Connect the Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL) to the 9 pin connector. 2. Connect the actuator to the engine harness. 3. Perform the pre-installation service routine using DDDL. NOTE: When the pre-installation service routine has been completed ensure the actuator is operational (key-on) but the engine is not started. 4. Check the sector shaft movement; the sector shaft must move from stop to stop. NOTE: Rotate the sector shaft clockwise one complete turn and install the alignment pin. The sector shaft should cover 1/2 the hole when rotated counter clockwise. The alignment pin will fit through the sector shaft and into the turbocharger housing when rotated clockwise. Once aligned do not move the sector shaft. NOTICE: Only apply grease supplied with actuator to the actuator sector gear teeth. 5. Apply the supplied grease from the bolt kit to the teeth of the sector shaft. 6. Remove the alignment pin from the sector shaft.

    SUBJECT: TURBOCHARGER ACTUATOR

    PUBLICATION: 6SE2007

    DETAILS AND REASON

The EPA07 Series 60 Service Manual has been revised. Procedures are revised and are available onPower Service Literature (PSL) or hard copy.

    6.4.2 Installation of the Actuator

    Install the actuator as follows:

    1. Connect the Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL) to the 9 pin connector.

    2. Connect the actuator to the engine harness.

    3. Perform the pre-installation service routine using DDDL.

NOTE:When the pre-installation service routine has been completed ensure the actuator is operational(key-on) but the engine is not started.

    4. Check the sector shaft movement; the sector shaft must move from stop to stop.

NOTE:Rotate the sector shaft clockwise one complete turn and install the alignment pin. The sectorshaft should cover 1/2 the hole when rotated counter clockwise. The alignment pin will fit throughthe sector shaft and into the turbocharger housing when rotated clockwise. Once aligned do notmove the sector shaft.

NOTICE:Only apply grease supplied with actuator to the actuator sectorgear teeth.

    5. Apply the supplied grease from the bolt kit to the teeth of the sector shaft.

    6. Remove the alignment pin from the sector shaft.

  • 7. Using new bolts and a gasket from the bolt kit install the actuator onto the turbocharger housing.

NOTE:Ensure that the speed sensor wire clips are on the correct mounting bolts (front bolts) beforeinstalling the mounting bolts.

    8. Torque the four actuator mounting cap screws to 3 Nm (26 in.lb) using a diagonal sequence.

    9. Ensure actuator harness and engine harness are routed correctly.

    10. Final torque the actuator mounting cap screws to 11 Nm ( 97 in.lb) using a diagonal sequence.

    11. Turn key to off position.

    12. Attach coolant pipes and torque the fittings to 34 Nm (25 lbft).

    13. Fill the coolant system to the proper level.

    14. Initiate the on-turbocharger calibration command using DDDL.

    15. Perform the scan test using DDDL.

    16. If no diagnostic error codes are observed clear the codes in the Motor Control Module (MCM)and Common Powertrain Controller (CPC).

ENGINE EXHAUSTTo avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operatethe engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic.

    17. Start and run the engine for verification of proper engine operation.
