GENERAL INFORMATION

This portion of the cemetery is for burials in the traditional manner, with the family then erecting monuments on the gravesite. It is Council’s policy that only one burial per burial place is permitted. In the past, double-depth graves have been permitted, but the practice is now discontinued due to site difficulties and Safe Work Practices requirements.

The erection of a headstone is the responsibility of the client in consultation with a Stonemason. The Stonemason will need to receive permission from Council for the erection of a monument. Ongoing care and maintenance of the headstone is the responsibility of the client. Please contact the Council’s Cemetery Services Officer for further information on 02 6591 7240.

In addition to a burial, up to four urns of ashes remains may be interred into the one gravesite. If clients wish, a burial place may be purchased for the interment of up to six urns of ashes. NB: This would then be an “ashes only” site and no burial could subsequently be permitted in this burial place.

For interment of ashes into a grave, or installation of a memorial plaque in memory of another person, a columbarium-style plaque is permitted to be attached to the grave. An ‘Application for Monumental Work’ must be submitted to Council prior to work commencing.
