Volume 20 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME June 21, 2020

Subject: Reopening Update for MARY, MOTHER OF DIVINE GRACE PARISH Hello Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Family, As our parish continues to move forward with reopening efforts in accordance with the plan announced by Cardinal Cupich and the bishops of Illinois, as well as the governor’s Restore Illinois plan, I want to provide you with an update on our progress and priorities. Our parish is approved to celebrate Baptisms, Reconciliation, weddings and funerals for 10 or less at this time. Our staff and team of volunteers have been working hard to keep everyone’s well-being, both physical and spiritual, the foremost priority in all that we do. It has been wonderful to see so many people stepping forward to put their time and energy toward keeping our Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Family strong during this time. We are working on the necessary steps to resume Masses. We appreciate your patience and understanding and encourage you to continue worshipping with us online at www.marymotherofdivinegrace.org. Also, please know of the many ways to engage in prayer and grow in discipleship with us by visiting our website. Your Help is Needed The Reopening Co-leadership Team and our Volunteer Captains need additional people to step forward and serve in various capacities so that our community may begin to pray, celebrate and worship together. In order to progress along our parish reopening plan, our Set-up, Greeting and Cleaning Teams need folks who can offer a small amount of time during the week or on weekends. Please prayerfully consider lending your time to this important ministry and contact Karen Luciano at [email protected] to note your willingness to help. Our team will ensure that you are properly trained and can serve with your safety as priority #1. Additionally, our parish family needs your financial support. As a community of believers, we can only sustain our ministries and outreach with your generosity and regular contributions. God will work something new from the challenges we are currently facing. It is clear to me the need for community – and within that word, unity – is being expressed in powerful ways. It is my fervent hope that we, as disciples of Jesus Christ, will embrace this moment to begin witness to our faith in new ways, to share with one another our stories of faith and invite others into an encounter with the Risen Lord. May God grant you His peace during this difficult time and may He manifest His love and presence to you in abundant ways. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Marcin Szczypula Pastor Mary, Mother of Divine Grace Parish

WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES

Sunday: Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time; Father’s Day Monday: St. Paulinus of Nola; Ss. John Fisher and Thomas More Wednesday: The Nativity of St. John the Baptist Saturday: St. Cyril of Alexandria; Blessed Virgin Mary

Saint John the Baptist was born in the late first century BC somewhere in Judea. His birth was nothing less than miraculous because his mother, Elizabeth, was too old to bear children. The Angel Gabriel visited Elizabeth and her husband, Zechariah, and gave them the good news that they would have a son and that they are to name him John. Zachariah did not believe this was possible and for this lack of faith he was rendered mute. He only spoke again when his son was born and named John, all in fulfillment of God's will. When Mary visited Elizabeth while she was still pregnant with John the Baptist, John leaped in her womb. Elizabeth then realized that Mary was pregnant with Jesus, the Son of God.

A FATHER’S DAY BLESSING Blessed are You, Lord and Father of All Life, who has given to us the gift of the fathers gathered here.

Today, we honor them, and we thank You for the numerous good things that are ours because of them.

Their love for us has been a sign of Your divine affection and a sharing in Your holy love.

Their continuous concern for our needs and welfare is a mirror of Your holy providence. And so, as we honor them, we praise You, Father of All Peoples.

Bless them this day with Your strength and holy power that they may continue to be a sign of You, our God, and a priestly parent to our families.

May we who have the honor of bearing their family names do so with great pride.

May we, the members of their family, assist them in their holy duties as a parent with our respect, our obedience and our deep affection.

Bless them, Lord, with happiness and good health, with peace and with good fortune, so that they who has shared of their very lives may live forever with You, his God and heavenly Father.

This blessing and all graces we pray, descend upon the fathers of our families: in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

(from Edward Hayes, Prayers for the Domestic Church)

June 21 TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

We have been spoiled lately, celebrating the solemnities of Pentecost, the Holy Trinity, and the Body and Blood of Christ and hearing readings that reflect their joy. Today we are plunged back into the Sundays in Ordinary Time, where we are swiftly reminded that life can be difficult and even dangerous, leaving us in need of reassurance and comfort. Jeremiah faced opposition all around; even his friends had turned on him. Both Paul and the church in Rome were in danger of persecution. Jesus was about to send his disciples out to the villages where he knows they will encounter rejection. Yet they all find courage in God. Jeremiah assures himself “But the Lord is with me, like a mighty champion” (Jeremiah 20:11). Paul writes that as terrible and pervasive as sin is, God’s grace and Jesus’ salvific act overflow for the multitudes. Finally, Jesus comforts his disciples, telling them that if God knows and cares for even the tiniest sparrow (the least expensive living thing in the market), they should have nothing to fear. Therefore, no matter how overwhelming our fears are, we can still sing out, “Lord, in your great love, answer me,” confident that our pleas are heard (Psalm 69:14c).

What fears can you place in God’s hands, assured of God’s overflowing care?

FIRST READING A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah 20:10-13

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Psalm 69:8-10,14,17,33-35

R/. Lord, in your great love, answer me.

For your sake I bear insult, / and shame covers my face. I have become an outcast to my brothers, a stranger to my mother’s children, because zeal for your house consumes me, / and the insults of those who blaspheme you fall upon me. R/.

I pray to you, O Lord, / for the time of your favor, O God! In your great kindness answer me / with your constant help. Answer me, O Lord, for bounteous is your kindness; / in your great mercy turn toward me. R/

“See you lowly ones, and be glad; / you who seek God, may your hearts revive! For the Lord hears the poor, / and his own who are in bonds he spurns not. Let the heavens and the earth praise him, / the seas and whatever moves in them!” R/. SECOND READING

A Reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans Romans 5:12-15

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: R/. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord; / and you also will testify. R/. GOSPEL The Lord be with you. And with your spirit.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew Matthew 10:26-33 Glory to you, O Lord.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
