“Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting.”-Twitter

Or think of Twitter as an active business mixer that you can jump in and out of any time…day or night

*Who I am

@President of Deerfield Valley Sitters, LLC. I manage a team of sitters who watches the kids, so parents can enjoy some personal time

@My passion is working as a social media consultant, a personal agent to small businesses for Facebook business pages and Twitter success

3 reasons why you should tweet

1. You can learn about must-read books, breaking news, and restaurants because the information is coming from real people who care enough to tweet about it.

It’s authentic and informative.

Page 13: Tweet tweet #nwn

3 Reasons why you should tweet

2. It’s best to invest about thirty minutes per day, although I’m guilty of doing scans throughout the day and retweeting information to my followers

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

Page 14: Tweet tweet #nwn

3 Reasons why you should tweet

3. It’s a blast! Twitter is entertaining and engaging with people local and around the world. Twitter is like a room full of people sitting in a large circle.

*First step to signing up: What should your user name be?

1. Try the name of your business, if you can’t get your whole business name like the problem I ran into with Deerfield Valley Sitters then

Page 16: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*First step to signing up: What should your user name be?

2. shorten the name: @DeerfieldValley (Deerfield Valley Sitters) or

@VTsNEk (Northeast Kingdom)

Page 17: Tweet tweet #nwn

*First step to signing up: What should your user name be?

If you already have a user name, reflect if your Twitter name brands with your business name

3. Use your personal name if you represent your business or your business name. Try to keep everything co-branded

Try not to use the _ underscore (it’s hard for your prospects to remember where the _ underscores goes. Use numbers instead

Page 18: Tweet tweet #nwn

*We’re going to dive into Twitter Lingo

I’m not going to quiz you after the presentation

Page 19: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo:

Tweet: A public message is 140 letters max.

Page 20: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo:

Twitter stream: on your home page it shows who you are following

Page 21: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo:

*Follow: How to follow someone

Page 22: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo:

@ [Sign] is at the beginning of every name and it’s how to interact with fellow twitter’ers

Page 23: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: How to Email (DM)

*A direct message or known as DM is similar to email. A DM is when you send a specific user a private message that nobody can see except the receiver.

*When you send a DM that user will be notified they have received a message.

Page 24: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo:

*One catch with a DM the person has to be following you – you can’t send DM’s to anyone you choose they have to first want to engage with you by following your tweets.

Page 25: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: Direct Messages (DM)What my inbox looks like:

Page 26: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: Hashtag*A Hashtag is the # symbol for tweeters to find content

quickly and acts as a conversation tool

Page 27: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: Hashtag #

*Real examples of Hashtags (#) in tweets:

Page 28: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: Retweet (RT)

*RT is a very popular feature that makes Twitter’s platform a community driven instrument.

*If you see a tweet that someone has posted and you think your audience would benefit from reading that tweet.

Page 29: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*Twitter Lingo: Retweet (RT)

*Hit the retweet button, be sure and keep the original person @reply.

Page 30: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*To insure people can RT your tweets, you’ll need to do a tiny math formula.

You’ll count the number of characters of your @name and 3 spaces for RT with an empty space

*Formula: @DeerfieldValley (16) + RT (3) = 19 @EmilySusan007 (14) + RT (3) = 17

Page 31: Tweet tweet #nwn

www.EmilySusan007.com @EmilySusan007 Your Personal Agent for Success on Social Media

*To insure people can RT your tweets, you’ll need to do a tiny math formula.

Then take the number and subtract 140 (because that’s the magic number of letters with Twitter)

@DeerfieldValley (16) + RT (3) = 19 – 140 = 121 letters to form my Tweets

@EmilySusan007 (14) + RT (3) = 17 – 140= 123 letters to form my Tweets
