Diving into the Classroom!• The students will quietly walk into the

classroom, hang their book bags on their hook, turn their folder into the folder basket (located on the turn-in rack), do daily data, grab 2 sharpened pencils (located on the material desk), find their seat, and start morning work.• During this time I will be taking

attendance/lunch choice and checking folders.

Page 4: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Folders!• The students will have one folder. Included in this

folder will be places for each assignment, conduct form, grades, and money.

• The front of the folder will have a pouch for any money needed. This includes lunch money, snack money, fieldtrip money, etc.

• The first green sleeve will contain the conduct form

with daily conduct color and a weekly conduct grade. It will also contain our bimonthly newsletter. At the end of every week the conduct form will require a parent/guardian signature. Our classroom rules will be listed at the bottom along with the explanation of the color the student has received for that day. If beyond a yellow card, further explanation will be provided in detail.

Folders! (continued)• The second sleeve is blue. This sleeve will contain

any homework, including our homework reading log, packet of weekly grades, and any unfinished work (These will be marked). Grade packets will be sent home each Friday and will require a signature and to be sent back the following Monday.

• In the back of our folder contains a notebook. This is for communication between parents or guardians and me. If you (parents) have any questions, concerns, or comments please write them here. I will be checking this folder daily.

Swimming in late?• If the student is tardy, which means they enter into the

classroom after 8:00, stop by the office and grab a tardy slip. They should then bring the slip to me, and begin their morning work.

• Please continue on the normal morning routine, but the student should make sure they do not disturb any other students! Please try to catch up quickly.(I do not accept sloppy work though!)

• If the student comes to school past 8:15 please see the office to check in. After this he/she should enter the classroom quietly, turn in folder, and ask their partner quietly what he/she should be doing.

• Please try to be on time!!

Page 7: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Absent?• There are two types of absences1. Excused!2. Not Excused!

• If you are absent, make sure you bring a note from home or a doctors excuse the day you return. Please include a phone number for any complications!

• If the student is excused he/she will be able to make up full amount of work. The student can find any work they missed in the “Catch Up” basket.

• If the student is not excused he/she will only be able to make up work for half credit.

• Nobody wants to miss anything, so please be here as much as possible!

Early Dismissal?• Sometimes we have to get out of school early!

• If this happens (which we know it will) This is what will happen….1. The students will pack their things, grab their

folders, and wait for their transportation.2. The parents/guardians will be CALLED and

EMAILED. Parents will need to arrange transportation ASAP if their child is a car rider.

3. If the student is a bus rider, he/she will ride the bus unless further notified.

Page 9: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

The End To A Great Day!• All good things come to an end!

• At 2:30 we will begin to pack up our book bags, grab our folders, sit at our desks, and normally we would discuss one good thing about our day.

• We will also all pick up 5 things that are out of place or trash in our classroom. If students find pieces from centers they will put those pieces in the “I’m Lost” box. I will go back and put those pieces in their correct places later.

• The bus riders will be dismissed first. When they are called at 2:45 they will line up, and walk to the designated area for bus riders.

• Next, the car riders will line up and walk down the hall, out the doors, and sit under the awning and await their ride.

See You Tomorro

Homework • Homework will be an occasional occurrence. If I see the majority

of the classroom is having a difficult time with a certain topic, I will send home helpful practice for the classroom. This will be counted as a grade.

• The students will have a daily reading log. The students will be required to read 15 minutes at home each night! This is for the students’ benefit! The reading log will be located in the blue sleeve of our folders! The parents will be required to sign the reading log each night.

• I don’t want homework to be associated with a bad thing in my classroom! Unless the classroom is having difficulty, there

will be no extra busy work assigned for homework! • The reading log will be checked daily by me, and kept in their folders.

“Happy Birthday Calendar” • At the end of the day we will celebrate a

student’s Birthday by having a time set aside for cupcakes

Page 12: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Student MedicationProcedures• At the beginning of the year each student will be sent

home with a medical form for their parents to fill out and return the next day.• This form includes required regular medications

and dosage times, as well as any allergies.

• If a student requires regular medication, they will be sent during the designated dosage time to the front office to see the school nurse.

Classroom “Always” Rules

1. Always be prepared!

2. Always be a good listener!

3. Always be considerate of others!

4. Always stay POSITIVE!

Page 17: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Token Economy “Pull A Card” System:• Each student has a set of 4 cards.

• The cards are Green(Wonderful Day), Blue (Good Day), Yellow(had some trouble), Red(not a good day)

• They will be hung on the wall where the students can reach them.• If the student misbehaves he/she will first be verbally warned.• If they misbehave again they will pull their card from green to blue.

Blue card means another verbal warning and no loss of conduct points.

• If they continue to misbehave they will be asked to pull their card again from blue to yellow, meaning the student will lose 10 conduct points from their weekly grade. This will be documented on the conduct form.

• If the misbehaving still continues the student will pull their card to red. This means the student will lose an additional 10 points, totaling to 20 points for that week, as well as sitting out 10 minutes from recess.

• Finally, if the student doesn’t stop, there will be a parent teacher conference/office visit and an additional 10 points taken off, totaling 30 deducted points. (Meaning they will receive no higher than a 70 for the week.)

Page 18: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

RewardsThere are many rewards in my classroom!

1. Marble System: This is a weekly reward system. The class will have a jar. I will have marbles with me at all times. I will drop these marbles in the jar periodically when I see things done right, such as: doing what I’ve asked, good group work, no fighting, working quietly and on task, etc. If the class receives 100 marbles by the end of the week the students will receive 10 minutes extra at recess. This reward is up for negotiation, so if the class would rather have extra time at another activity (within reason) I will allow this.

2. Verbal Praise: If I ever see a student or group of students doing things the correct way, and do what I ask of them, I will thank them right then and there!

3. Coupon Machine: At the end of the week the students whose cards have been on green the entire week will get to visit the coupon machine. This will happen every Friday. The coupon machine holds coupons such as: Homework pass, 5 minutes of computer time, 3 bonus points on spelling test, etc. These are valuable coupons and can only be used once. If the students really want this, they will know to behave.

Way to go!!

Page 19: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Seat Work• I expect students to be quiet and cooperative while

sitting and doing their work.• Students will receive verbal praise if I see them

working diligently on their seat work.• Also, marbles will be added to the classroom jar

if the class as a whole is working extra hard.• If I see students that are not working, they will be

warned once and then they will have to move their card from green to blue if they keep acting up.

Page 20: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Working Together• I believe in working together a great deal in my classroom! The

students will participate in a lot of discussion and group projects!• I will assign groups until I get to know the students a little more.

Once the trust is built, they will be allowed to choose their own groups. If that trust is broke, I will begin assigning groups again.

• While in groups, I will be monitoring their discussions and progress as they work together. If the voice level grows to be too loud, I will mark a tally on the board. If it continues I will mark another. If I have to mark 3 tallies the group work will be over and the students will work independently without discussion.

Page 21: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Whole group/Small group

Reading Block• We will start our reading block off with whole group. We will read together, answer questions, work on vocabulary, etc.

• We will then break off into small groups. We will be practicing the Daily 5 in our classroom. This means the students will have 5 choices in the reading block small groups.

1. Read to Self2. Read to Someone3. Listen to Reading4. Word Work5. Work on Writing

Page 22: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Whole group/Small group

Reading Block (continued)• Our small group will consist of 4 different groups. These

groups will be based on their reading levels.

1. Jelly Fish 2. Dolphins

3. Sharks 4. Octopuses

• The reading stations will move according to a chime I will keep behind my table.

Page 23: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Noise and Traveling• I expect the classroom noise level to be

moderate, and if it starts to get too loud marbles will be deducted from the classroom jar.

• When moving between subjects or into special classes, the students will be prompted to clean up their area and pay attention to my directions with the word SQUIRREL or chimes.• If students still do not hear my instructions I

will use the clap once, clap twice technique.• While lined up students are expected

to stay quiet and to keep their hands to themselves.

• If done properly, marbles will be added.

Page 24: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

When Work is Finished Early…• When students finish their seat work

early they have two options;• Pull out a library book and read quietly

or refer to the “I’m Done” Chart• This chart includes thing such as, read

a book, draw, work on spelling words, catch up on any unfinished work, etc.

Page 25: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

When at Learning Stations...• When the students are working in their learning stations,

whether it be math or reading, the students refer to a chart in the front of the room. At this chart they will write the stations they will be attending when not pulled back with me for small group.

• We will practice practice practice before we can work independently in our stations. When I believe class is ready to work alone in their stations, the students are expected to work independently, unless the station calls for discussion or reading to one other.

• The noise level is to be kept at a minimum, due to the lesson going on at small group. If I have to warn more than once, marbles will be taken away from the classroom jar.

Page 26: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

When at Learning Stations (Continued…)

• When transitioning between stations the students will be triggered by the chime below my table. Once in habit, the student will quietly get up, clean up their station, check the chart for their next destination, and move to it.

• The students will fill in the chart with their desired center at the beginning of reading block. They will be called by their group to fill it in quickly. The small group meeting with me is already filled in for each student. The students only fill in 3 slots for the remaining stations.

• The chart will be large enough so that every student can see exactly where their next destination is without moving their feet. This will prevent from crowding around the board, which allows for chatter.

Page 27: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Materials Table• There will be a materials table located in the

back of the room (away from the teachers desk) which has every material the students will need.• This is their table and they will treat it nicely. The table

holds things such as: Their writing folder, scissors, crayons, pencils, paper, books, magazines, etc.

• If a student needs something from the material table they are welcome to get it themselves. The materials being used will be returned at the end of the day. This is so I can ensure the materials will be there later for the students to use such as pencils.

• I will sharpen the pencils myself. There are no pencil sharpeners allowed in my classroom. All the sharped pencils the students will need will be provided by myself.

Page 28: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Other classroom materials• Computers are to be used for centers and AR

testing. If they are misused the students computer privileges will be taken away.

• The classroom library is Mrs. Rayburn’s and I would really love it if the students took care of my books. If I see any student abusing the books, their privileges will be taken away.

Page 29: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Borrowing • If a student needs to borrow

anything from a friend or myself, he/she may ask for the object. Respect the other person’s decision.

• If a student would like to borrow a book from my library, they may ask first then sign the “book out” sign up sheet. The book may only stay gone for a week, then the student must return it.

• The students should always take care of one another’s property! They would want others to

take care of theirs!

Page 30: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Bathroom Breaks!• We will take 2 bathroom breaks throughout the day

as a class. If a bathroom break is further needed for a student he/she will go to the door, sign out, hold up the bathroom sign (while standing still) and wait for me to give the OK.

• The students do not come and ask me personally and interrupt me.

• Students are not allowed to get up during whole group and go, but during small group they are welcome to go as long as they stand with the sign properly and sign out.

• The students are able to visit the water fountain inside the classroom at any point during the day, except for whole group lesson time.

Page 31: Trophy Elementary School Room 13 School Phone Number: (205) 867-5309 Email: hrayburn@TES.eduhrayburn@TES.edu Website: TES.edu.

Communicating with Parents!• Communicating with you (parents) is very important

to me! I want there to be complete understanding of everything that is going on with your child at school.

• We will be able to stay in touch through phone calls, emails, and the child’s notebook.

• You will also receive a bimonthly newsletterwhich has our monthly calendar, any reminders the parents need, any upcoming events, etc.

• Your child will have a packet of grades that you will receive each Friday. You will be able to review their work, and see what they are excelling and struggling in. On the top of the packet will be a small sheet stapled. It will have a signature and date slot to prove you have

seen your child's grades.• And a reminder if you have any questions, comments,

or concerns please let me know!
