When we ventured out to create Twirl Weddings, we knew we wanted to achieve two objectives: to create a great website that used our combined expertise and experience in the world of luxury weddings and for it to have a super local focus so that it could appeal to real brides planning a wedding in their area. Simple enough, right? But content that is updated daily is light, quick, vetted but more off-the-cuff. The Twirl List and our site franchises provide great vendors and city locales, but we knew our brides would need more. More inspiration, more detail, more of the more.

So we conceived The Book. The Book is what we would want in a bridal magazine, but digital. You can flip through the pages for inspiration or you can spend an hour or two reading it cover to cover just like a traditional magazine. The best part is that each page is clickable. Like that gown in our fashion feature Where to Wear? Click on it and it will take you to the designer. Need more details on the venue we perfectly paired with it? A click will take you to their site for the full 411. A full dose of inspiration, with a helping of info to back it up. The Book allows us to be more focused. This, our first issue, is The Engagement Issue. We figured what better way for us to kick off Twirl than by celebrating engagements – yours and ours. We are hoping that we will be together every step of the way. So share with us as we are with you. Let us know what you think of The Book through social media using #TwirlEngagement.

There's nothing that gets us more excited than clicking through photos from real weddings, engagement parties, bridal showers and other pre- and post-wedding parties. The details, the decor, and of course the dress are what we love seeing and sharing!

CHRISTIAN OTH, CHRISTIAN OTH STUDIO When you look at one of Christian Oth’s photos, you can absorb the emotion of an entire wedding from a single image. So when searching for the perfect shot for our first cover, we knew exactly who to go to. Christian and his top notch roster of photographers at Christian Oth Studio know every venue and picturesque spot in New York City, so whether it’s for your wedding or your engagement portraits (see Christian’s engagement photo tips on page 26), you will be in very good hands. Christian opened the studio in 2005 and countless weddings around the world and professional accolades later, including being named one of the ten best wedding photographers in the world by American Photo, he continues to redefine the art of wedding photography.

KELLY ASHWORTH, KELLY ASHWORTH DESIGN We have genius designer Kelly Ashworth to thank for the layout of both The Book and TwirlWeddings.com. A graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Advertising, Kelly worked at WB Doner and several boutique agencies before opening Kelly Ashworth Design in 2004. In addition to branding, web design and wedding stationery projects, Kelly enjoys spending days with her two daughters, date nights with her husband, and traveling the world.

ALLAN ZEPEDA, ALLAN ZEPEDA PHOTOGRAPHY We have Allan Zepeda to thank for our fab editor's letter photo, and the Feast for the Senses engagement party on page 46. Allan, while based in New York and San Francisco, has shot weddings across the country and around the globe, including Europe, the Caribbean and Central America. We love the way he captures the emotions of the day, along with the romance, and of course all the details, but we’re not the only ones. Last year Allan shot the wedding of Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita and his work is routinely featured in all of our favorite bridal mags. When he’s not shooting a wedding, chances are Allan is in an exotic location or a five star restaurant celebrating with friends. The best way to keep track of him? Follow his Instagram feed!

KRISTEN HARTLEY This gal's passion for food is eclipsed only by her sense of humor. Because if she wasn't bitter, she'd have no taste at all! After almost 17 years writing and producing lifestyle content for tv, commercials and web she's learned a little and eaten a lot. Kristen has had the pleasure of featuring top chefs such as Eric Rippert, Gavin Kaysen, Marc Forgione, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Michele Richard, and Dan Kluger. In addition to her passion for all things culinary, she's produced for brands such as Joanthan Adler, American Express, Macy's, and L'Oréal. In her nonexistent spare time, she's traded in cooking elaborate meals and going to restaurant openings for trying out new recipes on her favorite and harshest critic: her 17-month-old son.

Too busy or overwhelmed to plan your own wedding? Interview and hire a wedding planner to guide you through the process, and handle mom when she's stressing you out.

Is a destination wedding in the cards? Fly off to wherever you wish to wed and find out if the locale is right for you, your guests, and any senior relatives who must attend. (Can granny make the long flight? Will the grounds accommodate grandpa's wheelchair?)

Pick a date, book a place, and then make bridal salon appointments to shop for the one. Get the most out of the day with one of Twirl New York's curated shopping guides.

To celebrate their engagement, friend’s of the couple hosted an engagement party at their home in Sagaponack. Working with their event planner and designer, Sofia Crokos, the open field was decked out with a white tent and furniture accented with bright orange, bold blues and shimmering gold details. “We wanted to incorporate elaborate, exotic textures juxtaposed against a lush greenery environment,” Sofia explains. Guests could lounge under the starry sky or the sparkling crystal chandeliers and gold and mirrored stars adorning the tent’s draped ceiling. Comfy white lounges were set up in the tent and the surrounding area with tangerine pillows for guests to mix and mingle, and toast to the future newlyweds.

You want that “cool” downtown setting for all of your friends. Something that feels like the places you hang out at after work or on Saturday nights. Your parents, and his, are looking for a more “uptown” location. A venue that they feel comfortable inviting their friends to, where they won’t feel old and the address isn’t scary.

For Lexi and Jordan, and their wedding and event designer Lindsay Landman, the ideal venue to satisfy everyone was The Roof at the Viceroy New York on West 57th Street. Offering an outdoor terrace with views of Central Park and a luxe lounge designed by the firm Roman and Williams, everyone was happy.

Lindsay created a palette of black, white and gold to complement the venue’s wood and leather decor, setting the scene for a warm and inviting space. The brown leather couches were accented with pillows in the shades of the party’s palette to give the feel of a luxe home interior.

For the menu, guests dined on various bite-sized apps, including hay-aged pecorino toast with ricotta and truffle honey, crab croquettes with curry mayo, and for dessert mini-ice cream sundaes - a favorite of the groom and his dad. Love-themed cocktails were served up as the party’s signature drinks.

As guests left at the end of the night, they received a box of East Coast/West Coast cupcakes from Sprinkles and Magnolia Bakery, a sweet nod to the bride's home state of California and the couple's new hometown.
