PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

Our Lady of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Parish is a people of living faith rooted in the Gospel,

centered on the Eucharist and led by the Holy Spirit.

We are inspired by the example of Mary to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by ministering to all.

Annunciation Parish Website: www.annunciationparishabq.org

From the Pastor

FROM THE PASTOR SEPT. 1, 2013 THAT MAN IS YOU That Man is You (TMIY) is a Catholic Men’s ministry transforming single, married, young and not so young men in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and across the United States. TMIY was created by Steve Bollman in Houston, Texas in 2004. Steve was a successful business-man who experienced a significant conversion and call from God to create a men’s forma-tion program. The meetings typically consist of fellowship over a light meal (here an early-morning breakfast), a 30-minute video on the day’s theme, small group discussion for 30 minutes, intercessions and a closing prayer. TMIY com-bines the best scientific research, the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of men who are “fully alive”. Each year there are 13 Fall and 13 Spring sessions in over 400 parishes, in more than 40 states, with more than 15,000 men participating. There are no membership fees, although donations are welcome. All men are welcome to meet here in the Annunciation gym beginning Saturday, Sept. 21st from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. Register in ad-vance online at www.thatmanisyou.org or write [email protected]. WOMEN’S GUILD MEMBERSHIP Please consider joining the Annunciation Women’s Guild as they serve the parish in so many ways-from preparing altar linens, to hosting bereavement meals and parish receptions and much more. The membership brunch will be this coming Saturday, Sept. 7th from 10 a.m. to noon. Call Mary Agnes at 299-9111 for more information. RESPECT LIFE NEWS

Abby Johnson is a former Planned Parenthood Director who ended up assisting a doctor in a 13-week ultra-sound guided abortion. During that procedure, she experienced first hand the horrors of abortion and saw with her own eyes what she had been supporting for so many years. Abby left the industry and has been fighting to save the unborn ever since. Abby’s new ministry has financially supported 79 nurses, doctors and medical staff to get out of the abortion business and move on to serve life. Come

listen to Abby speak at the UNM Student Union Building Ballroom on Thursday, Sept. 5th at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and you will need to make time to find parking. Abby will be signing copies of her book Unplanned. Come and bring a friend! ANNUNCIATION SCHOOL’S FALL BENEFIT Annunciation Catholic School will be hosting its 5th Annual Fall Benefit on Friday, Sept. 27th at the Tamaya Resort Cottonwood Pavilion. If you are interested in joining us for “An Evening in Monte Carlo” please call the office at 299-6783 for tickets. All proceeds will benefit the Annunciation School Technology program. Tickets for the multi-prize raf-fle drawing will be sold for $5.00 each after all the Masses this weekend and again on the weekend of Sept. 21-22. Please help support our students. STATEWIDE PRAYER SUMMIT There will be a Statewide Prayer Summit at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe on Friday, Sept. 6th begin-ning at 8:30 a.m. Ministry leaders, marketplace leaders, intercessors and youth are invited to pray with our Governor Susanna Martinez for the needs of the State of New Mexico. Please join in prayer there or from wherever you are that we might indeed become more and more a land with godly values. SEMINARIAN SUPPORT COLLECTION Next weekend, Sept. 7-8, we will take up our annual second collection for the Seminarians of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. The good news is that we have over 40 seminarians studying for Santa Fe, the largest number in many years! Please be generous so that we can educate these men for the priesthood.

PARISH LIFE & PASTORAL OUTREACH

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

Sr. Cristina Ovejera, FdCC, Director Mary Agnes Sain, Secretary 299-9111 [email protected]

► Women’s Guild Membership Breakfast This annual gathering will be this coming Saturday,

Sept. 7. There will be a carpool leaving the church parking lot at 9:45AM. Please call Mary Agnes,

299-9111, for direction to Cree Ann Morris’ house. Thank you.

► Visitation Ministry is one of our parish’s pastoral outreach to residents of nursing homes and assisted living fa-

cilities. The members are volunteer pastoral workers who are commissioned by our Pastor on

behalf of Annunciation faith community. They provide spiritual companionship and social visits

to those who are seldom visited by family or friends. The volunteers meet with Sr. Cristina

once every quarter, for sharing, training, continuing support, prayer, reflection, and peer sup-

port. They also socialize at the end of the meeting. We welcome interested parishioners in our

meetings.

► Little Rock Sacred Scripture Study (LRSS) “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” (St. Jerome) Let the

Word of God influence your busy life! LRSS can lead you and our parish to: Fuller understanding

of the Bible; richer appreciation of the faith tradition of the Church; deeper, more personal rela-

tionship with God; stronger sense of family faith and prayer; fuller experience of Christian com-

munity. This Scripture study combines personal Bible reading and study, small group faith shar-

ing, lecture and prayer. Come join us and learn to make the real connection between your faith

and your everyday life. The topic is “The Spirituality of the Gospels”. LRSS here in Annunciation is ably facili-

tated by Rose Fernandez. You may still register with Mary Agnes, to have the study guides. The session begins

next Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 9:30AM in St. Bakhita Hall.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Renee Pagan – Coordinator

The RCIA ministry recognizes that its work is with the Holy Spirit, who sends the inquirers to us, to

welcome them, to journey with them in their faith journey. Our mission is to introduce them to Je-

sus, His Word, His paschal mystery, and His mission, which are to be continued in their lives as His disciples. If you

or someone you know wants to begin the RCIA process, please call Sr. Cristina at 299-9111.

Reflection: “Faith-knowledge, because it is born of God’s covenantal love, is knowledge which lights up a path in

history. That is why, in the Bible, truth and fidelity go together; the true God is the God of fidelity who keeps his

promises and makes possible, in time, a deeper understanding of his plan. Faith-knowledge sheds light not only on

the destiny of one particular people, but the entire history of the created world, from its origins to its consumma-

tion.” -Pope Francis in his Encyclical Letter “Lumen Fidei”

THIS WEEK’S MEETINGS/ACTIVITIES

We are making a Parish History DVD to be shown at the Celebration. If you see a photographer taking

pictures during Mass or at other times around the parish property we ask for your cooperation and patience during this stage of the DVD process. You might even be in the photographs that they are taking for the DVD!
