Floating Love Day of Service

A Young Girl’s JourneyRaising Awareness of Cancer

MLK Day Off Proves to be a Day On

At 13-years-old, many students are concerned about what outfit to wear to school or whether or not to go to the big football game. However, as life has it, there are many students that are either directly or indirectly affected by cancer every day. October 23, 2009 marked the second annual Cancer Walk at Tomlinson Middle School. This event served three extremely important purposes this year: to educate students about cancer, to demonstrate support of those battling cancer, and to raise money for one our own wolves fighting cancer.

This year’s event was a special time to show support for a student, friend, and fellow wolf that has the courage to keep fighting even when times are hard. With many tears shed, the time came to float all positive energy to the sky to demonstrate the love and support that each wolf has for those fighting cancer.

Dear Son With Love To Mother:My precious son; my heart aches at all you are going

through,

If I could take your pain away I would.

My dear mom; my heart aches at all you are going through,

If I could take your pain away I would.

My precious son; I wish I could protect you from words like

Cancer, chemo, and complete blood counts.

My dear mom; I wish I could protect you from words like

Cancer, chemo and complete blood counts.

My precious son; as I watch you struggle to be brave,

My heart swells with pride and love for you.

My dear mom; as I watch you struggle to be brave,

My heart swells with pride and love for you.

My precious son, I will be by your side every moment,

We will walk through this trial together.

My dear mom, I will be by your side every moment,

We will walk through this trial together.

My precious son, may God grant you the peace that passes all understanding;

Remember His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness.

My dear mom, may God grant you the peace that passes all understanding;

Remember His mercies are new every morning and great is His faithfulness.

Most students plan to sleep in on their days off from school; however, this year there were many students, teachers, and administrators from Tomlin-son participating in the MLK Day of Service in conjunction with Cameron University. The students worked diligently at the Salvation Army of Lawton painting and performing many other much needed duties.

Cameron University estimates that over 1,000 hours of com-munity service were completed on this day in order to keep Dr. King’s dream alive of a better community.

KnockoutThe Boxing Match the Gives Back by Ayana LeDay

hAuNTeD: The fear of the unknownby: Maddie Snyder

Halloween. The night of fear and freaks. Some people pass out candy, some people dress up like lunatics and beg to be fed things that cause diabetes, some people put on masks and kill people… and others make haunted houses. It’s only right to balance out the trick-or-treat.

The Tomlinson Creativity Club made a haunted house that scared everyone who entered. At first, every member questioned wether or not this would be a suc-cess. The leader in charge, J. Prince, was a mess trying to successfully complete the most death-defying, circus-freak worthy haunted house. The night of the haunted house was glorious. Everyone dressed up to scare, as dead little girls and evil doctor clowns galore.

The Haunted House was pulled off in a scattered manner, ending in the scare no one would ever forget. Even though some members of the Haunted House have moved or transferred, the memories of the Haunted House are forever fresh, thanks to Miss Prince, the Creativity Club, teachers, and the fear of the unknown.

FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!!

Most of the time when these words are being yelled out by students teachers and administrators cringe.- NOT THIS TIME! Head Custo-dian, Jose Guadar-rama introduced a new community outlet called Mad Men Boxing Club for students in the Law-ton Community.

This program is free to those needing to get off the streets. The main mission is to provide a positive training for students to learn boxing techniques and to compete in matches across the nation.

If you weren’t there, you should have been because not only were the matches interesting, the guys were HOTT! Although this exhibition focused mainly on introducing students to basic boxing concepts, it was still intriguing to see all the hard work that goes into a good fight. The ages range, but it was nice to see people our ages like 9th graders, Juan and Angelo Gonzales, learning a new skill in self discipline.

Inside the Mind of a WolfBlog by TMS Football Player Rashun Garner

Football is the best sport ever! Plus, at TMS, we are the best team in Lawton. We are 16-0 and haven’t been beat by anyone for two years straight. It feels really good beating IKE this year they talked so much crapp, and we blew them out by three touchdowns. We also beat a really good team from Texas 30-0. They were really surprised. They under estimated us because of our size, but we were way more physical than they were. We were beating them up the whole game. I remember when we were in Altus we had a big fight with them, which was fun- haha. I love football and am gonna miss it. I can’t wait until we get to Lawton High. Hopefully, we can keep our winning ways. I’m gonna be lifting weights all summer long. I hope it improves my playing and that I get stronger and faster. Well that’s that. Bye.

contBehind the Minds of Undefeated Champs by Tierra Acree

At the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, many people anticipated the pos-sibilities of the Tomlinson Sports program. Accalades must be paid to all sports for their hard work and dedication. Despite the numerous victories in many areas, the TMS Football team lead by Coach Burke proved to be an unstoppable force as they extended their undefeated season from the 2008-2009 school year to this year as well.

So I got together with a few football players and learned a lot about them. All of them had something in common, though. Their favorite teacher is Coach Burk. Limbergh Car-ey, Isiah Ervin, Jt. Pratt, Casey Nadeau, Brandon Mullins, and Joey Zazueta all answered without hesitation that he is their favorite teacher. Apparently everyone his coaching.

Teenage PregnancyTeen Mom

Opinion piece by Kelsee Smith

How can a person be a student, daughter, teenager, friend, and mother at the same time? With just the pressure of being a teenager it seems like this would be too much to handle. However, as seen on MTV there is a growing trend of teenage pregnancies across the nation after previous years of decline. With hit shows like Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant, the channel has captured some of the realities of motherhood.

Ms. Sonya Houtz, Life Skills teacher at Tomlinson Middle School, works with stu-dents each semester to help give a realistic view of parenthood. One day last semester I had a chance to take home a realistic baby simulator, for one night and one night only, THANK GOODNESS! The baby girl, or Kelli Anne as I named her, cried, fussed, and screamed because, like a any real newborn, Kelli needed to be fed, burped, changed, and rocked. Trust me, Kelli never once hesitated to cry the silence away at all hours of the night for her needs. While pregnancy is a beautiful…beautiful thing, it is not for me, or any other teen for that matter.

Teenage Pregnancy continued

My Worst Day Ever

By Alicia Monroe

May 21, 2009 is the reason I’ll never have children. It started when Mrs. Houtz

let us take a simulated baby home. The baby looked just like a little baby girl.

The baby started crying as soon as I steeped into the door. The baby cries

made my neighbors dogs howl. Then the bracelet would not work so I just sat

there wanting to cry along with it!

The wails of her cries reached from sea to shining sea, I would rather be

stuck on a roller coaster for a year, and I am VERY SCARED of them. The wails

were train whistles, cars honking and extremely annoying crickets at night.

The baby would wake me up at 1 a.m. and cry for hours and I had to keep wak-

ing up every 15 minutes. I’m ready to pull out all my hair from my head by 2

a.m.

I woke up at 7 a.m. rolled out of bed with bags under my eyes and clothes still

on from yesterday. Half asleep almost drowned in the shower, toothpaste all

over my face. It took me forever and a day to find my glasses so I was blind

most of the morning and when all of this is going on the baby is quiet as can

be. I wanted to hit that baby wham! Repeatedly.

Then finally I ran to Mrs. Houtz room and as soon as she cut off the bracelet, I

couldn’t help but yell out, “I’m free whoohoo!” The best part was I got a 100%

for surviving the pain and suffering of the baby’s crying. The worst part I can

still hear the echo of her crying in my head.

Single...Teen...Father: A Novel that Focuses on Teen Parenting

By Ayanna LeDay

In society, there are many people who focus on single parent homes. Normally, they are talking about young women left by a man to take care of a child they both created. However,

in The First Part Last by Angela Johnson, Bobby, a sixteen-year-old, is left to care for his child all by himself. This page-turner is a must read for students wanted to know the reali-

ties of teenage parenthood.

Sweat-er Sets

with cute jeans

Fashion and Beauty at TMS

Sweater sets with cute jeans and warm boots are always en

vogue for fall and winter fashions as

seen by these various looks from JC Pen-ney in Central Mall. All for a resonible price, students can dress comfortably and express their individual styles.

Page 13: True Wolf Magazine

The fashion that we express here at Tomlinson promotes our individualism. There are many differ-ent personalities that result in an insightful design

of fashion. There are numerous styles here that we have for the short, tall, skinny, and the thick ones. Color coordination is everything in an outfit and

students seem to be doing the best on that subject. For those of you who think that we are just plain

and simple then I strongly suggest that you get a real glimpse of what Tomlinson is really rocking in the new

year.

For the guys roaming the halls of TMS, there are always ways to stay warm

and still keep your swagger. Try a printed hoodie with

print T’s underneath.

To Achieve These Looks

Since teens are dealing with hormones and other issues…try a mineral makeup or tinted moisturizer for a boost to your complexion without

clogging your pores.

Less is More!!! Wear natural looking makeup to school. For makeup that accents your eyes, try Cover Girl’s Exact Eyelights. Although, when more glamour is needed, easily accent your eyes with a liner like Maybeline’s Colossal Lashes Volume Express and Eye Expert liner or funky colors.

For a naturally luscious lip cover try Victoria Secrets Beauty Rush

Lip gloss.

By day…the natural look is what it is all

about. No matter what complexion you are… KEEP IT SIMPLE. However, at after

school events try to glam up the eyes like

Kim Kardashian pictured below (courtesy of

blogspot.com).

Dos and Don’tsDon’t cake on makeup over blemishes. Work on your complexion first and use light coverage to help boost

your complexion.

Do use plenty of moisturizer. With frigid winter weather it is a must.

Don’t hide your best attributes with too much make-up.

Do accentuate your best features with subtle tints and hues.

Movie Reviews

I Love You Beth Cooperdirected by Chris Columbus

Harley Jacks

If you ever get the chance to get away from your parents and sneak out to watch a movie , go see ‘’I Love You Beth Cooper.’’ This movie is rocking. It has a lot of humor and silliness. It is filled with some fight-ing for you goys that likes fights. If you like the life of

high school (even though your not there yet) this is all about it. At the beginning this geek makes a very touching speech and guts up to the whole school and says “’ I love you Beth cooper.’’

I though that t was the most interesting part of the whole movie. Well there was a lot of interesting parts through out the whole movie. Before he was going to say this he was thinking how it was his last chance to tell her. Beth is the most popular girl in her grade. Beth thought that was cute so she goes to his party. Her friends and Devin’s friend was there. No one else.

Now that was embarrassing. That comes to a point. Just think, have you ever come to a point to where you were embarrassing. Well this movie is filled with embarrassing moments .

The Lost Symbol By Dan Brown

Review by Michael ReckleinThe Lost Symbol is a great action book with unex-pected twist and turns. This is a semi factual book with real sciences, arts, and rituals along with a somewhat accurate Masonic history of our nation’s capital. The symbols in this book have unpredict-able meanings because of the symbol, which is a code in different places. This story also continues

the story of Robert Langdon and important peo-ple like the Architect of the Capitol and a scientist from SMSC (Smithsonian Museum Service Center).

Page 25: True Wolf Magazine

Avatar directed by James Cameron

Matt Myers and Gracie James Sullivan

Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine, Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, who finds himself plunged into an alien plant, called Pandora, filled with

exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds him-self torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and

that of the indigenous population of the Navi. This romantic-thriller has many invigorating pieces that come together to create a mind-altering experience.

With many underlying layers and special effects, the movie is an ingenious combination of phenomenal storytelling and special effects.

Blindside directed byMatt Myers

“The Blind Side” tells the story of Michael Oher, a homeless black teen from a ghetto neighborhood, taken in by the Touhys, a goody-goody white family

who will help him fulfill his potential. At the same time, Oher’s presence in the Touhys’ lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own.

Living with the Touhys, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. As a football player and student, Oher works hard and, with the help of his coaches and adopted family, becomes an All-American offensive left tackle for the Ravens. I think this is a must-see film because it puts off a

good message about self discovery.

Dear Wolfie Advice ColumnDear Wolfie,I am loaded down with school work. I feel like I don’t have a life anymore. What can I do?

Hello Loaded Down,

The best thing to do is to try to use your resources wisely. Make sure you use your planner to keep important projects and dates in line. Also, do not be afraid to talk with your teach-ers, coaches, and club sponsors about the feelings you are having. It is important for you to keep them informed so they can provide you with specific information and advice for their classes and/or organizations.

Dear Wolfie,One of my best friends used to like a guy, but now he likes me. Although I have never betrayed our friendship she is acting like our friendship is over. What should I do?

Well Broken BFF,

Sometimes it is hard to deal with rejection. Try to explain to your friend that you have no ill intentions, but if she still won’t budge you might have to give her time to see what a great friend you truly are. Possibly with time, she will see that a guy is not worth losing a best friend.

Dear Wolfie,I have been trying to change my image a bit and now my friends from last year think I’m not being loyal to them. What should I do?

Hey Identity Issues,

Who you are and how you dress are completely different things. If you are still a genuine person, the way you dress shouldn’t matter. Also, this is a time when people go their sepa-rate ways sometimes. If your friends can’t accept you for who you are try working it out with them by telling them why you are changing your image. If that still doesn’t work, try to find friends who will accept you for who you are.

Page 27: True Wolf Magazine

please wake me up by matt myers

My alarm started beeping. Great, I said to myself. Why did I even set that thing? Then I looked over and saw that it was four a.m. What the heck? Who had set it to four? Then suddenly, my bed started to shake growing more violent every second until I was thrown from it. I could barely breathe, and then it stopped just as quickly as it had started. I stared puzzled at my bed. Then a flash of light burst through my window hitting me in the chest. I blacked out. I awoke in my bed nothing changed, no un-made bed, no broken window, and no glass on the floor. Maybe it was just a dream… I thought to myself. I got out of bed, got dressed and went down to breakfast. I smelt bacon, eggs, pancakes... the works. I entered the kitchen, and said hi to my mom and dad. “Hello,” my Mom replied, “how did you sleep?” “Fine, except for this weird dream I had,” I answered. “What happened?” my Dad asked, intrigued. So I told them my dream, they looked at me like I was crazy. Then I heard my mom say, “He has finally lost it!” “Hey that’s not very nice!” I yelled. “What?” she retorted angrily. “I didn’t say anything!” I glared at her angrily and stormed up to my room, where the bed was un-made, the window was broken, and there was glass on the floor!
