The University rf Dayton News Release TWO UNIVERSITY WIND ENSEMBLES TO PERFORM AT UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON

DAYTON, Ohio, February 9, 1989--A concert featuring both the University of

Dayton Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Wittenberg University Wind Ensemble

will be presented at UD on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Boll

Theatre on campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The concert will be repeated on Sunday, March 5 at 4 p.m. in Weaver Chapel

on the Wittenberg campus. The second performance is also free and open to the

public.

"We expect this to be an absolutely first-rate performance," said Richard

Chenoweth, UD assistant professor of music and director of the UD ensemble.

"A wide variety of music will be performed, with all pieces considered to be

standard repertoire for advanced wind ensembles and all considered to be

masterpieces of the genre. It's good music."

The Wittenberg ensemble, under the direction of Steven Winteregg, assis-

tant professor of music, will perform "American Overture for Band" by Joseph

Wilcox Jenkins, "Canticle of the Creatures" by Francis McBeth and "Tocatta

Marziale" by Ralph Vaughn-Williams. The UD performance will include the John

Krance arrangement of "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff, "Rocky Point Holiday" by

Ron Nelson and "Incidental Suite" by Claude T. Smith. The groups will join at

the end of the program for a performance of the concert march "Coat of Arms"

by George Kenny.
