Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 Nolting Notes Dubois Elementary School, 120 South Lincoln Avenue, Springfield, IL Dear Parents/Guardians, The fieldtrip to Washington Park is coming up on May 10th. Permission slips are being sent home today. There is no cost for this fieldtrip and we will be walking to the destination. If you would like to chaperone, let me know ASAP. If you are a chaperone, make sure to bring yourself a lunch the day of the fieldtrip. This week we are continuing series book clubs in reading. Each student is a part of a series book club and just got a new book series to read. We have been studying the authors craft of each book series. We are working to notice literacy language and uncover what the author really means. As the week continues we will begin predicting how a book series will go, analyzing how authors plan story endings and planning the best way to share our book series with other readers! In Science, we just finished a unit on energy. In this unit we focused on heat, light and sound. We will now begin learning about the sun and the planets to prepare us for our planet research next week. There are 23 days of school left. There will be a lot of learning and assessments in the next few weeks. Please make sure that your child is well rested, arrives on time, and has had a good breakfast. Sincerely, Jenny Nolting & Taylor Bauer Writing This is our last week studying poetry! We are finishing the unit by writing Haiku’s and Cinquain poems. Next week we will begin planet research!
