PRESSURE DROPBecause of the nature of the inner convoluted hose, the pressuredrop due to friction is greater than that of a smooth interiorpipe.
The table shows the approximate pressure drop for each size ofconvoluted tubing on flow rate when the fluid is water. To usethe table, you must read in one sitting on the baseline flow raterequired. When a selected point on the vertical line intersectsthe base line diameter, the pressure drop shown on the verticalaxis corresponding to the point of intersection.

TEMPERATUREWhen the flexible needs to operate at temperatures above 20 °,a correction factor must therefore be multiplied by the givenoperating pressure for the hose selected.
The factors stainless steel tubing are given in the adjacent table, the following example shows the calculations to be made so thatthe flexible tubing that is necessary to operate at elevatedtemperatures.
EXAMPLEThey need a flexible stainless steel tube of 40 mm.inside diameter drive fluid at a working pressureof 17 bar and a temperature of 300ºC.
The maximum operating pressure at 20ºC for asingle twisted layer ref.UB40-01 is 34 bar.
As the accompanying table, the minimum workingpressure at 300ºC = 34x0, 61 = 20.74 bar. The hoseselected is therefore appropriate for theapplication.
CARBON STEEL ACCESSORIESAccessories-carbon steel ends SHOULD NOT USEDbelow -20ºC or above 400ºC.

OPERATING PRESSUREOperating pressures are mentioned for fluid temperatures of 20° C.
Higher fluid temperatures will result in a lower operatingpressure. These modified operating pressures can be calculatedusing the corresponding temperature correction table.
PRESSURE TESTTo avoid distortion of the flexible tube is convoluted, themaximum test pressures mentioned in this report should not beexceeded.
HOSE MATERIAL LAYER AND TWISTEDThe hoses are usually supplied in Stainless Steel Grade 321 S31
(material No. 1.4541). The layer of braided material is normallysupplied in Grade 304 S11 (material No. 1.4301).
For specific applications, there arehoses and braided layers of Grade
316 S11 (material No. 1.4404).
MATERIALS TESTINGAll hose assemblies arehydraulically tested beforebeing shipped. Ifnecessary, a check is madeby air or gas air underwater.
They provide materialtest certificates andwhere specifically required
at the time of ordering.
END-FITTINGS FLEXIBLETUBES

In order to ensure a long life and satisfactory operation of aflexible stainless steel pipe should be installed in the right way.The main cause of failure or damage is fatigue in theconvolutions. To minimize this, the hose should be installed asshown.
It should be remembered that all the hoses have a limited lifeand that when used in applications that must pass through thesedangerous chemicals or hot fluids or flammable should bereviewed and verified over and over again at regular intervals.
Many of our clients have seen an advantage through plannedmaintenance, in fact replace the hoses at regular intervals whenused in tough situations.
The hose should not be bent to a radius smaller thanrecommended in the specifications, otherwise it would appearpremature fatigue or damage. Avoid sharp bends near theaccessories.

The torsion or twisting force can damage the stainless steeltubing. To avoid this condition, use an annular flange or joint orrotating plate at one end instead of a rigid connection. Alwaysinstall the hose so that the movement originates in the sameplane as the center line. When the hose is installed, its torsioncan lead to premature failure or breakdown of the hose.
