TUNZA International Children’s Conference on the Environment 2008
Participation of Connecting Classrooms team
Connecting Classrooms at Stavanger, Norway
• After more than one year of engagement in activities to protect the environment, members of Connecting Classrooms further their commitment to UNEP with their participation in the TUNZA International Children’s Conference on the Environment 2008.
• Connecting Classrooms delegates from Mauritius, Namibia and Senegal amongst others have shown much concern and enthusiasm during the conference.
Opening Ceremony
• Participants held their country’s flag with a feeling of pride; proud to be young ambassadors of the environment.
• The opening ceremony provided the very first taste of Norwegian folklore, arts and culture.
Workshops & Fieldtrips
• Both delegates and their chaperones have had the opportunity to participate in the various field trips and workshops organised.

• The workshops and fieldtrips have been efficiently tailored – chaperones have learned new techniques to engage children’s curiosity and interest in science and environment; children have shown tremendous enthusiasm.
• The conference has been a perfect platform for the sharing of views and ideas, not to mention the formation of new bonds and links among countries.

Tree Planting Activity
• Friday, June 20th, 2008, representatives present at the conference contributed to the offset of carbon dioxide emission by planting a tree before heading to the closing ceremony.
