The data reveals that in 1946 a large earthquake shook the remote, steel-reinforced concrete Scotch Cap lighthouse which stood

about 100 feet above the North Pacific Ocean.

Minutes later a huge wave wiped out the lighthouse, leaving practically no trace of the five Coast Guardsmen inside.

Five hours later, additional data about the geologic events showed that the powerful wave that destroyed the Scotch Cap lighthouse rolled across the Pacific Ocean heading towards Hilo, Hawaii.

When the tsunami finally diminished, the waterfront of Hilo was completely destroyed and over 150 people had died. This is just one example of the destruction caused by tsunamis.
