Troup High School Student and Staff Populations

The Troup Independent School District is comprised of 3 campuses: Troup Elementary School,

Troup Middle School, and Troup High School. The school district serves a majority of lower socio-

economic students. Troup ISD serves approximately 1150 students in grades Head-Start through 12th

grade. Troup High School is comprised of grades 9-12. Troup High School serves approximately 320

students. At Troup High School, the organizational structure is departmentalized by subject and grade

level.

The student population is 16.6 % African-American, 73.3% White, 2.3% Asian, 7.8% Hispanic, and

48% low socioeconomic status. The staff population is 5.7% African-American, 3.3% Hispanic, 91%

White. 47.1% male, 52.9% female with an average of 12.1 years of experience.

The mobility rate for Troup High School is 15.4%. The average daily attendance rate is 96%.

COMPREHENSIVE NEEDS ASSESSMENT SUMMARY

Demographics • Hispanic populations are growing,

• Teacher demographics do not mirror student populations.

Student Achievement

• Use benchmarks and progress monitoring test to track progress in all grades as a comparable assessment

• Receive ongoing support for new STAAR test so we do not experience a dip in scores.

School Culture and Climate • Leaders set the tone/attitude of the campus

• Teachers set the tone/attitude of the classrooms

• Consistent and firm guidelines set at the beginning of the year have a direct/positive impact on classroom environment and individual expectations (academic and behavioral)

Staff Quality, Recruitment, and Retention • All certified staff members are highly qualified to teach in their area.

• Feedback to teachers on their performance is provided through walkthrough documentation and PDAS evaluation instrument.

• Teachers are trained to assess, read data, schedule students in groups according to needs, and provided with curriculum to meet the instructional needs of the students.

• Induction year teachers are assigned a campus mentor, district trainings throughout the school year, and the opportunity to observe their peers.

• Teachers who attend professional development, such as ELPS, ESL, and STAAR are expected to share information and train campus or implement it in their classrooms to increase staff and student performance.

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment • Evidence of curriculum being linked to TEKS; include scope and sequence, nine week plans, and weekly lesson plans.

• Progress monitoring and benchmark testing done to provide differentiated instruction and small group Tier II intervention as needed.

• Students who need assistance beyond the classroom are provided with after school tutoring.

Family and Community Involvement • Involve parents in classroom curriculum so that they may continue the support at home.

• Access to multiple support services through community involvement.

School Organization • Teachers would like to have more impact on type of assessments, interventions, and professional development.

• Surveys for parents may be beneficial or other avenues for parents to voice their concerns, opinions, successes, and celebrations.

• To maintain a positive school environment. All students need to be held accountable for positive and safe behavior along with our school expectations. Technology

• The need for additional technology staff development.
