muddy, but the benefits of participating were remarkable. Riders would complete multiple laps, and the winner was the one who completed the most laps in the allotted time, which

WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE:How Do You Defend Yourself Against

an Attacker Two and a Half Times Stronger Than You?

With an assault every 17 seconds in the United States - many of these targeting female victims -

there has never been a greater need for women to learn self defense.

One of the problems within the self defense world is that there is often no

distinction when it comes to programs for men and self defense for women. And yet, the differences between the two don’t stop at gender.

In this article, we’ll be exploring the size difference between men and women, and why this must play an im-portant role in how a program is struc-tured, and what you should be learning in an effective women’s self-defense course. In fact, this one factor is so important, that everything else that we could talk about is centered right here.

So, let’s examine something that’s of vital importance if you’re to survive an attack on the street, in your home, or anywhere else. And it’s this:

Scientifically-speaking, if you were to stand a man and woman, side-by-side, and they were, all things consid-ered:

• the same Height • same Weight • same Build, and...

• the same Fitness level... The man would still be TWO AND A

HALF TIMES STRONGER THAN THE WOMAN!

Please understand this is not my opinion. Nor is it coming from any po-sition of bias or male chauvinism. It’s scientific fact.

It’s the way we’re designed – as hu-man beings.

And, while there are exceptions in the world, suffice it to say that anything you do to defend yourself against a male attacker, must take into account that you will be doing so from a posi-tion of relative weakness - not superior strength.

This means the best situation you, as a woman, can hope for is that you and he will be the same size. So... here are a few strategies and ideas to even the odds and give you a better advantage.

• 1) Learn to use strategic posi-tioning. Use things like timing, distancing, and angling to out-maneuver your assailant. If he can’t grab, hit, or otherwise get at you, he can’t hurt you!

• 2) Use your strong points against his weak points. Don’t try to hit a man’s broader muscles and skeletal frame like a man would. You’re not built for it. Learn to use things like your thumb, your “door-knocking” knuckles, and go after weaker targets on him like his throat, groin, eyes, or knees.

• 3) Carry and learn to use what I call, “Stra-tegic Advantage Multipli-ers” (SAMs). By employ-ing small items like the Kubotan, self defense keychain, keys them-selves, pepper spray, hair brush or cell phone, you can effectively re-duce or neutralize his strength and size advan-tages.

Remember - learning self defense for women is unlike anything else. If you get it wrong, you will pay the price. And that price could be more than you can live with!

the choice for short term rehabilitation care. As we enter 2014 skilled nursing facilities are becom-ing more sophisti-cated with the type of care guests are receiving. No longer are you being treated by nursing staff and physicians but entire team of licensed in-dividuals specializ-ing in a specific area of treatment. It can seem overwhelming at times to have so many individuals tak-ing care of someone. The following are just a few examples of therapists that you are likely to encounter.

A Physical Thera-pist (PTs) will meet with an individual reg-ularly to help restore mobility and strength

of patients. Through exercises, massage and equipment, a PT can alleviate pain and restore function-ing. They also teach families and patients how to transfer from beds, chairs, cars and toilets.

An Occupational Therapists (OTs) help patients perform the activities of daily liv-ing such as eating, bathing, using the bathroom, cooking, dressing and do-ing basic household chores. They can as-sess the home and identify ways to make living at home easier and safer. They also are trained on how to show patients how to use their assistive devices to help with their daily functioning.

Respiratory Thera-pists (RTs) evaluate,

treat and care for pa-tients with breathing diseases. They can administer oxygen therapies, manage mechanical ventila-tion and administer breathing treatments to help patients breath better.

Speech and Lan-guage Therapists help restore speech communication and though processes.

They also can help with breathing, swal-lowing and eating.

Nutritional Thera-pist and Registered Dieticians assist in developing nutrition-al plans for patients that lack certain vita-mins or need to gain or lose weight. They can also help in heal-ing open areas and wounds on patients.

Patients and fami-

lies can work hand in hand with any staff member to develop a plan of care for each

individual resident to optimize these ser-vices for the best quality outcome.
