Coach Don Betts is optimistic about the season and says the returning varsity players, along with six juniors, are really fast and that they have a couple good shooters. Betts said they’d try and exploit those strengths by pressing and running the floor more. “We’re deeper than we have been,” said Betts. “Basically we have five or six players that are interchangeable.” Betts said he feels like he can substitute a player at any position and not lose anything. He added that this group of girls is also really tight and has a good chemistry. “They work together and are working hard,” said Betts. Teton is again lacking in the height department and will likely be outsized throughout the season. Betts said they also have a few younger kids that will likely help them out later in the season. This year’s schedule is also improved. Last year Teton had to play North Fremont four times in the regular season. This year they gained back games with Soda Springs and Snake River. Girl’s basketball in Eastern Idaho is generally pretty strong, but Betts said the conference is up for grabs. He said Salmon is going to be tough and certainly bigger. Sugar, he said, is deep and well coached. “The jury’s out,” said Betts. “My gut says that we’re going to have a better season than we’ve had in a long time. We’re going to lose some games, but by the end of the season, if they aren’t afraid to work hard, they’ll make things happen.” Betts said he loves the attitude the team has. “I don’t want to get too optimistic, but that’s where we’re at.” The freshman game on Saturday begins at 4:30 p.m. with junior varsity and varsity following. West Jefferson is the 2A defending state champion. Betts said they are tough, but that Teton is hoping to give them a good game, adding that West has an outstanding senior guard in Cassidy Skidmore. The Teton women’s basketball team kicks off its season on Saturday when the Lady Redskins host West Jefferson. The Redskins return four players with varsity experience in seniors Emily Thompson, Sandra Zamora, junior Mikiah Dansie and sophomore Brooke Rammell.

Coach Don Betts is optimistic about the season and says the returning varsity players, along with six juniors, are really fast and that they have a couple good shooters. Betts said they’d try and exploit those strengths by pressing and running the floor more.

“We’re deeper than we have been,” said Betts. “Basically we have five or six players that are interchangeable.”

Betts said he feels like he can substitute a player at any position and not lose anything.

We’re going to lose some games, but by the end of the season, if they aren’t afraid to work hard, they’ll make things happen.”

Betts said he loves the attitude the team has.

“I don’t want to get too optimistic, but that’s where we’re at.”

The freshman game on Saturday begins at 4:30 p.m. with junior varsity and varsity following. West Jefferson is the 2A defending state champion. Betts said they are tough, but that Teton is hoping to give them a good game, adding that West has an outstanding senior guard in Cassidy Skidmore.

Teton plays at home again on Wednesday, taking on North Fremont. The JV game begins at 6 p.m. with varsity following.
