1.INTRODUCTION

The project being presented is a twoway intercom. For making a two-wayintercom, two identical units, as shownin figure, have been used. Output of one amplifier unit goes to speaker of the other unit, and vice versa. For single-battery operation, joincorresponding supply

and groundterminals of both the units together.2. Circuit Diagram3.IC 555

The555 Timer ICis an integratedcircuit (chip) implementing a varietyof timer and multivibrator applications. The IC was designed byHans R. Camenzind in 1970 and brought to market in 1971 by

Signetics(later acquired by Philips). Theoriginal name was the SE555. As of 2003, it is estimated that 1 billion unitsare manufactured every year.Depending on the manufacturer, thestandard 555 package includes over 20transistors, 2 diodes and 15 resistorson a silicon chip installed in an 8-pinmini dual-in-line package (DIP-8).•

Monostable mode: in this mode, the 555 functions as a "one-shot". Applications includetimers, missing pulse detection, bounce free switches, touchswitches, frequency divider, capacitance measurement, pulse-width modulation (PWM) etc•

Astable - free running mode: the555 can operate

Page 7: Two Way Intercom Neha Paharia 0812051

as an oscillator.Uses include LED and lampflashers, pulse generation, logicclocks, tone generation, securityalarms, pulse positionmodulation, etc.•

Bistable mode or Schmitt trigger:the 555 can operate as a flip-flop,if the DIS pin is not connectedand

Page 8: Two Way Intercom Neha Paharia 0812051

no capacitor is used. Usesinclude bounce free latchedswitches, etc.4. IC LM386The LM386 is a power amplifier designed for use in low voltageconsumer applications. The gain isinternally set to 20 to keep external part count low, but the addition

Page 9: Two Way Intercom Neha Paharia 0812051

of anexternal resistor and capacitor between pins 1 and 8 will increase the gain toany value from 20 to 200.The inputs are ground referencedwhile the output automatically biasesto one-half the supply voltage. Thequiescent power drain is only 24miliwatts when

Page 10: Two Way Intercom Neha Paharia 0812051

operating from a 6 voltsupply, making the LM386 ideal for battery operation.5. APPLICATIONS

.CONCLUSIONS

Thus we have seen the construction, working and applications of a two wayintercom as an analog project.ACKNOWLEDGMENT
