WRITING - PERSUASIVE

Learning Intention: I can write short texts to convince my audience.Success Criteria: I have produced a short text using known persuasive features.

Gembrook Primary School Remote Learning Tasks

● Today's topic is: Every house should have a robot! They may choose to agree or disagreewith this statement.

● Brainstorm 3 ideas that explain why or why not. You may like to help scribe a writingplanner.

● After brainstorming, discuss how we can turn their favourite idea into a question. Forexample: a robot could do my housework etc, could be phrased as, Aren't you sick ofhousework? Wouldn’t it be great if your robot could wash your dishes everyday while youwatch a movie?

● Work towards completing the writing activity for a focused 15-20 minutes of writing.● Please support them so they can add a rhetorical question today.● For some of our students four whole sentences will be too much writing for one session.

Aim for one opening statement and one rhetorical question today as a minimum.

Extension task: Ensure they have completed their opening statement, three complete ideas, andtheir rhetorical question.

BREAK: Ensure students have a well-earned break with a snack, rest and a game/physical activity.

worth the most, to the coin that is worth the least.● If you are using real coins: you can double up on some if you like.● Place the real coins under the page and show your child how to do a coin rubbing to

GRATITUDE WEEK:

Learning Intention: I can understand what it means to show empathy.Success Criteria: I have demonstrated how I can show empathy by putting myself in others' shoes.

Learning Resources Required: Workbook, pencils, and digital device.

Learning Task:1. Tune in by watching: Kindness

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLGNj-xrgvY2. Think about:

● How can putting yourself in someone else's shoes help you better deal withsituations?

● How can helping someone else make you feel better?3. What is Empathy? Empathy is when you try your best to understand how someone else

might be thinking or feeling about a situation. You “put yourself in their shoes” andimagine what they might be going through. Empathy is not about what you would do ifyou were them or how you are feeling - it’s all about the other person!
