2014-15 REPORT FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Tucker Maxon Community,
Last year was one of the most successful years in Tucker Maxon School history. We are pleased to present to you
the 2014-15 Annual Report that summarizes the last year (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015). First, and foremost, we
educated 119 incredible children in our three divisions: Early Intervention, Preschool and Elementary School (see
page 4). We continue to focus on our number one goal to help our students reach their full potential. We started
the year with a new shared leadership structure combining both an Executive Director (Glen Gilbert) and school
Principal (Linda Goodwin), and ended the year with the strongest financial results in over 21 years (see page 2).
Along the way, we hired one new teacher, several educational assistants, an Audiologist and a Speech-Language
Pathologist. With one addition this year, we now have the highest rate of LSLS certified staff per capita of any
school in the West.
After months of input, the Board approved a 5-year strategic plan and officially removed the word “Oral” from our
name Tucker Maxon School. Four Board members retired after many years of dedicated service and four new
Board members were added during the year bringing new energy to governance. We also hired a new fundraising
and development team that led to a very strong year of foundation grants and a record-breaking annual appeal.
We continued to receive strong support from the Oberkotter Foundation and Rose Tucker Charitable Trust, and we
won a major Collins Foundation grant to purchase 30 state-of-the-art FM systems for our students. The April
Auction at the Hilton was a high point in the year, raising more funds for the school in one night than ever before
and bringing new energy to our mission on every level. Toward the end of the year, we secured funding for a new
monument sign for the school (see back cover) to bring greater visibility and attention to the school on busy
Holgate Blvd.
There were so many highlights this year; we dedicated an entire page to the year in review (see page 10). We are
thrilled to tell you that the school is in strong condition by all counts and our trajectory is upward to bigger and
better results. We would like to dedicate this Annual Report to Delmer Eisert, who retired from the Board of
Directors after 32 years of service. We miss you Delmer! Thank you.
Warm Regards,
Sharon Higgins Glen Gilbert

DEAR FRIENDS OF TUCKER MAXON,
Tucker Maxon School kicked off the 2014-15 year with a fresh and optimistic outlook as we welcomed our
new executive director, Glen Gilbert, and I became principal. After a busy and productive summer, 23
returning and four new staff members joined us at our all-staff retreat in August to prepare for the new
school year.
During our first week of school, we greeted 112 children eager to learn and grow – 86 typically hearing
students and 26 children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Nine infants and their families were enrolled in
our Early Intervention program, two of whom received services via tele-intervention. Our preschool
program was bustling with four full classrooms and a total of 49 students, five of whom had hearing loss.
The elementary program (K-5th grade) welcomed 52 students, 11 of whom are deaf or hard of hearing.
During the year, our enrollment grew to 119 students – 31 children who are deaf or hard of hearing and
88 typical hearing students, as three new families enrolled in the Early Intervention program and three
new children joined our kindergarten class. I had the pleasure of teaching a special class for children
transitioning from Early Intervention to preschool.
Our school was filled with learning and laughter throughout the year, and our students continued to
thrive academically, socially and physically. It is my honor to be principal of this wonderful school.
Sincerely,
Linda Goodwin
Principal & Teacher of the Deaf
Linda Goodwin, M.Sc., LSLS Cert., AVEd
We gratefully acknowledge our
2014-15 DONORS
With the support from our community, alumni, friends, and families, we succeeded in raising over $771,000 for the school.
As a vital part of our school community, your support is an investment in our students. Each gift matters and helps us to fulfill our
mission to teach deaf and hearing children to listen, talk, learn, and achieve excellence together.
Thank you!
