MEDIA LAW

Freedom of the media is indeed an integral part of the freedom of expression and is an essentialrequisite of a demorati set up. !he "ndian #onstitution has granted this freedom $y way of

Fundamental Rights. !he media, whih is o$ligated to respet the rights of the individuals, is also

o$ligated to wor% within the framewor% of legal priniples and statutes.

!he "ndian #onstitution does not provide freedom for media separately. &ut there is an indiret

provision for media freedom. "t gets derived from 'rtile ()*(+ *a+. !his 'rtile guarantees freedom

of speeh and expression. !he freedom of mass media is derived indiretly from this 'rtile. 'rtile

() of our #onstitution deals with the right to freedom and it enumerates ertain rights regarding

individual freedom of speeh and expression et. !hese provisions are important and vital, whih lie

at the very root of li$erty.

WHYMEDIALAW?ith the advent of mass media ommuniation systems in the -(st entury, there has $een growing

interest within and outside the legal fraternity to regulate vast variety of legal inidents reated

thereof. !he need of the hour is a omprehensive periodial to $e irulated in this fraternity that

deals with ontemporary issues with legal and tehnial expertise. RMLNLUs first !opi /peifi

0ournal is the appropriate forum to launh this resoure. !o that end, the RM#1L0 shall strive to

enourage papers with an emphasis on the media2s influene on trials, paid advertisements,

manipulation of law $y the media, orporate law and the media, the influene of the media on the

implementation of law, international media portrayal of law, law glo$ali3ation and media, and other

relevant issues.

"n addition, the RM#1L0 supplements !he RMLNLU4/## 5nline "nternational Media Law Moot

#ourt #ompetition in pioneering meaningful researh in Media Law. !his onsolidation highlights

RMLNLUs role in leading "ndian legal researh in nihe areas. "t may lead to the rystalli3ation of
