Initial situation and goal of Truck Parking Europe

• The number of parking places officially available for lorries in

Europe is some ten thousand less than the number needed.

• Due to limited funding, public authorities are unable to quickly

meet the rising demand.

• Truck Parking Europe aims to make all available parking places

more accessible to drivers and schedulers.

• This includes providing information not only for parking places

directly on motorways, but also for suitable places some distance

away. These include industrial areas, parking spaces along

streets and trucker meeting points.



The solution

• Truck Parking Europe is the largest free European database for

lorry parking. The current database contains over 10,000 parking

places.

• The app is available for drivers to download for free. Use of the

data by drivers is free and will remain free.

• A Europe-wide community, consisting of lorry drivers, car park

operators, the PTV editorial staff and other collaborators,

constantly updates and augments this data.

• Lorry drivers can also rate parking places and share experiences.



Motivation of the PTV Group

• The PTV Group wishes to help drivers, schedulers and public

authorities find solutions to the acute shortage of lorry parking

places in Europe.

• In future the data is intended to be available to schedulers in their

own route planning systems in order to make planning more

reliable.

• The community's parking place master data can also be used by

other providers.

• No external data or external licences – data can be used by

drivers for free with no restrictions or advertising



Quantity versus quality

• After many discussions with lorry drivers, we have selected a

database that ensures the supply of comprehensive parking

place information.

• The aim is to first fashion a platform that allows data for all

parking places for lorries to be captured and made available to

the drivers.

• This data will gradually be refined, with suitable attributes noted

for parking places (e.g. convenience features) by lorry drivers,

PTV editorial staff and collaborators.

parking.

Algorithm for "nearby parking places"

• The distance to the closest parking place is calculated using

individual distance matrices based on PTV technology.

• The indicated distance is the actual driving distance for a lorry.

• This algorithm ensures that recommendations are not given for

inaccessible parking places.

Ensuring data quality

• Unsuitable areas

• Can be reported by drivers; checked by our editorial staff and

deleted if necessary

• Incorrect data

• All entered data is viewed and checked by PTV editorial staff.

We remove spam, inappropriate promotion using ratings,

insults, etc. Users may also be banned if necessary.

• Complaints by municipalities

• In this case we contact the local authorities and check whether

the reported places are legal.

• Search for parking places on the map or by text search

• Radius search for driving distance to the next parking place.

• Entry of new car parks and parking places

• Rating and commenting on parking places

• Eight languages available (DE, EN, FR, NL, PL, ES, IT, CS)

• Check-in for parking places, indication of available space (initially

the number of check-ins)

• Looking for more collaborators

• Linking to available reservation systems

• Linking to available occupancy systems



We also want to make it fun for users

• Drivers collect points for every new parking place, change, rating

or comment accepted in the system, which enable them to rise in

the community ranking.

• Drivers can look forward to terrific promotions and special offers.
