PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
FIRST SCHOOL PRODUCTION SUCCESS
What a great success the production was last week. We were extremely proud of the students and the staff for their hard work preparing for the performances.
The feedback from students was, “Can we do this again?” The students talked with me about being nervous before going on stage but so elated about what they achieved afterwards. Thank you to parents and families who not only spoke to myself and staff but wrote to our school email about how much they enjoyed the performance and the quality of the show. They praised the efforts of the teachers for the time they had given to ensure the students had this opportunity. Thanks to Mr Kilgour who wrote our script and Miss Jasiewicz who led the production committee for a smooth delivery of this enormous event.
If you wish to purchase a DVD of the school production - ‘Where in the World are Tulli and Allan?’ Please find attached instructions on how to place your order. Hard copies will also be available at the office. It is recommended you place your order within 5 working days of the performance to avoid delivery charges and late fees.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR TULLIALLAN ATHLETIC TEAM COMPETING TOMORROW
Weather permitting, we have students representing our school to compete against a number of schools in the Hampton Park District Athletics tomorrow. Our students always display sportsmanship and encouragement of each other to try for their best effort. We are very proud of you all.
WELCOME MR PETER WRIGHT – ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
We welcome Mr Peter Wright who has joined the Tulliallan Principal Class Team. Mr Wright brings a wealth of experience and we know that you will make him feel welcome.
THE VALUE OF CARING
The supporting value this week for students to focus on as part of our social skills program is Caring.
Caring is showing kindness to others
Caring is when we stop to help others in our school, like our Preps
Caring for someone means you are protecting them and their feelings
Caring for others shows we are good people
MATHEMATICS GAMES NIGHT WEDNESDAY 28TH AUGUST 6-7PM
Next Wednesday is our annual Mathematics Games Night. This night is a wonderful opportunity for all Tulliallan families to come and have fun while seeing how their children consolidate maths concepts through the use of maths based games. All Learning Communities will be open and games appropriate to each level will be set out for families to play and enjoy. Copies of each game will be available for interested families to take home.

PARENT OPINION SURVEY
Thank you to those families who have logged in to complete the Department of Educations’ Parent Opinion Survey. Unfortunately we only had 44 completed out of the 200 that were sent out to a random sample. We needed to receive 131 but have fallen short of this figure.
KEEP OUR STUDENTS SAFE – SUPERVISED CROSSINGS, PARKING, NO STANDING SIGNS AND SPEED LIMITS AROUND THE SCHOOL
Parents and family members dropping off or picking up students at Tulliallan PS need to obey the supervised crossing signs, parking and Victorian road laws. This is the responsibility of each driver. We receive many complaints about inconsiderate parking where our families are parking across or in residents’ driveways blocking access, parking on nature strips or in No Standing areas. This dangerous behaviour puts the students at risk. DO NOT PARK ON THE NARROW ROAD NEXT TO THE SCHOOL CARPARK CALLED RAVENHURST CIRCUIT AS THIS CAUSES TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND IS NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR DROPPING OFF OR COLLECTING STUDENTS WHO CANNOT BE SEEN CLEARLY BY DRIVERS.
Report any dangerous behaviour to police or to the City of Casey local laws area via [email protected] Email with attention to Local Laws or call 9705 5200.
KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE.
Have a lovely week.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS REPORT
SWIMMING
Tulliallan Primary School’s swimming program will commence in Term 4 from Tuesday the 8th of October through to Friday the 18th Of October. Our swimming program is an intensive nine day program which all children are expected to attend as part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum. The program is conducted at Casey Race Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Cranbourne. All students will travel by bus to and from the centre. At present, times for each year level have not been confirmed, however lessons will begin at 9.45am through to 2.30pm. This year the cost of the nine day program is $80.00. All information has been posted on COMPASS.
PARENT FEEDBACK SURVEY
Thank you to the families that have responded to the Parent Feedback survey that was posted on COMPASS two weeks ago. The three questions we were asking for responses to were:
Name three things that your child enjoys about learning at Tulliallan Primary School?
From a parent's perspective, what has been the best things about being part of the Tulliallan Primary School community?
If there was one thing you would like improved at Tulliallan, what would it be?
If you haven’t responded yet there is still a little time left before the survey closes.
NEW PARENT SURVEY
Today another survey was posted onto COMPASS regarding our school production. As it was our very first school production we are asking for feedback to ensure that we are always looking at how we can improve events that are conducted. Thank you in anticipation of your response.
FATHER’S DAY STALL AND RAFFLE
Thank you to families that have sent back money from selling raffle tickets for our Father’s Day hampers. All money and ticket butts need to be returned by Thursday August 29th, not the 23rd as stated on the flyer.
We are still looking for volunteers to help at the Father’s Day stalls on Friday August 30th. If you have a Working with Children Check and you are able to assist, please contact with office on 8766 3100 to leave your name.
HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD READ AT HOME
Play with language by making up rhyming words. Nurture a love of reading with your child. Eg. Make regular trips to your local library to borrow books. Ask
others to give books as gifts to your child. Always make reading time an enjoyable time for you both. Read and chant nursery rhymes. Play ‘I Spy’. I spy, with my little eye, something beginning with ‘r’. Say the sound rather than the letter name.
For younger children, use colour names rather than sounds. Have conversations and ask questions about interesting words you encounter. Eg. It says he tumbled down
the hill. How do you think he went down the hill? It says here that she had a good idea. What is another word we could use besides good?
Read aloud to your child to provide an example of how fluent reading sounds. At times, have your child match your voice.
![Page 5: Tulliallan Times · Year 3 Aboriginal ultural Workshop incursion Friday 30 August Year 6 ISS Home v St.Francis Wetland Walk lean Up - Green Team Monday 2 September Year 5/6 Hoop Time](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050205/5f589503cb59c6417311a539/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Discuss the meanings of unknown words that your child hears and reads. Ask your child questions about what he or she has read. Reading includes looking at pictures for younger children. Point to a letter on a sign or in other reading material and ask your child to name it and/or provide the sound. Help your child make connections between what he or she reads and similar experiences he or she has felt,
seen in a movie or read in another book. Have a good week.

A message from our new Assistant Principal...
Hello to everyone at Tulliallan Primary School. My name is Peter Wright and I am thrilled to be joining such a wonderful school community as the second full time Assistant Principal at Tulliallan Primary School.
I have worked in the Victorian Education system since 2005 and am passionate about supporting every child to become life-long learners who are socially, emotionally, physically and academically healthy. I have worked in a variety of schools during my career in both the Inner East and Outer East areas of Melbourne and am pleased to be joining a school in Southern Region for the first time.
I am a proud father of two young girls aged 4 and 5, and a long suffering supporter of the Essendon Football Club. I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to travel the world and experience many wonderful countries and cultures. I speak Spanish fluently after living for a number of years in Central and South America and love to talk with others about their travels.
I am excited to begin my work at the school and look forward to meeting you all over the coming days and weeks!
Peter Wright

SCHOOL NEWS
HASA SOCCER TRAINING
This term, Year Four students have been lucky enough to be involved in a weekly soccer training lesson run by Hope
Australia Soccer Academy (HASA). HASA is an organisation run by ex-Brazilian soccer players who aim to teach the
values of respect and discipline through soccer. The program has seen two HASA coaches take skills training
sessions and run small sided games with our students, which has been highly engaging and fun.
This week students were lucky enough to have ex-Brazilian footballer Antonio da Silva (2x German League
Champion with Borussia Dortmund) join them for the session and share some of his insights into what it takes to be
a professional footballer. Students were very eager to learn from and listen to a player of his calibre who has played
against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
HASA also invites all of the Tulliallan community who are interested in learning more about their program and what
they offer, to their Open Night tomorrow, Thursday August 22nd at their office located at 426 Princes Highway
Narre Warren.

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS Well done to everyone for the fantastic Book Week celebration today. It was super exciting to have our special superhero guests. You can ask your child about who came to share in our day. Students were involved in working with the shortlisted books over the last month and voted on their favourite. The winning book, as voted by our students, was CICADA by Shaun Tan. We had many entries into the Tulliallan Book Review competition making it difficult to choose our winners. The following children were announced as the winners in each year level: Year 1 LC1 Kurtis W Year 1 LC2 Tabitha H Year 2 Dhiya R Year 3 Jasleen S Year 4 Pranav D Year 5 Emma B Year 6 Tahlia M

TULLIALLAN’S TIPS TO PROMOTE BIODIVERSITY Biodiversity is simply the variety of life in an area (animals, plants, fungi and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up the natural world). These are essential to helping us maintain our own and our planet’s health and wellbeing. Below is the Green Team’s fourth tip to help conserve Australia’s biodiversity.
Tip 4. Reduce your waste! Australia is one of the most waste-producing nations on the planet and we can all do better to recycle our bottles, cans and paper. We can also compost our food scraps, take our soft plastics to Woolworths or Coles and dispose of toxic and electronic waste correctly. This will make a big difference to the environment and its animals! Try a Waste-Free Wednesday at home, bring Nude Food each day, bring your own cup or container rather than using disposables and remember to say ‘no’ to single-use plastics wherever you can!
TULLIALLAN PS BYO CUP SCHEME AND MUG LIBRARY
To help reduce the waste we send to landfill or to overflowing recycling facilities, we are working with the school canteen to implement a BYO Cup Scheme and Mug Library. Disposable coffee cups are lined with plastic and near impossible to recycle so they are usually destined for landfill and sadly often end up in our environment. Reducing and reusing are far better options, so we are encouraging all students, parents and staff to bring their own cups for coffee or hot chocolate. If you bring your own large cup you will receive extra coffee/hot chocolate as they are larger in size and help protect our environment. For parents who forget their cup in the morning we will have a limited amount of donated mugs available to use and return.
Thank you for your support!

VIRTUAL REALITY AT TULLIALLAN PS
As part of National Science Week, we received a grant for these Virtual Reality (VR) headsets. We have set up our headsets and devices and this week I invited some of the Year Five students to trial them and have a go at dabbling in the virtual world this week! The students were VERY excited and gave some positive feedback.
We are incredibly excited to get these resources into our Learning Communities. VR will enhance student learning in so many areas including engaging and inspiring students in Writing, enhancing students’ Inquiry units, exposing students to environments, experiences and parts of the world that they might not otherwise see, supporting concepts learnt in specialist areas and promoting critical and creative thinking through helping students develop their own virtual realities and settings. What an exciting time for learning - watch this space!
