On Thursday 30 July, 5/6E and 5/6C went to the Riverina Educational Education Centre. We met Darron – the Principal, Danyelle – a teacher and Aunty Jocelyn – the Aboriginal Elder for the REEC land.

We learnt that Yindyamarra means slowly, carefully and respectfully in Wiradjuri language and Garuu means magpie. We also learnt lots of skills that would help us survive in the wild. These skills included throwing spears and boomerangs at cut-outs of emus and kangaroos and how to find bush tucker. We learnt how to make humpies which is Wiradjuri for a hut. We learnt how throughout time, land was destroyed for power lines, houses and essential things. We also learnt that Aunty Jocelyn was the first elder at Kapooka.

Everyone had so much fun that it did not feel like learning. We thank Darron, Danyelle and Aunty Jocelyn for our enjoyable day at the REEC.

On Monday, 3rd August, 3/4I celebrated School's Tree Day (a few days late, but every day can be a tree day!) by planting 100 seedlings in the gardens at the front of the school that run alongside the hall and the office. Alice Kent from Wagga City Council facilitated the delivery of the seedling, which were lovingly planted by the students under the watchful eye of Mr Honeyman.

    Good morning TPPS families

Welcome to NSW Public School Education Week! This is usually a week where all public schools showcase their talents by performing down at the Marketplace at different times during the week. Due to restrictions relating to COVID-19, we are limited to only having display boards in the Marketplace.

    • The TPPS boards feature our Harmony Day writing and pictures as well as including selected writing and artwork from around our school. Our boards are out front of Valley Girl if you can get down there and have a look.

    • Our EAL/D homework centre will be starting up again in Week 5. We are scheduled to go ahead on Monday 17/8 from 3:30pm. We will send out more information as the date gets closer.

    • This week is the start of our Christian Education Team (CET) religious education for Kindergarten to Year 6. On Wednesday afternoon Lexi and Phil will be here to work with students whose parents have elected to have their children attend religious education lessons. Our Catholic religious education has not recommenced yet.

    • Day excursions and incursions are still going ahead in NSW public schools and at Turvey Park. Our restrictions have been clarified and tightened in some areas and we are always being careful to implement the appropriate health and hygiene practices.

    • Our restrictions relating to unnecessary adults on our school site have not changed. Please do not come into our playground or carparks for any reason. Access to the school is via our front office doors on Halloran Street. This is so we can control who is in our school and keep our staff and students as safe from possible contamination as possible.

    • Lastly, please respect social distancing and no smoking procedures at our ‘gates’. I have noticed that many parents and carers wait for their little people at the ‘gates’ and it is getting more difficult to stand the required distance apart. If we add in smokers who are too close, then we have an unsafe space for our little people to come into. Please stand two big steps away from each other and take your cigarettes to the corner if you need to smoke. Thank you.

    Stay safe.

EXTENDED TRADING HOURS FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE!HEADLICE

There has been reported cases of head lice at the school and your child may have contracted the condition. We are asking that all parents examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation. The lice themselves are often hard to find because they move around on the head. Therefore, you should be looking for the eggs or nits. These appear as tiny white specks attached to the hair shaft near the scalp. Dandruff and hairspray may look similar but these are easily brushed away, the eggs are not. Other signs of lice infestation may be rash or scratch marks on the scalp , nape of the neck or behind the ears.

If your child has contracted head lice do not be alarmed. Although the condition is unpleasant, it is eas-ily treated with specialised treatment available from your local chemist. After using the lotion as per the instruction on the pack, use a fine tooth comb to remove the dead lice and eggs. Any articles which may harbour lice such as clothes, hats, towels and bed linen should be washed in hot water and detergent. Combs and brushes should also be washed in hot soapy water.

As head lice are highly contagious it is suggested that you examine and treat all members of the family at the same time.should also be washed in hot soapy water.
