Today, most of the teenagers and young adults tend to live a much more healthier lifestyle; thus going to gym became more of an essential lifestyle than a hard choice. In the next pages you’ll find plans and reasons why staying fit now is better than staying fit later.

Page 18: Tsada Magazine Issue No. 2i

People seem to have a difficult time keeping it up with their own fitness or exercise routines. Especially at this time of the year, when people will eventually resolve to excercise in the following year with the hashtag “ABetterMeNextYear”. Why wait next year?

November probably is the start of the pigging out months as the Holidays is fastly approaching. Not only that it is fastly approaching, groceries are also piling up and filling up their storages because they

know this time of the year... YOU will surely eat most.

Despite the common knowledge of the benefits of keeping fit and healthy. In addition to weight loss excecise has been linked to reduce symptoms of depression and risks of having a heart disease. Yet the temptation of sitting on the couch and watching TV instead of going out for a jog is just too great.

Well, get your ass of that couch now and turn that television off. Make this

motivation your mantra to excercise, “I’m seeing my relatives, I don’t want to be the roasted pig with an apple on the table”. Funny it may seem, but start with that.

Lack of motivation and dedication to a workout plan significally impacts results. As last new year, you also said the same thing that you are going to have a better you, what happens to all that motivation? So how do you maintain your motivation in order to see results?

Page 19: Tsada Magazine Issue No. 2i

Here are some tips.

1. HAVE A GYM BUDDY

This one is painfully obvious. Having a gym buddy holds you responsible because it forces you to answer to someone when you want to skip working out because it’s raining or because you had a really bad day. Having a partner can help keep you on track. Spice up the relationship by adding a little work out competition: race each other on the treadmill or MAKE A BET as to who can lose 5 pounds first. Competition is great fuel for motivation!

MAKE HER WANT TO SWEAT.

If you are in relationship, why not try to motivate your partner to go with you, as your gym buddy, to the gym. Not only you have a perfect gym buddy, but as well as, a perfect motivation to really stay focus. Make the gyming session together a regular date.

A small caveat: make sure your gym buddy has similar fitness goals and is equally committed to obtaining those goals for maximum effectiveness. A gym buddy who has more excuses than you for not working out is not going to be too helpful.

2. SET SMALL GOALS

Set smaller, obtainable goals as you work towards your overall goal. Setting small, training goals helps create a sense of accomplishment that will encourage you to keep going.

3. FITSPO

(Fitspo means fit inspiration)

Keep yourself inspired. Years ago, for fitness inspiration, people cut out pictures of

models from magazines and taped them to the refrigerator. Now, Instagram and pinterest are great resources for motivational sayings, before and after photos of other people’s weight loss journeys, meal plans, recipes and creative workout routines. Follow several so that they regularly come up on your newsfeed. Use blogluvin to follow health and wellness blogs (follow us too!) The more you engross yourself in the healthy lifestyle, the more inspired you will be.

4. PLAN YOUR MEAL

The saying “abs are made in the kitchen,” is 100% correct. Many fitness experts argue that what you eat is more important than how far you can run or how many reps you can do. The problem is, it is not easy to eat healthy on the run. There are very few genuinely healthy fast food or vending machine options. So what’s the answer? Meal plan and meal prep. Plan your meals out for the week – including breakfast, lunch, dinner and even your between-meal snacks. By planning out your meals for the week, you are in complete control of portion size and caloric intake. It is also helpful to prep your food for the week so that you never are too tired to cook, procrastinate or run out of time. Set some time on Sundays to prepare food for the week, divide it up into containers, and then grab and go.

PUSH FOR FRUIT

You can never go wrong going for fibrous, low-calorie fruits, especially when they are eaten along with a balanced mea of vegetables, whole grain carbs, and lean protein. Snacking on apples, pears, watermelons, melons, grapefruit, oranges and pineapple ward of enscheduled hunger pangs and sugar cravings.

Page 20: Tsada Magazine Issue No. 2i

5. BE NARCISSISTIC

It’s time to have a selfie picture to measure your progress. Don’t be afraid to take your clothes off for these photos, you want to be able to see how you are progressing. Worried about someone getting their hands on the photos? There are a number of free apps that will keep your private photos private and require a password to access. My Media is one we like.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF MIRRORS Accoring to Kathleen Martin Ginis of McMaster University in Ontario Canada, exercising face-to-face with ones reflection walk away feeling less energized, less relaxed, and less good about themselves than those who work out without mirrors to gaze at. Mirrors affects even those who are already happy with their bodies.

6. REWARD YOURSELF

The psychological concept of positive reinforcement states that we are more likely to

NO PUNCHING BAG AT HOME? TRY...

SHADOWBOXINGYou don’t actually need any equipment to do this. Shadowboxing is a full-body workout, because you use your hands, your core, and if you add knees into it even the lower body can be toned.

Start with by throwing simple jab-straight combination, moving to the side each time you throw a combo. Remember to keep your hands up and rotate your hips with each punch.

Then try a bit challenging by throwing a simple jab-straight combination, alternately raising your left and right knee after each combo.

Do these for 10 minutes each with a one minute rest in between each set.

repeat behaviors that lead to positive outcomes. Use this to your benefit at the gym: do your workout, and then reward yourself – not with cake - but with a manicure on the way home or with an extra good PROTEIN SHAKE at the gym.

7. MAINTIAN OVERALL HEALTH

Work on committing to and maintaining overall health so that the benefits of a healthy lifestyle are that much more apparent. Eat better,

sleep better and watch your alcohol intake. Most people start to lose motivation for the gym because they do not see results. A good fitness plan combined with a good overall lifestyle should have you start looking and feeling better pretty quickly - and once you start seeing and feeling differently, intrinsic motivation to maintain it will increase.

#1 WIDE GRIP

This is a classic push up that is harder than the standard push up because you have less leverage to push yourself up, but it’s a darn good variation. Try starting out with the wide grip push up, then bringing your hands closer in as you go along. In addition, be sure to keep your hands below the plane of your shoulders, and make sure your elbows to not flare out too much. This will help keep the stimulation on your chest, shoulders, and triceps, as opposed to mostly your shoulders.

#2 DIAMOND

The diamond push up targets your triceps more than any other push up. Like the decline push up, this push up can put a lot of pressure on your wrists. In addition, It can put pressure on your shoulders and elbows. Never do this push up for the preceding reasons, but you might want to include it because people who do diamond push ups all the time and swear by the benefits.

WE NOMINATE YOU TO DO THE 10 PUSH UP VARIATIONS CHALLENGE!!!

Here are 10 push-up variations that range from medim difficulty, to very difficult, listed by BUILT LEAN.

22 | www.tsadamag.com

Page 23: Tsada Magazine Issue No. 2i

#3 FRONT CLAP

This is the basic military type of push up where you forcefully push your body off the ground so that you clap your hand in front of your body, then go back to the push up position. This push up you can do routinely and will help engage your muscle fibers in your chest, along with help you create more pushing explosiveness.

#4 BEHIND THE BACK-CLAP

This push up probably makes a better party

trick than actual push up you would use, but it does require pretty strong explosiveness, much more than the front clap push up. This is the ultimate plyometric push up, and ideally you should try doing it continuously. Do this on a soft surface to prevent injuries.

#5 THE T PUSH UP

Use T-Pushups as a warm up all the time to help get your shoulders warm and also your core with the twisting motion.

LOOK GOOD, EVEN BETTER AND YOUNGER.The need to look good can be the biggest barrier to weight loss. Negative body image can heighten your social anxiety, making you unwilling to go to the gyms, do excercise, or wear sporty or workout clothes, says Journal of Sport Behavior.

Looking good is a self-choice that conforms with the society’s ideals and norms towards what you should be. But, there are things you can do to look good and stay fit at the same time. Well make your vanity your motivation but never the main reason.

We’re still searching for the fountain of youth so here’s some tips on how to look good, even better and younger.

1. STYLE RIGHTThrow all the baggy and ill fitting clothes back to the chest where they belong. But this doesn’t mean you’ll jjoin the slim fit craze. Style with clothes that will make you body-type flatter because it gives you a more modern and updated look.

2. CUT IT SHORTOr even shave it off. Groom yourself by staying clean cut than having excessive facial hair. You’re not a monkey nor a goat, for heaven’s sake. Why keep them? The more clean cut you are, the more you look good and even younger. Get your long hair a trim, ideally every three weeks or if you like it short try going to the barber every two weeks. Shave and having a haircut regularly, simple as that.

3. EXCERCISE “REGULARLY”You really don’t need to argue and say you can’t afford going to the gym; because you can do some excercise even when you’re at home, regardless of having gym equipments or not, as long as you are motivated to excercise, look good and live a healthier lifestyle and life.

#6 ONE ARM

The trick to doing one arm push ups is (1) be really strong compared to your weight and (2) keep your legs as wide as possible for a stable base. We’ve seen some people align the hand that is pushing almost perpendicular to the body, whereas doing it with your hands in a normal push up position. Make sure your shoulders are thoroughly warmed up before trying this push up. It puts A LOT of strain on your shoulders and elbows.

#7 DECLINE

Be careful with your wrists when doing the decline push up, which is a more advanced version of the normal push up with a greater range of motion. Try doing this by putting your feet up a couple stairs in your home.

#8 INCLINE

The incline push up should really be done against a wider bench, or even against the bar on a SMITH MACHINE that is set to a couple feet off the ground. The lower the incline, the harder the push up. The emphasis is on your shoulders during this push up and it’s easier than a standard on the ground push up.

#9 KNUCKLES

Knuckle pushups can be helpful if you have problems with your wrists as flexible as your wrist is in a neutral position during this variation. Place your hands on the ground in a closed fist with the knuckles facing down.

#10 UNSTABLE SURFACE

You can use unstable surfaces to complicate the standard pushup. A stability ball, medicine ball, balance disc or cushion can be used to create an unstable surface. Place the unstable surface between the floor and your hands or between the floor and your feet.

Born in Manila, Coach Noel Villa moved to UK at the aged of 8 where he learned to love sports and fitness. He graduated with a degree in Sports and Science in Kingston University and acquired the knowledge and principles in sports and particular programs that will help enhance athletes on their particular fields.

From UK he moved back in the Philippines and decided to live in Cagayan de Oro City. He was jogging around

Coach Noel’s commitment to start teaching about Rugby flourished. Rugby, as a sport, is a good way to lose weight. This gave him the idea to open it for kids and teenagers as well, especially to those who are willing to train with him. To invite more people to play the game, he doesn’t give any charges nor asked training fees. “I am doing it for free, no charges [and] no training fees”. Anyone can play the sports, he said. It just depends on the athlete’s personal background and commitment to the sport.

Coach Noel believes that teaching these kids to play the sport for free will encourage them to go out and meet new friends aside from the benefits of having a healthy lifestyle. “Not I only play the

sports, but also teaching someone to live a better lifestyle.”

Kids nowadays are rarely seen playing outside. Most of them spend time inside the house playing video games of watching television. This is one of the reasons why Coach Noel introduced the Modified Rugby Football. The rules are easy you just need to touch the ball or capture the flag that’s tied up around each player. The touching of the ball or the capturing of the flag is the equivalent of tackle.

Joing their group is easy. For those who wants to learn the to play Rugby, Just come to Pelaez Sports Complex during their practices or message Coach Noel on Facebook through this link:

HEART OF GOLD

Puerto de Oro while tossing with him an oval ball, used in Rugby. People got a little curious and asked him about the egg shaped ball. “I know that know that no one else play rugby here”, he shared. “So maybe I can start it up”. He started the movement to develop Cagayan de Oro Rugby Football Club, now also known as the Rafters.

Not only that Coach Noel taught his team how to play the sport, he also taught his guys how to use the sport as a venue to teach kids and themselves to help others. In fact, their team have feeding progams, free rugby football trainings in schools, and blood letting.

Definitely not the brutal sport in your mind, Rugby Football is far different compared to American Football. With Coach Noel Villa with it, it’s more than just a sport but also a charitable learning experience.

Dragonbotas are human -powered watercrafts used on a paddling festival race. It rooted 20 centuries ago in Southern China basing on a festival held during the Summer Solstice. These boats are rigged with Chinese Dragon heads and tails, and usually made from thick wood.

In China, dragons symbolizes power; traditionally, it’s believed as rulers of the waters of the earth (rivers, lakes, seas) and waters of the heavens (rain, mists, clouds).

Modern Dragonboat racing events are not actually considered as a sport rather as a festival race with a sprint event that covers several meters. The first modern dragonboat race was observed in Hong Kong in 1976. From there westerners have adopted the concept of the event and without knowledge of its true symbolism they called it the “Dragon Boat Festival”

In the Philippines, dragonboats are used as a physical activity and campaign. On a concept paper entitled “Bugsay Alang sa Bulawanong Paghigalaay” by Rev. Fr. Chito Butardo, Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs of the Father Saturnino Urios University [FSUU], he invited fellow Jesuit communities in Cagayan de Oro - Xavier University and Davao City - Ateneo de Davao University to come-up with events encouraging colleges and universities to join a dragonboat event to promote the protection of the rivers criscrossing the island of Mindanao: Agusan River, Cagayan River and Davao River. Fr. Butardo also added that Fr. Joel Tabora, University President of the Ateneo de Davao University, responded on

means of creating the Festival Race event as a way on creating peace campaigns in unification of the new Bangsamoro state in Mindanao.

EMERGING DRAGONS OF MINDANAO

In July 2012, FSUU debuts the FSUU Blue Dragons. Coined as the first dragonboat team established in Mindanao. At almost the same time of the year, Mayor Macapodi of Marawi City introduced the racing event in Lanao that gave birth to the Team Naga.

In June 2013, a small fishing community in Baranggay Galipuga, in Iligan City, initiated the Bakunawa Dragonboat Team. They’re team are

composed of out-of-school youth where most of them were also fishermen.

In April 2014, Team Minokawa was established in Davao City. The team is composed by athletes from different sports invited by the local government for the upcoming dragonboat festival event in Davao on May 1, 2014.

In September 2014, Liceo University launched Misamis Oriental’s first dragonboat team the Liceo University Dragonoid. Their debut on the Cagayan River was joined by the FSUU Blue Dragons and the Bakunawa Dragon Boat Team.

Long, elongated and yellow. Yes, Yes, and Again YES! It’s the Banana!

We listed several fun facts about this very silly looking thing called Banana; and some of these facts might just destroy your entire childhood.

#1 BANANA TREE IS NOT A TREE

Bananas don’t grow on trees. Rather, they grow from a root structure that produces an above ground system. The plant is specifically classified as an absorescent perennial herb. It is the largest herbaceous flowering plant in the World. [todayifoundout]

#2 BANANA HERB IS A BERRY

As interesting as it is a herb, a banana plant, the banana itself, is actually a berry. [wikipedia]

#3 BANANAS ARE RICH

Bananas are one of the healthier natrual food sources in the world, ounce for ounce. They countain almost no fat; are very low in calories; and are high in vitamin B6, fiber & potassium. They also contain decent amounts of phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, copper, selenium, Vitamins -A, B1, B2, C, E, K Niacin and Pantothenic Acid. According to the FDA, eating bananas can lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as decrease you risk of getting cancer. See Nutrition Facts diagram. [FDA]

by Dawn Villahermosa

Page 35: Tsada Magazine Issue No. 2i

#4 BANANAS ARE RADIOACTIVE

Bananas are naturally radioactive. This comes from the fact that they contain relatively high amounts of potassium. Specifically, they contain Potassium-40, which is a radioactive isotope of potassium. [todayifoundout]

#5 PMS?

Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood. Eating a banana can cheer you up! Bananas are the only fruit to contain the amino acid, tryptophan plus Vitamin B6, which together help the body produce seratonin - the natural chemical which alleviates mental depression.

#6 BE FIT WITH IT

Bananas are great for athletic and fitness activity because they replenish necessary carbohydrates, glycogen and body fluids burined during excercise. [corsinet]

#7 FINGER...S

The word ‘banan’ is Arabic for finger; thus a piece of banana is called a finger; plural is fingers; and an entire cluster which consists of 10 to 20 fingers is called a hand. [corsinet]

#8 SAGING REPABLIK OPENS IN DAVAO

Saging Repablik has been the talk of the town since the day it opened, located at Tionko

Avenue Corner V. Mapa Street, Davao City. They set the bar higher for the Davao Dining, from the interiors and up to their menu -- they all did it the unconventional way. The moment you step foot on their premise, you’ll be greeted with the warm and cool rustic industrial interior. It’s a two story, with a high ceiling and large space. On the first floor you’ll see the counter and the very popular “create your own bananacue” station, and on its left corner is the merchandise store where you can shop statement shirts, pull-overs, bags, mugs and charms. On the second floor is the extension of the dining place, that can also be reserved for private parties, meetings and intimate gatherings. For the

menu - their dishes were incorporated with bananas which is extraordinary not only in Davao but in the whole country. Their meals are delectable and the desserts are delightful.

Meals: Chicken cordon bleu, sisag (sisig and saging), humbanana Cue (Humba and Banana Cue), orange walnut chicken, afrinana (afritada banana), Chickenanapops, Pochero Con Saba

Dessert: Banana Cue Cream Pie, Toronutella, Linginging, Frosted Double Gatchocolatto

Those are just some of the new dishes released recently and it was all in all impressive. And knowing the creativity of the people behind Saging Repablik, I wouldn’t be surprised to see new dishes in no time. They’re definitely on top of their game.Follow them at instagram @sagingrepablik

Currently studying Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Nicco, as most friends call him, is also a young print-ad and ramp model of Gaisano Malls, a member of the Cagayan de Oro Talent Center. He dreams of becoming a

successful businessman someday and one of the leading entrepreneurs in the Philippines. “But if all else fails, become an artist or an actor” he said.

It was really his interest to join the Cagayan de Oro

Talent Center, CDO-TC, because it might just be his very first big step towards making it to the modeling and talent industry. It was him, Ken and Koby who really wanted to join the group together. In CDO-TC he learned the fundamentals of being a model, and what to do when he is in the runway. The group also taught him to become a humble person while still being awesome on the things he does.

As a model he looks forward to be endorsing major fashion brands in the Philippines like Bench and Penshoppe.”It may be really, and I mean really, hard to reach; but then again, nothing is impossible”.

What characteristics of a girl attract you?

The first characteristic that I would really be attracted to a girl is her beautiful eyes. I [also] prefer beautiful and wholesome girls, these type of girls are really the ones to look forward too.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Koby is a first year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy student at the Xavier University. He joined CDO-TC with his friends Ken and Nicco, to enhance and develop his self confidence and to become a model. He is one of the most adorable guys among the Elite Members of the CDO-TC, just look at the way he smiles – Baby Face. He is a bit bubbly and loves to play around but he looks great in photos. According to him, CDO-TC helped him to develop time management, self confidence, and learned to become a responsible. The group also helped him enhance his knowledge on how to walk on stage and overcome stage fear.

He’s probably the tallest male elite model in the group. Wilrin, or Rin, is a 3rd Year Psychology Student at the Xavier University. His mom was the reason why he joined CDO-TC “Naa daw koi potential, Nganung dile tistingan kong wala man galing mawala. [They said I have the Potential. I will not lose anything if I try]”. He never dreams of becoming a model, but he is loving the stage so far. Asked about his modeling plans, he said he has none, “I am just focusing what is given to me and accept the blessings that will come”, he said,

What characteristics of a girl you are attracted first?

Wew,[laughs] She must be a God-fearing, Polite, Smart, Kind, Lovable, And most especially, Understanding.

Currently Studying BS Accountancy at the Xavier University, Ken dreams of becoming a registered CPA, aswell as a celebrity someday. When he heard about CDO-TC from Christian Tedlos, he never had second thoughts on joining. He together with his friends, Nicco Sanchez and Koby Gallamaso, entered CDO-TC at the same time. CDO-TC opened a lot of doors for him. The exposure the center gave him made him more confident as a person and as a talent. Recently. Ken joined Starstruck, a talent search by the Kapuso Network, and waits for callback.

Describe your Ideal Date/Dream Date:

Well my ideal date is someone that would

keep me staring at her forgetting whats around us and I will only focus on her. Not because of her physical attributes but the inner beauty she is carrying. Someone that can manafe to make me smile no matter what (smiles)

What characteristics of a girl you are attracted first?

Hmmm. A girl that has a good attitude, “mañahon”, understanding and caring

Ralph is the youngest guy in the batch. He’s currently in Grade 9 and studying at the Mary Child School. He is the son of CDO-TC’s official photographer Sir Raphy Arcaina. Not surprising that his parents were the ones who encouraged him to join the group. He dreams of becoming a Math Teacher and joing CDO-TC is helping him gain more self confidence. As a model, he dreams to work with different designers.

What characteristics of a girl you are attracted first? Her eyes.

Who is your celebrity Teen crush? Kathryn Bernardo

He might not be as young as he looks, but this charmer is one of the designers’ favorite among the group. He currently a freshman student and studies Mechanical Engineering at the Mindanao University of Science and Technology.

If you ask him two years ago if what he wanted to be, he’d probably say he wants to pursue his sports basketball and become a professional player. He’s been part of the basketball varsity since gradeschool. Things went wrong and his basketball career ended. It must have been a twist of faith now, he dreams to become a professional model aside from finishing studies and becoming an Engineer.

Sarangani Province is rich in marine resources, they’re known as a great diving spot and a hotspot for beach parties, but

more than that there lays an adventure we need to get off on our bucket list – I’m talking about the Paragliding Adventure.

We stayed at Sarangani Highlands Garden, but if you’re a backpacker or on a tight budget I suggest you stay at the tent city, it’s also a one good addition for adventure seekers. The flying site is located at Saffi Ranch-1 Maasim Sarangani Province. We were up as early as 6 a.m. and headed to the flying site around 7 a.m.

As we arrived at the entrance of the Saffi

Ranch, there was a 4x4 minivan waiting for us. From there we were brought to the first station, it is where the landing spot is located. We rested for a while in a cottage and had a mini meet and greet with the Pilots. We were greeted

with all smiles by the three Tandem Pilots Titoy, Carlaa and Joseph. There were very friendly, accommodating and professional.

After the meet and greet they immediately oriented us with the key points in flying which I’ll be telling you as well in the latter part. As we were all set, we right away head to the flying station located at top of the mountain. We rode the van, passed by the crooked, steep, bumpy road – it was like the foreplay part or the excitement phase before the orgasmic release of the adrenaline haha.

After the 8 minutes ride, at last we already arrived at the flying site. My tandem Pilot was Sir. Carlaa (don’t be confused he’s a guy haha). We then suited up; as he was securing the gears he was also calming my nerves. Though in my case I wasn’t scared, in fact I’m super excited to run off the cliff and fly, the only problem was I have a

petite frame and since we’re up against the direction of the wind the assist pilot had no choice but to drag me upon launching haha.

When we were already soaring the feeling is indescribable. Being up in the air was the best feeling I felt

by far. My eyes can’t describe how beautiful it is to see the things from that angle. I was welcomed by the scenic view of the Sarangani Bay, picturesque terrain of the mountain with mixture of greens and whites brought by the trees, grass and limestone – it was just breathtaking. The air whispering

on my ears, the sun shining all over the place, it was the most magnificent angle one could possible see - stunning.

My tandem Pilot Carlaa was so cool he made my adventure more memorable. He went extreme, from left to right and gone to 360 degrees, he even

offered me to try to maneuver the parachute, which of course I tried to but failed to reach the handles so I l just leave it all the flying aspect part to him haha. We chatted a little bit he encouraged me to shout, then pose from time to time since we have a gopro with us.

During the landing we didn’t hit the white landing bull-eyes spot but nonetheless it was a great landing, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The moment I landed I can’t help

but pose with a double thumbs up, almost all my poses for the photos have double thumbs up which I rarely do, I guess I was really on high. I stayed up there for about 10minutes and I can honestly say it was the best 10minutes of my life.

I went home with a happy heart and bragging rights of course haha. And until now every time I look at the photos watch the video, I still get the same high I had. Indeed an adventure you should never

missed. You’re not getting any younger so run off the cliff and paraglide. Took to you on my next chasing the sun adventure! xoxo
