Hi I’m John Fleer, a high school student and a Cherry Mobile Flare 2.1 user.

In many different groups of Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0/2.1, I noticed that many people are frequently

asking questions about their device such as “how to root cm flare 2.0, how to install custom rom, etc. So

I decided to make a tutorial from which I have also learnt from our group members and my experience

also. I will give credits to them in order to show my respect and to give thanks for their knowledge.

Hope you will learn also in this tutorial about your phone.

I.

What is Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 / 2.1?

First of all it is the second version of the Cherry Mobile Flare Edition. From Cherry Mobile Flare S100(see photos below) which is equipped with its Dual Core Processor with 512mb RAM to Cherry Mobile

Flare 2.0 and until people demanded for the RAM capacity shortage that’s why Cherry Mobile released

the Cherry Mobile Flare 2.1 equipped with 1gb RAM which fulfill your needs.

When compared to design or looks, in my opinion, Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0/2.1 is better due to its 3

Capacitive Touch Buttons which is similar to other popular brands like Samsung, LG, etc. In terms of

display, flare s100 is better due to its scratch free screen and more colors to its display, but for all

performance, Flare 2.0/2.1.

II.

How to Root

What is ROOT?

ROOT(ing) - usually is the way of making your phone’s system vulnerable.Being your phone’s system vulnerable does not brick your phone but it may

cause risks to a user who doesn’t know how to use properly. Making your

system vulnerable makes it editable. By rooting your device, this could make

your device smoother or (rear) lag. Depends upon the rooting process you

have done to your device.

KINDS OF ROOTING PROCESS:

Via on your device (using software/apk)

Via PC (VROOT or SP Flash Tool)

ROOTING your Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0 / 2.1

The Easiest way to root your Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0/ 2.1

Via PC using VROOT - Vroot is an one-key root tool designed by Mgyun-

Instructions/Guide:

Download VROOT in the given link

Click “Get VROOT” to download the file on your PC

After downloading, install it on your PC

“You can choose its installation directory, upon installing, just click

“Next” to proceed and to install it successfully.”

When Installation is done, open “VROOT.exe” on your desktop

In some cases, VROOT is named “ROOT” .

This does not affect the rooting tool anyway,

just open it to launch VROOT.

4.

VROOT is now open, get your phone ready by connecting your phone in the PC which is charged

with the minimum of 15% or up to avoid errors or any bugs/ complications in your rooting.

Materials Needed:

Your device (Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0/2.1)

- Micro USB chord

- PC / Laptop / Netbook etc. (windows XP or up)

VROOT Application

- Knowledge and Experience (for newbies kindly follow instructions properly)

In your phone, turn on the USB Debugging mode by Settings -> Developer Options -> USB

Debugging Mode. Connect your device to the PC using your Micro USB cable then wait for the

VROOT to detect your device. Make sure that the instructions given above is followed properly.

(USB Icon shows “ X ” if debugging is off)

6.

After VROOT detected your phone, it will automatically download your phone’s driver.

7.

When VROOT is done downloading your drivers, it will show you the ROOT button.

(VROOT Application when opened) (USB Icon loads when device connected)

Wait for the ROOTing process to be done.

9.

Your phone will Reboot, one application is installed, it is “Root Master” which serves as your

SuperSU, to totally proved that your phone is rooted, you can download Root Checker via

Playstore, after installing Root Checker, open it and you will see a “Verify Root” button, press it

then you will be prompt by the RootMaster, press allow to continue checking your device, a

notification will show that “Root Checker gain Root” Then Congratulations! Your Flare 2.0/2.1 isrooted.

III.

How to Put CWM Recovery mode

First, what is CWM? CWM is the acronym for the term Clockwork Mod. Basically,

all of the phones or devices which are sold all over the globe are built with theirown stock recovery mode. With this stock recovery mode, you can install update

(.zip), Wipe factory reset, wipe cache and Reboot the system as seen in the stock

recovery mode such as cherry mobile etc. Why CWM is needed? Basically phone that

are running their stock recovery mode has restrictions where in you can’t install easily (.zip) files needed

to customize your phone. By installing CWM Recovery mode in your device, you can now manipulate the

system and customize it easily. It may be risky but with instructions, you can successfully modify it.

So let’s start putting CWM Recovery mode on your device

INSTALLING CWM Recovery Mode to your Cherry Mobile Flare 2.0/2.1

The easiest and safe mode to install CWM Recovery Mode

Via your device using these tools below:

How to Install?

1.

Your Phone must be rooted

(How to root? Please see Table of Contents to know how :D )

2. Download Recovery.img save it on your memory card (or internal SD if you dont have external SD)

3. Download and install BusyBox Pro app

- Open BusyBox Pro

- For first time users, wait for set up to complete (you will see on the top level the loading process)

- For install type, choose Smart Install. After installation, exit the app by pressing the home button of

your device

4. Download and install Recovery Tools app

5. Upon opening the Recovery Tools app, you will see a WARNING dialog box. You can create a backup

recovery first (recommended!) or just continue without backup (Not that risky)

6. In Main Menu, select "Flash Recovery"

7. Choose Other from Storage

8. Select your downloaded "Recovery.img" which is saved on your specified location.

9. If prompted again by WARNING dialog box, just select Yes,please

10. After that, Go to Main Menu/ Rebooter. Then choose Reboot Recovery

11. Wait for your phone to reboot to recovery mode. You will see an inverted screen of Recovery Mode

and you will also notice that the CWM-base Recovery is v6.0.2.8.

12. GOOD JOB! Your Recovery Mode is now CWM!

IV.

How to use CWM Recovery mode

Now that we come to the part that you have CWM Recovery Mode, let’s take a short tutorial on how

you will use it because using it without knowledge is risky, it can cause errors or problems to your device

such as bootloops, deadboot or any known error on your device.

Some cases of errors or problems that had been encountered by Android users are like this which is

caused of not following directions or wrong use of their system.

Successful Installation of CWM Recovery Mode is the result of following the instructions/guide properly.The image below shows the example screen of any CWM Recovery mode on any phones.

This is the actual screen of CWM Recovery Mode. There are 2 kinds of CWM,

The touchscreen version and the volume key version, but in Flare 2.0/2.1

Inverted volume key version is the tested and proven CWM for it to use.

Upon using the volume key version, you will use the Volume buttons, the

Volume Up and the Volume Down to access the up and down and to choose, press power button. By

now, you successfully learnt how to use CWM Recovery Mode visit their website at www.clockworkmod.com

V.

How to Flash a flashable (.zip)

What is Flashable (.zip) ? It is a zip (.zip) file which is used as your Install/Setup Application to your

Android Device, in installing it, you need to go into your Recovery Mode, your recovery mode must beCWM (Clockwork Mod).

Go to your CWM Recovery mode… How?

-

Turn Off your Device

-

Hold Volume Up + Power Button simultaneously

-

Wait until it opens then release your hand

-

Inverted CWM Recovery mode

-

Use volume buttons to navigate, power button to accept

To flash (.zip) to your Android Device (FLARE 2.0/2.1)

-

Boot to Recovery Mode (must be CWM Recovery Mode)

-

Choose Wipe Data/ Factory Reset

-

Then Wipe Cache Partition

-

After that go to Advanced

-

Choose Wipe dalvik cache

-

Then Go back

-

Choose install zip from sd card

-

Choose a flashable (.zip) that you have downloaded (example customrom.zip)

-

Wait for it to finish installing

-

Reboot System

-

You’re Done! You have installed the file that you want to install.

*NOTE: This tutorial is very helpful when flashing a custom rom, an update to your android device, a

flashable applications (.apk into .zip) and in rooting your device via software.

How to Flash

- download the rom put in on your sdcard

-wipe data

-wipe cache

-go to advance (wipe dalvik cache)

-install zip on sd card

-select the rom

-wait until finish

-reboot

-The first Boot will take to long so PLEASE WAIT UNTIL THE BOOT IS FINISH

-I suggest after the firstboot REBOOT YOUR PHONE AGAIN...

Reminder: DO NOT use any task killers, they DO NOT improve performance nor battery life. They

INTERFERE with your phone's stability (more crashes) and App compatibilities (Forced Close).

Before flashing:

- Always backup your ROM. You can do this by selecting Backup/Restore when you are in CWM

recovery.

- Create Cron4Phone directory in the root of your SDCARD before flashing this ROM so there would

be a repository of CRON logs. (Case sensitive po ha so kindly follow how the folder name was

written >>> Cron4Phone)

Flashing Instructions:

1. Download ROM (check link below) and put it on your SD card. Don't put it inside sub-folders

so that you can easily find it.

2. Boot into CWM - Turn off your phone. Hold power + volume up. Screen will turn green and

then red. Once red release the buttons and you're now in CWM.

3.

Select clear data/factory reset then clear dalvik cache (under advanced).

4. Install via SD card > find the downloaded zip. Wait until the installation is done.

5. Flash the gapps (you don't need to wipe data/factory reset).

6. Wipe dalvik cache again then reboot your phone.

How to push files to system

Pushing of Files into your system folder is a little bit kind of risky but with guide, risks become success. In

this tutorial, I will give some tips and guide on how to push file into your system folder. Let’s Start!

PUSHING Files into your system folder

We will use “Root Explorer” application in order to this

*NOTE: Now that you have root access to your android device (CM Flare 2.0 & 2.1) you can use this app

to push files on your system.

[APP] Root Explorer – you can download it via Google PlayStore by searching it or you can download

directly to your PC or Android phone. (Download link below)

How to change font

First, this tutorial is quick and easy. Just like custom roms, installation of font

to your android device is through CWM Recovery mode. We can also install

font via Google Playstore or thru application (.apk) which requires root

access to your device. To know how, let’s start!
