TURQUOISE TIMES
break from school. Whether
your soaking up the sun or
hiding from it (like me), I hope
that you all will make the
effort to attend some service
events! There are some really
fun ones coming up such as
volunteering at the local and
county fairs! Speak to your
presidents for more details!
We need to keep our service
hours up and volunteering is
always a fun to do with your
friends so please check for
upcoming KIWIN’S events.
Because I will be out of
town from July 12-July 28, my
next DCM will be held in
Ventura in August so please
please attend! I would love to
see new faces! :) If you need
to reach me, feel free to call
me or email me (see last
page for contact info) Until
next time!

HEY TURQUOISE!!!<3
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Megan McKnelly and I’m your new District Secretary for the 2012-2013 year!
The Turquoise Division is like my family, and without joining one of their KIWIN’S clubs, I would not be where I am today. I go to
Adolfo Camarillo High School in Camarillo, and I’d like to send a big shout out to my home school club and thank them for always supporting me!
You guys are the best!!! And I’d also like to thank your amazing secretaries! You are all so lucky to have such wonderful, hardworking KIWIN’S
members as your secretaries. Being a secretary can be hard work, so whenever you get a chance, make sure to thank them for being so awesome.
Outside of KIWIN’S, I’m involved in various other clubs and organizations including Mock Trial and the American Cancer Society Club. I
enjoy traveling, cooking, hiking, spending time with friends and families, and so many other things! But the one organization that has had a huge
impact on my life is KIWIN’S. It has taught me so much about myself and about the world, and I feel so lucky to have become close friends with so
many wonderful people through this organization. I can’t wait to get to know all of you!!! Feel free to contact me with any questions you might
have or if you just want to say hi!
For the coming year, I have so many plans for Cal-Nev-Ha KIWIN’S! From the new Monthly Report Form to filling out my own MRFs
each month, I’ve been keeping pretty busy trying to make this the best KIWIN’S year yet. However, the reason KIWIN’S is so unique and close to
everyone’s heart is because of you guys: the general members and club officers. You work every day to help change the lives of others while
serving your homes and communities. Thank you so much for being so dedicated to this organization; we couldn’t be where we are today without
you! Keep up the good work, and together we truly can make a difference in the world.
And finally, make sure to thank your amazing LTG, Jessica Tran! Jessica, I am so proud of you
and I feel honored to call you one of my best friends! If your clubs don’t realize it already, they’ll soon find
out that you are the perfect LTG!<3
Good luck in the coming year! Make me proud!!!
XOXO,
Megan McKnelly

P.S. I better see Turquoise win the Spirit Stick this year!!!(:
SPOTLIGHT ON YOUR DISTRICT SECRETARY: MEGAN MCKNELLY!
“Megan McKnelly is not just an
inspiration to me, she is the epitome of a
well-rounded, hard working student. Not
only does she balance her demanding
school schedule, but she still finds the
time to hold multiple club positions,
provide weekly tutoring to classmates, run
in cross country events, and after all that,
she still manages to look great everyday.
It is an honor and privilege to have
Megan as a friend.”

Not only did Turquoise get together
for a lot of fun and a lot of information, but we
also lent a helping hand to those supporting
military family overseas.
In order to show our love and support
for the ones fighting abroad for our very own
country, Camarillo and Foothill KIWIN’S
participated in making and sending friendship
bracelets to military kids whose family members
are deployed
Yes, there were knots and faults along
the way, but we are all sure that through these
friendship bracelets, Turquoise could tie a tight
knot of their own and the kids’ friendships.
Who’s our new LTG, and what are her goals?
You might have stuttered and stumbled and maybe even blanked out if I asked you
this question a month ago, but thanks to the June DCM, now you can answer without
hesitation (and maybe even with a huge smile on your pretty face):
and so on and so on and so on.
On June 2, after the OTC, all Turquoise gathered for their very first DCM. With Ms.
Rexford presiding and Jessica leading the meeting, Cam and Foothill KIWIN’S members
(awkwardly at first but more naturally as time went on) introduced themselves to each other
and made new friends.
A call to meeting then resounded in the small but tidy room, and Turquoise was set to
go— informed with every piece of information (major emphasis, minor emphasis, district
project, and our new LTG’s goals) and the very best LTG one could ask for: Jessica Tran.

RECAP: Turquoise Division Banquet 2012!
A big thank you to all of you who attended the 2012 Tur-
quoise Division Banquet! The event was truly a great way
to celebrate a fabulous year and bond with fellow Tur-
quoise Turtles from both Foothill and Camarillo. Besides
eating and socializing with friends, members were able to
splash around in the water and play volleyball. Both the
Foothill and Camarillo 12-13 boards
were installed and the Camarillo 11-
12 board honored IP President Betty
Stearns with a signed group picture of
the club and a gift certificate to a
beauty salon. Jackie Palma was also
honored with a scrapbook for her
hard work and accomplishments in KIWIN’S.

WIN’S help out at the Oxnard Rescue Mission. 6-12 people
attend every time, and rescue mission forms have to be filled
out prior to the event for first timers. As part of our project,
we are proud to serve the less fortunate in this great month-
ly event.
Schools for Salone
By Lucy Liao and Clare Riley
Microsoft June 26, 2012—The Masquerade for Africa was a fundraiser held on
June 26 at the Pointsettia Pavillion. The event’s primary goal was to
fundraise for Schools for Salone, a program aimed towards building
schools in underprivileged villages in Africa. This is an organization close to our advisor’s heart and a
part of the fundraising was to send him back to Sierra Leone to train teachers in remote villages. KI-
WIN’S members gathered a few hours prior to the event to help set up and receive job assignments
for the actual event. During the event, members encouraged guests to participate in the silent auction,
face painting, and writing or drawing messages on the Schools for Salone mural, which the teachers will
take on their trip to Africa in July. Massages, psychic readings, and photo booths were also available to
guests in an effort to raise money for the program. The event was a huge success and FTHS KIWIN’S
is proud to have contributed to such a great cause and supported our advisor!
Ventura Kiwanis Meeting
June 15, 2012—Jessica Tran, Ms. Rexford, Emily Sim, Lucy Liao, Nor-
int Tung and Logan Werre introduced themselves to the Ventura Ki-
wanis. Jessica gave the Kiwanis a brief update on what happened at
May Board and thanked them for supporting Foothill KIWIN’S.
