TVWS Band Advantages

• Wavelengths is around 0.5 a meter

• Leaves and rain drops are much smaller

• Ground wave component follows the earth well in hilly terrain

• Lower free-space loss (proportional to the square of the frequency) - improves range

• Best frequency band for throughput at non-LOS deployment

• Unlicensed Spectrum

7

TVWS Band Disadvantages

• Antenna has to be physically large

• Protection for existing TV operators and other licensed users requires a strict limit on out-of-band emissions

• Geo-location database interface

• Unlicensed radio channels can be interfered

Potential Markets Characteristics

• Markets with scarcity of BWA infrastructure

• Locations with difficulties in RF signal propagation due to partially hilly terrain or foliage

• Users at which Wi-Fi can not provide the access but VHF/UHF can.

• Users at which Wi-Fi bands are interfered

• Bandwidth expectations – up to 10 (also 20) Mbps throughput per base.

• Service range - 2 to 12 Miles radius

10

The First Market

The First Target Market is the WISP’s in Rural America.

Such WISPs need a low cost and reliable solution to reach those customers at the edge of their Broadband Networks or in difficult locations (NLOS behind trees and hills, mines, etc)

In general its an “Add On” to their existing network

11

WISP Wish List (WISPAPALOOZA 2014)

• Reach over 4 miles even at hilly terrain with foliage

• Less interference (compared with WiFi)• Better penetration (compared with 900 MHz band)• Flexible installation• Router and bridge mode CPE• Deployed elements manageability• Meet FCC requirements

And at Affordable price

WISP’s Business Case

If the WISP has more than 4-6 TVWS available channels in its service area:

– WISP can increase coverage area by 50% to 200% and reach additional remote customers with an investment of ~60K$/100 new subscribers.

– Provide Broadband services of 2 to 10 Mbps – Expected ROI of 10-12 month

FCC TVWS Regulations – RunCom Solution Principles

• TVWS band 470 (Ch. 14) to 698 (Ch. 51) MHz band• RunCom TVWS solution devices are Fixed Devices• Interface of RunCom TVWS Solution devices with the Geo-location

database is managed by its AFAS package• AFAS includes all the relevant information required to handle the

TVWS database access.• Part of the information is loaded by the Operator (owner details,

location and height of devices, FCC ID, …) and parts are collected by the AFAS (BS location) server

• AFAS registers each device and rechecks routinely the available channels for each.

• If TVWS channel is no longer available for a Device, AFAS will order the Device to change its channel or stop transmitting if no channel is available

• When connection with TVWS database is lost and was not reestablished, system will stop transmitting at midnight of the following day

• At present TVWS Evaluation Systems are offered.• These can be used under an FCC Experimental License

(RunCom assists to acquire the license) • Customers can return the equipment if not satisfied. • RunCom is in the final phase of certifying its TVWS

devices (Base Station and CPE).• Planned to accomplish certification by 1Q 2015.
