with Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner, along with a legendary cast of guest star celebrities and musicians including Don Rickles, Ethel Merman, Bing Crosby, Dame Maggie Smith, The Pointer Sisters, Steve Martin and Betty White, among others. This change also marks a transition for us. As we begin the broadcast of Carol Burnett, we will begin to say our good-byes to the Lawrence Welk Show. This variety show has been with WITF and many other public television stations for years. We have appreciated everyone’s interest, enthusiasm, and support for the series. The Lawrence Welk Show continues

through August 2021, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the music and memories of this series for months ahead. To make room for Carol Burnett, Lawrence Welk will move up to 6pm Saturday.

Election 2020 coverage begins to ramp up this month, although some of the details are subject to change. As of the time I am writing this article, both major party

conventions are still scheduled to occur this month. As we have all seen this year, any live event may be subject to change in shape and form. The typical broadcast design for these conventions includes coverage across four days (Monday to Thursday) three hours each night. You will see that is still the plan as we printed this guide. However, guid-ance from my colleagues at NPR and PBS NewsHour suggest these events continue to evolve and the actual broad-cast schedule surrounding these events may be altered by the time we get to these dates.

Our summer concert series continues Thursday nights (and select Fridays) features Paul Simon, The Doobie Brothers, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, Neil Diamond, Mumford & Sons, Avett Brothers and Sam Smith. The idea to gather up these concert specials was born out of the fact that we cannot all gather to watch our favorite artists to perform in person. We hope you enjoy the music this summer.

Early next month more daytime to evening changes are coming. An hour of PBS KIDS programming will be moving from 7:00pm to noon. In all, we will continue to broadcast seven hours of PBS KIDS programming every weekday. This change will unify children’s programming in one singular block of programming and then when we pivot to general audience programming at 1pm, we’ll stay with general audience. This will mean cooking and how-to programs in

the middle of the day will shift to 1pm from noon. The goal is to provide a seamless schedule of programming for you to enjoy.

Starting next month, we welcome a new variety show to our Saturday night schedule that I’m sure will become a favorite of yours. The Carol Burnett Show will run Saturday nights at 7pm. This initial broadcast of episodes on WITF features personally chosen episodes from Carol as they originally appeared from the show’s run 1967 to 1978. Relive the laughs

New Host of 1A Jenn White is the new host of 1A, produced by WAMU 88.5 in

Washington D.C. A seasoned journalist and podcast host, Jenn has worked in

public radio since 1999. She joins WAMU 88.5’s 1A from Chicago’s WBEZ where, since 2016 she has held several on-air positions as host of the station’s local two-hour midday show, Reset with Jenn White; and before that as host of The Morning Shift.

Before WBEZ, White was local host of All Things Considered at Michigan Public Radio in Ann Arbor. White is also skilled as a public speaker and has moderated numerous on-air gubernatorial and mayoral debates. Jenni is a native of Detroit and graduate of the University of Michigan.
