as part of a collection amassed by Abraham Cassel. The Bible is dated 1536, appears to be bound in leather with metal hinges anda metal decoration with MW inscribed. It was the property of Martin's uncleMartin Wenger G4 who gave the Bible to Martin G18. It is not clear if hebrought it from Europe or if it was later shipped. RDW wrote a history ofMartin Wenger.
