Take 60 seconds to read this story. It will give you

time to settle your brain, gather your thoughts,

calm down and start your week off on a positive

note.

POTATO CHIPS

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a

long trip to where God lived, so he packed his

suitcase with a bag of potato chips and a six-pack

of root beer and started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old man. He

was sitting in the park, just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat

down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to

take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old man

looked hungry, so he offered him some chips. He gratefully

accepted them and smiled at him.

His smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so

he offered him a root beer. Again, he smiled at him. The boy

was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling,

but they never said a word.

As twilight approached, the boy realized how tired he was and

he got up to leave; but before he had gone more than a few

steps, he turned around, ran back to the old man, and gave him

a hug. He gave him his biggest smile ever.

My deepest thanks to all parishioners of St. Timothy parish for all you do to increase charity and to take on

sacrifice.

Fr. Ed

When the boy opened the door to his own

house a short time later, his mother was

surprised by the look of joy on his face. She

asked him, "What did you do today that made

you so happy?"

He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before

his mother could respond, added, "You know

what? He's got the most beautiful smile I've

ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the old man, also radiant with joy, returned to his

home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face

and he asked, "Dad, what did you do today that made you so

happy?"

He replied "I ate potato chips in the park with God." However,

before his son responded, he added, "You know, he's much

younger than I expected."

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind

word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act

of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime!

Embrace all equally!

Have lunch with God.......bring chips.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL FOOD PANTRY

BACKPACK PROGRAM

The 2016/2017 school year began August 10 and our Backpack

Program is underway. Last year we delivered

4,730 food packets to the Fruitland Park

Elementary School. The children who received the

weekend food packets were those the school

system identified as in need of additional nutrition.

This program is made possible and is successful due to the many

generous contributions of both financial support and food items

from parishioners and by the many volunteers who help organize,

pack, and deliver the packets to the school.

You may help again this year by making a monetary contribution

(put check payable to St. Vincent de Paul Society in an envelope

marked “backpack program” and drop it in the collection basket).

Monetary contributions are most helpful as they allow us to

purchase backpack items in bulk. If you would prefer donating

food items, we are always in need of single serve size

applesauce, fruit cups, vienna sausage, and cereal.

Thanks you and God Bless You for your generosity.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

St. Timothy is currently in need of volunteers

to train as of Eucharistic Ministers and

Ushers for all Masses.

Liturgical guidelines note: In every celebration of the

Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of

Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent

and orderly manner.

Please pray over this request for volunteers.

If you are available to assist in either of these capacities, please

contact Pat Schaefer, Director of Volunteers, in the Church Office

(352) 753-0989.

WOMEN’S GUILD

Dear Guild Members,

We have been working very hard to have superior

programs for you. We have run into a slight problem.

The social hall is not available. We looked into

alternative sites for our meetings and craft fair.

Programs had to be changed and the craft fair is

cancelled for this year.

September, October, and November meetings are

cancelled. We have tried very hard to find places that would and

could accommodate us. Unfortunately there were none. Area

churches, community halls, recreation centers were contacted, but

to no avail.

We did come up with a plan and it is exciting and wonderful.

December we will meet at Katie Belle’s for a Gala Christmas

Experience. Our raffle drawing will be held at that time. More

information is coming.

January has the horse races. Horses are on loan from celebrities

such as Elvis, Nat King Cole, The Rat Pack, and Mr. Roarke. Bring

dollar bills if you would like to participate. Combine that with pizza

and salad, what more could you ask for.

February’s meeting will be a favorite. It’s a decadent pot luck

dessert with a sparkling beverage and card bingo.

March’s program will feature a luncheon catered by Chicken Salad

Chick with a Ukulele sing-a-long. Bring a can of food for one of our

local food pantries. Cost is $5/m, $10/nm.

April’s Baby Shower is for Love Inc. We are featuring cupcakes

and ice cream and a favorite- reverse card bingo.

May’s Crowning of the Blessed Mother, luncheon, and Installation

of Officers will bring the year to a close. Our luncheon will be

catered by Pasta Faire. Cost is $10/Member, $15/Non-Member.

Thank you for your continued understanding, support and patience.

We look forward to see you in December at Katie Belle’s.

Peace my friends.

CATHOLICS CARE. CATHOLICS VOTE. LEARN ABOUT THE ISSUES.

In their statement on Forming Consciences for

Faithful Citizenship, the U.S. Catholic bishops lift up

various issues of different moral weight and urgency.

Some issues they mention include: addressing

abortion, euthanasia, the use of the death penalty

and imprudent resort to war; protecting the fundamental

understanding of marriage as the life-long and faithful union of

one man and one woman; achieving comprehensive immigration

reform; caring for our common home; helping families and

children overcome poverty; providing healthcare while respecting

human life, human dignity and religious freedom; and

establishing and complying with moral limits on the use of military

force. Learn more about these issues and others at

FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP PRAY FOR ELECTION

O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord, not

only of individuals, but of nations and

governments. We thank you for the privilege of

being able to organize ourselves politically and of

knowing that political loyalty does not have to

mean disloyalty to you.

We thank you for your law, which our founding fathers

acknowledged and recognized as higher than any human law.

We thank you for the opportunity that this election year puts

before us, to exercise our solemn duty not only to vote, but to

influence countless others to vote, and to vote correctly.

Lord, we pray that your people may be awakened. Let them

realize that while politics is not their salvation, their response to

you requires that they be politically active. Awaken your people

to know that they are not called to be a sect fleeing the world but

rather a community of faith renewing the world.

Awaken them that the same hands lifted up to you in prayer are

the hands that pull the lever in the voting booth; that the same

eyes that read your word are the eyes that read the names on

the ballot, and that they do not cease to be Christians when they

enter the voting booth.

Awaken your people to a commitment to justice, to the sanctity

of marriage and the family, to the dignity of each individual

human life, and to the truth that human rights begin when human

lives begin, and not one moment later.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC? MISSING SACRAMENTS?

Each year a process called RCIA—the

Rite of Christian Initiation—offers an

opportunity for people who are

unbaptized (not Christians) or those who

are Protestants to become Catholic. It

also allows baptized Catholics who missed their first communion

and/or their confirmation to complete their sacraments of

initiation. If you or anyone you know might be interested in the

RCIA process, please contact David at

[email protected], 352-753-0989.

SPONSORS FOR RCIA

Adults who are becoming Catholics need Godparents to walk

this journey with them. In the RCIA process, Godparents are

called “sponsors”. If you went through RCIA yourself or have

been a sponsor in the past, please pray to see if God is calling

you to serve in this role at. St. Timothy. If you are interested and

would like to know the specifics, please contact David at

[email protected], 352-753-0989.

RCIA TEAM

As we prepare for next year’s RCIA process, we are speaking

with parishioners who might be interested in joining the team. If

you served as an RCIA team member either here or in another

parish in the past, and you are interested in ministering in this

capacity again, please contact David at

[email protected], 352-753-0989.

YEAR OF MERCY PILGRIMAGE—LAST CHANCE, OCTOBER 20

BASILICA OF THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF MARY,

QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE, O

The October 6 bus trip is now full. However, another bus trip is

scheduled for October 20. Contact Allen for

details at: [email protected] or 352-751-

0294.

Pope Francis has given us an extraordinary year to receive

God's forgiveness for our sins and all due punishment

(purification) in purgatory. The Legion of Mary recently took this

pilgrimage and said they had powerful experiences of God’s love

and forgiveness. Pilgrimages are filled with prayer, confession,

communion, and the journey through the Holy Door.
