What’s Next?

IDB Project

• IDB Loan to improve the tradeperformance and enhance thecompetitiveness of Trinidad and Tobagothrough the strengthening of the SEW

• US$25 million over a 5 year period

Project Objectives

• Optimize and simplify foreign trade andbusiness processes required by key governmentagencies to reduce time and costs

• Improve interoperability among nationalgovernment institutions and with maininternational trading partners

• Modernize the governance and the institutionalframework of the SEW

Update on CARICOM

Results

1. Sharing of lessons learned and good practices

2. Opportunity to discuss stakeholders’ technicalassistance and lending needs

3. Highlighted the role that Trinidad and Tobagocan play in the region as a leader in this areaand a champion for implementing nationalSingle Windows and future interoperability

4. Countries committed to reviewing the OECDindicators on Single Windows, theinteroperability matrix, and to supportingratification and implementation of the WTOagreement on trade facilitation

5. Positioned the Bank as a strong partner both inthe wider Trade Facilitation agenda and in thedesign and execution of national SingleWindows.

Single Window Status

• The Bahamas, Barbados and Jamaica are allmoving forward with support from IDB Bank

• Trinidad and Tobago is also developing a programwith the IDB for a next iteration of its Single Window

• Guyana, Suriname and Belize have not yet initiatedthe design of their national Single Windows butremain interested and will reach out to the Bankwhen they are ready to begin

T&T Leadership Role

• Development of a regional legal framework in theCaribbean for interoperability

• Provision to allow cross-border electronic exchangeof data in bilateral and regional agreements inorder to realize interoperability

• Proposal to create a Single Window TechnicalWorking Group at the level of the CustomsCommittee of COTED

Other TFA Provisions

• At the 11 June 2015 meeting of the WTO’s PreparatoryCommittee on Trade Facilitation (PCTF), new Category Anotifications were received from Dominica, St. Kitts andNevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua andBarbuda, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago
