PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
MEET THE TEACHER
Thank you to all of our parents who made a time to ‘Meet The Teacher’ yesterday. This meeting assists the partnership between parents, teachers and students to gain the maximum learning outcomes and enjoyment at school for your child. Your information helps us to focus on the goals for students to achieve either academically or socially for 2020.
TULLIALLAN FRIENDS OF THE ELM TREES COMMUNITY GROUP CEREMONY
It was a wonderful ceremony on Sunday celebrating the history of the heritage listed Elm Trees. Congratulations to Alyssa, our 2019 Green Team Captain as well as Ella and Emma, our 2020 Green Team Captains who spoke so capably at the event describing the importance of the Elm trees to our school and the way the 2019 Green Team named the trees. We acknowledged the finalists of the Logo competition and Geet’s winning logo design was unveiled on the City of Casey Heritage Post. Thank you to our families who attended this important event in the community.
UPDATE ON MRS MCDONALD
Mrs McDonald had a foot operation last week meaning that she is unable to be with us at the moment at Tulliallan. She is recovering well and already telling me she is bored and wishing to be back with us. We wish her a speedy recovery as we miss her. Miss Munro is Acting Assistant Principal until Mrs McDonald returns.
THE VALUE OF THE WEEK
This week students are concentrating on the value of “Friendliness”. Please praise your child when they are using correct language and actions promoting a friendly outlook towards others.
KEY STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS
Tulliallan PS has a strong Social Skills program. This program promotes positive social behaviour, acceptance and strategies to manage our emotions. At our school we encourage students to find a way to restore friendships when friends have had a falling out.
The following 3 strategies are used at our school by students to help resolve conflict. Please discuss these with your child at home.
3 STUDENT STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESSFUL SOLUTIONS
STEP 1 STEP AWAY Removes you from the problem. Gives time for you to think about how to solve your problem.
STEP 2 SPEAK UP Use kind words to get the best for you and others. Work out a solution that everyone is happy with.
STEP 3 SEEK HELP Ask a teacher for advice or help.
ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The Department of Education does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents/Guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs - such as ambulance. Parents/Guardians may obtain their own accident insurance privately from commercial insurers if they wish.
Have a great week.

WELL-BEING REPORT
BRAINSTORM PRODUCTIONS
On Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th February 2020, Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student Wellbeing Program ‘Buddies’ for all students at Tulliallan Primary School. The program encourages tolerance, kindness, anger management and conflict resolution.
The ‘Buddies’ incursion reinforces what your child has been learning in their Learning Community and is a part of the planned curriculum. We therefore encourage all children to attend this incursion in order to support the learning occurring in the classroom and to help celebrate and consolidate our work with ‘Team Tulliallan’.
ST JOHN’S AMBULANCE INCURSION
St John’s Ambulance Victoria will visit Tulliallan Primary School on 18th and 19th March to deliver their free ‘First Aid in Schools’ Program to our students. The program uses an innovative approach to ensure all First Aid lessons are a fun and interactive experience for students of all learning capabilities. Trained St John’s presenters lead students through tailored sessions on the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of a medical emergency. Our junior students learn about how to identify when there is an emergency, keeping themselves safe and how to call for an ambulance. Senior students will learn about delivering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the things they can do to assist in an emergency.
HATS
A reminder to all students to ensure they are bringing their sun smart hats to school each day during Term One. This is a part of our uniform requirement for all students when participating in outdoor activities, including recess and lunch play times. It has been terrific to see most children remembering to bring their hats to school and we would like to see all children enjoying their play times with their friends. New hats are available for purchase at the school office.
