Independently certifiedWe are a proud Diamond status

member of the Heritage Environ-

mental Rating Programme and

are independently audited on an

annual basis.

WaterWe have applied water-saving

measures in our bathrooms and

halved our freshwater consump-

tion. The toilets use sea water to

flush, the taps were retrofitted

with aerators to reduce water

flow, and push-taps with stop-

pers were installed to encourage

really short hand washes.

EnergyWe have 500 solar panels on

our roof which contribute to the

energy supply to keep our animal

life support systems running 24/7

365 days of the year.

WasteRecycling bins dotted through-

out the Aquarium encourage our

visitors to recycle and we have

an on-site waste-sorting facility.

We currently recycle 50% of our

waste.

Sustainable seafoodWe only procure and serve sus-

tainable seafood in line with the

Southern African Sustainable

Seafood Initiative (SASSI) rec-

ommendations.

EducationWe educate approximately

100,000 school children per year

– 30,000 of these children are

visited by our three Outreach

Programmes.

ConservationWe are actively involved in a

number of conservation pro-

grammes, focusing on turtles,

seals, penguins, and sharks. Our

flagship conservation initiative

is the turtle rescue, rehabilitation

and release programme – over

400 sick and/or injured turtles

have been treated in our facility

and released back into the wild.
