Transcript of Tuesday 15th June 2021 Term 2 Week 9
The Future is in Learning
Welcome to Week 9. It is really hard to believe that it is the second last week of Term 2!
Thank you to our students, staff and families for your understanding with the postponing of our carnival last Friday due to the wet weather. We had hoped that it would clear as there was very little rain forecast,
however, as we now know it didn’t. It teased at times to clear but then came back in. A big thank you to our canteen staff who, in a very short amount of time, packed up and set up back at school. We have rescheduled the carnival for next Tuesday, 22nd June. The heats that were run will stand as we were able to complete up to and including the 11 years 200m. There is a short turnaround time for the return of lunch orders for the carnival.
Last week I was contacted by the Broken Hill City Council in relation to parking at the K-2 end or our school. Since the road works were completed at the intersection of Iodide and Morgan Streets, new signage has been installed and different conditions are now in place. Please ensure that when parking that you follow the directions of the signs. Council have been and will continue monitoring the situation and giving out fines. Their main concerns were cars parking between the crossing and the corner of Morgan Street and Iodide Street on the school side and cars parking too close to the corner on Morgan Street. Thank you for your assistance with following the parking expectations.
Last Friday was the last day for our Primary Health Care Nurse, Karen Harding-Smith. Karen was successful in winning a similar position on the South Coast. Karen and her family will relocate this week. Health are currently going through recruitment for the position, in the interim we will be supported by Jen Wellington. Jen currently works across three other schools in Broken Hill. Welcome Jen!
For the next two weeks we will have Miss Sarah Hampshire who will be completing her first teaching practicum with us. The focus of Sarah’s placement will be on observation. We know that everyone will make her feel welcome. Have a wonderful week of learning!
Thought for the Week: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL NEWS Last week was our school’s athletics carnival. In the lead up to the carnival, many students
gathered in the underfloor at lunchtime to create banners and posters for their house. It
was wonderful to see so many students get into the spirit if the event.
On Wednesday and Thursday the Years 3 - 6 students participated in the field events. Long
jump preliminary events took place in class time and then Ms Muir ran the finals on
Wednesday afternoon. Although there were no records broken, there were some pretty
good jumps.
The results of the long jump were:
Junior Girls
1st - Mollie Leayr
2nd - Claudia Shoobridge
3rd - Ella Deeble
Junior Boys
1st - Michael Hastwell
2nd - Levi Zanette
3rd - Charlie Glasson
11 Years Girls
1st - Scarlett Molloy
2nd - Zahlia Delbridge
3rd - Jahayla Knott
11 Years Boys
1st - Nate Stanley
2nd - Jack Millard
3rd - Lee-Min Sheehan
Senior Girls
1st - Jacob Johnson
2nd - Lane Darley
3rd - Bryce Milne
Senior Girls
1st - Lani Wolstenholme
2nd - Honey McLeod-Hewitson
3rd - Brooke Hammond
NEW RECORD SET! Congratulations to Lane Darley who broke the senior
boy’s discus record from 2009 by just over 2 metres. Lane
threw a massive 26.26m.
On Thursday the Years 3 - 6 competed in the shot put, discus and high jump events. It was
great to see so many students having a go, despite the wind, cold conditions.
On Friday we started
the track events at
Picton Oval. It was cold
and drizzly and in the
end the decision was
made to postpone the
rest of the events until
next week. Again, there
were lots of students
who turned up ready to
compete. Luckily they
were all rugged up!
