LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

At the beginning of this Letter to the Christians in

Thessalonica, a city in northern Greece (modern-day

Macedonia), St Paul uses a very interesting and very

important phrase. He praises the Thessalonians for their

"endurance in hope." This is not a popular phrase

nowadays. And yet, St Paul puts it right up there with the

"work of faith" and the "labor of love" as a key

characteristic of Christian life. Thessalonica was the

second city in Europe where Paul had a chance to preach

the Gospel. His preaching was well-received by many,

and a local Christian church was founded there. But after

a few weeks, some of the local leaders became so jealous

of Paul's success that a violent mob raised a city-wide

demonstration against him. Paul's new converts had to

sneak him out of the city at night to bring him to safety.

After he left, the Christians there continued to suffer

persecution and hardship in the face of the old guard

who felt threatened by the new religion. This is why

"endurance" was so important for them: they were

constantly being tempted to go back to their old ways,

the easier and more comfortable ways.

We are also constantly facing this temptation. Being a

faithful Catholic in a society full of anti-Catholic and anti-

Christian influences, demands non-stop effort and

vigilance. What will enable us to keep up our effort? The

same thing that enabled the Thessalonians to keep up

theirs: hope. The Thessalonians firmly trusted in Christ's

promise that God himself would always walk beside

them, guiding and protecting them on their journey to

the abundant and eternal life that only Christ can give.

Our great task in life is to endure, to persevere. And we

can do that, if we keep our hope healthy.

My God bless you.

Fr. Dan

seguro.

GETTING YOUR STEWARDSHIP DUCKS IN A ROW….. There are certain “givens” about parish stewardship that help place our parish in the proper frame of mind for successfully tackling total stewardship! What are they? The traditional three “T’s”: Time, Talent and Treasure sure should be acknowledged, but the parish should focus its energies on Time and Talent. The models which do this seem to have the most “staying power.” A parish must be a welcoming hospitable community which stresses parishioner involvement. Stewardship of treasure will follow naturally from this. An effective, lasting stewardship conversion process must be flexible and “living.” Parishes have different personalities and the conversion process must allow for individual parish differences. Each parish must set its own course, establish its ow priorities and designate its own benchmarks.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! THANKSGIVING IS FAST

APPROACHING…Parishioners Delinda Gonzalez & Linda

Garcia with the support of St. Jerome School & the St. Jerome Community will be hosting their 6th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for those in need on Thursday, November 23rd in the Father Raye Center from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM and are asking for donations. RESPECT LIFE: There are times we may doubt the value of our own lives or falter at the thought of welcoming and embracing the life of another. But reflecting on the healed wounds of the Risen Christ, we can see that even our most difficult trials can be the places where God manifests his victory. He makes all things beautiful. He makes all things new. He is the God of redemption. - USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities

WORLD MISSION / PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22nd PLEASE BE GENEROUS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

“Enable the missionary heart of Christian communities to join in prayer, testimony of life and communion of goods, in responding to the vast and pressing needs of evangelization” – Pope Francis

OCT. 29th - CELEBRATE PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY! - This

is the day set aside this year to celebrate and extend our thanks and prayers to our priests who serve St. Jerome community in so many ways. We invite you to give our priests a prayer, A Mass, a Holy Hour, a Rosary, a spiritual bouquet, a simple note or a smile to assure them of our loving care and gratitude for their presence in our lives will go a long way to serve the greater good of our wonderful and growing St. Jerome Catholic Church. The reasons for this celebration should be obvious. The number of priests per Catholic has declined over the past 40 years. This makes it more difficult for individual parishioners to establish a close relationship with any one particular priest. PLEASE PRAY FOR VOCATIONS AND FOR ALL PRIESTS! Let’s celebrate this special day, in praying for our priests, in praising God for their courage and their generosity. Let’s show

our appreciation for Fr. Dan, Fr. Mike and Fr. David.

Celebración Eucarística, nuestras oraciones y nuestro generoso aporte

necesitados.

Pornography is a nasty word most of us don’t like to talk about. It’s a plague of the worst kind. This is a silent plague that

destroys families. WHITE RIBBON AGAINST

PORNOGRAPHY is one of the many service projects of

Catholic Daughters Court Ave Maria #2001 here at St. Jerome. This program is an opportunity for all of us to rally for a safe community and a strong country. This little white ribbon is a symbol of decency. This white ribbon increased awareness of pornography addiction. Many people, teens and children, are not aware of the quickness of pornography addiction. Wear or display a white ribbon during WRAP Week and all year long. White ribbons will be passed out Saturday, October 28th , and Sunday, October 29th .

NOTICE - All meeting rooms and other facilities at St. Jerome are scheduled on a basis of trust and the assumption that the group

reserving the space will actually meet as scheduled. If your group or ministry cannot or does not use the facility as scheduled, please call the office as soon as possible prior to the event and cancel your reservation so other groups may use the space. Thank you. Also, it is your group’s responsibility to clean up and take all trash to the trash bins.
