Update CHAFEA - Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency mandate
• The Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency
(formerly the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers
from July 2008 to December 2013 and Public Health
Executive Agency from 2005) was created on 1 January
2005.
• In 2008, the Agency's mandate was expanded to include
actions in consumer protection and training for safer food. In
December 2013, the Agency's mandate was further extended
until 2024.
• Chafea implements the EU Health Programme, the Consumer
Programme and the Better Training for Safer Food initiative.

• Cost-effective promotion and prevention measures for addressing tobacco, alcohol, unhealthy dietary habits, physical inactivity
• Chronic diseases including cancer; good practices for prevention,
early detection and management, including self-management
• HIV/AIDS, TB and hepatitis; up-take of good practices for
cost- effective prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care
• Legislation on tobacco products advertisement and marketing
• Health information and knowledge system

1. Strengthen the political leadership as an important asset in the fight against HIV/AIDS
2. Address stigma and discrimination, including legal barriers that impede measures to fight HIV/AIDS
3. HIV/AIDS co-infections such as tuberculosis (TB) and viral hepatitis
4. Treatment is effective in preventing HIV transmission, strategic use of treatment, increases the importance of early testing particularly amongst high risk groups.
