Attendance
Well done to Class 5 for
the best attendance this
fortnight.
Well done to Casey for
achieving 100% in April
and winning an LC2 Family
Waterpark Pass.
Dear Parent/carer,
Thank you for your support with the National Tests last week and
ensuring that pupils were in school on time to sit the tests. Every effort
was made to make the pupils confident to sit the tests. The papers have
been marked in school and the results will be sent off to the National
Assembly. The standardised scores will then be sent back to school and
included in the end of year reports. Despite what the test results tell us,
we are very proud of all of our pupils at Creunant with their unique
personalities. We know that every day they put smiles on our faces as
they develop far more important qualities than the tests will ever show.

Nursery – Mrs Dawn Jones
Last week we started practicing for our Sports Day
event, as usual all children will take part in many
different sporting activities and we will continue to
use our gym sessions on Thursdays to practice. Can
all nursery children wear trainers to school every
Thursday please.
Our sounds during the last 2 weeks have been –j
and v, the children are enjoying our Read, Write Inc.
sessions and are recalling previous sounds very well.
Our number last week was number 4.
We have set up a fishing pond in our water area; the
children are enjoying using fishing rods to catch the
magnetic fish.
Class 1 – Mrs. Catherine Thomas
Over the last couple of weeks we have been focusing on
subtraction. We have been using the Numicon placing the smaller
Numicon on top of the larger Numicon. We have also been using a
number line to count back.
We have been finding out about instruments that are used in the
samba band and have created our own sequences of sounds using
instruments in school.
The Year 1's have been writing their own algorithms to create a
crazy character and to create their own samba dance routine.
In Welsh we have been learning the names for the different
rooms in a house.
We have begun to practise for Sports Day - the egg and spoon
race, the sack race and balancing bean bags.
Class 2 – Mrs Donna Davies
I hope you all enjoyed your sunny weekend! Well
deserved, after all our tests. The children have made me
very proud; after all they are only young.
We have started our new topic ‘Wriggle and Crawl’,
enjoying the outdoors. We have set up a little garden in
our classroom, so that we can look at mini-beasts under
microscopes and magnifying glasses.
They have enjoyed drawing and labelling their mini-
beasts, writing and sharing facts, using paint to create
mini-beasts on HWB and the IPad, as well as numbering
body parts.
This is going to be an exciting ‘outdoors’ topic, so please
make sure your child wears suitable outdoors footwear
daily. Thank you for your continued support!
Class 4 – Mr. Darren Richards
Well the tests are finally over and the children
worked really hard so a big well done Class 4. After
a few weeks of practising, it’s time to get back to
normality. The children will be finishing off their
fantasy stories before we go on to our new genre. In
maths we are going to continue looking at shape
and measures, by looking at symmetry, angles,
measuring volume just to name a few. We have
started our new topic which is playlist and the
children are all super excited about starting a music
themed topic. Well done to the children for their
constant hard work and let’s keep this going!
Class 3 – Mrs. Abigail Williams
Well done to everyone in class 3 for trying
really hard in the tests last week! We can
forget about them and go back to our fun
topic ‘scrummdiddlyumptious’! We can’t
wait to do all the fun practical activities
Mrs Williams has planned for us. Please
can you remember to bring your reading
book to school every day and your
trainers so we can practice for sports’ day
whenever the weather is nice again.
Class 5 – Mrs. Gaynor Johnson
I hope you have all had a lovely May Day and are not too
sunburnt! The children have worked hard with their
numeracy and literacy tests last week and I am proud of
their dedication, perseverance and determination to do
their best. We have started our topic, 'Hola Mexico!' and
have been investigating how to play the Mayan Football
game by writing out a set of instructions. Next, we hope to
make up our own football game and write a set of own
rules and instructions. We have been looking at symmetry
in Maths and have investigating numbers of lines of
symmetry in 2D shapes and lines of symmetry to create
Sugar Skulls for the Mexican festival, 'The Day of the Dead!'
The children are looking forward to Tregoyd this weekend. I
hope the weather is kind! Have a good week! :)
