Editor’s note: this conbook was never actually printed and exists largely for the sake of continuity and as a historical document. It is the third one like it and it could be the third of several -- at the time of this writing it is too soon to tell.

Orccon 2021 is cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020-2021. Orccon 2021 is being run as a virtual convention, the third of its kind for Strategicon. As such it is handled in a much different fashion than a normal Strategicon conbook.

WelcomeStrategicon welcomes you to Virtual Orccon 2021. Thank you for joining us.This one isn’t normal by any stretch. Really, this is the third time we’ve done it this way and we hope we do not have to again. Live-Action Pandemic was never the plan, we swear.New to the convention? Well, so are we -- at least in this format. If you have any questions, the convention staff will be glad to assist you.Again, thank you for coming. Enjoy the adventure. We have no idea how this is going to go.

Convention HoursOrccon opens to the public at noon on Friday and closes at 6 pm on Monday. While events such as seminars and tournaments are scheduled, open gaming never closes.

Common Rights of Event OfficialsTo clarify the authority of the judges and event gamemasters (GMs), this convention grants its officials these rights.1. Judges and GMs may modify game rules as necessary by announcement prior to commencement of the event.2. Judges and GMs may adjudicate a winner when time allotted for the completion of the round has elapsed.3. As necessary, judges and GMs may take appropriate action to ensure sportsmanlike play and fairness in the event.4. If an event draws fewer players than the minimum the GM determines is necessary, the convention reserves the right to cancel it.5. Event officials have the right to eject, if deemed necessary, any player from an event.

Event RegistrationYou can register for events on the web site (https://www.strategicon.net/?event_reg) by entering your name on the sign up sheet prior to the event’s scheduled starting time. Some groups have all event sign up sheets available all day and are only removed when that event starts, thus allowing “walk-in” registration.Please arrive at the appropriate Discord channel 10 minutes prior to its scheduled start time and be ready to play.

Late ArrivalsShow up on time for your game events! Even if you’ve registered, if you’re not on time, it’s assumed you’re not going to show up and your place may be given away to someone else.

Gateway 2020 was a success!We got almost 900 attendees -- more than Gamex 2020. So we must have done something right at Gamex. We even managed to keep the Strategicon Football League going.

Orccon 2021 Lives!At least in a manner of speaking. No one is pretending a virtual convention is as good as a live one, but it at least it’s something. One amusing thing is that we’re getting attendees we’d have almost no chance of getting otherwise due to distance and the travel expenses. New friends are being made, and that’s a good thing.

Finances are solidI get a lot of people expressing concern if we can survive the crisis financially. We can and have. We’re treading water, obviously, but we’re weathering the disaster. We’ll be here to resume live shows as soon as we legally can.

What does the future hold?We can now see a light at the proverbial end of the tunnel. I truly believe Gateway 2021 will run as a live convention. Not sure about Gamex 2021, but we’ll see. I plan on pontificating on this very subject at the Feedback Forum (Sun, 7 pm — be there!).

I’m going slightly madI’ve now been in lockdown for 11 months, and so have many of you. Others have had to live with the constant risk of exposure this entire time. No one wanted this. I hope the lot of you are both staying healthy and staying sane. That said, I’ve been impressed by the gaming and convention communities as a whole. Almost everyone realizes we’re in this together, so we must make the best of it. Thank you all.

It’s good to be kingBeing a die-hard Lakers fan I’d be remiss for not congratulating the Los Angeles Lakers for winning the 2020 NBA Championship. And as icing on the cake the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series as well. Both since our last convention. So for us sports fans here it was a good few months.

I pity the game designers ...That try to devise a simulation of 2020 and its aftermath. You know the games are coming (and some already have), but the rules are going to be wacky. An intellectual exercise in game design if there ever was one. I’d hate to try to define the victory conditions.
