The troop traveled up to Candlewood Lake on a rainyFriday night and slept in cabins. The next day they wentcanoeing and went to the cove. After having lunch theyjumped off huge rocks and had splash contest. For des-sert that night, they had cake made by Ben C. in a dutchoven. It was Ben's first time baking a cake in the dutchoven. TROOP 9 COURT OF HONOR - September 25, 2008
Some options for displaying or storing patches acquired through various Scouting events, i.e. summer camp, camporees, special trips, etc. are shown below. You can also sew the patches on the Troop’s new 85th anni-versary fleece or place them in display frames or shadow boxes. Scrapbooking is also an option and booksand supplies may be purchased at the CT Yankee Council store or online. These patches are nice mementosof the activities you’ve participated in.
With each rank advancement(Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd class,1st class, Star, Life, Eagle) ascout receives a pin and apatch for their shirt pocket, in
addition to a pin to be given to their parent. Parent pinscan be displayed on this ribbon at right.
All items shown here may be found at theScoutStuff link on the Troop 9 website.
At the Court of Honor a number of important issues were discussed with regard to advancement, meritbadges, pins and patches. With each merit badge earned the scout receives a merit badge, a pocket sizedcertificate, and the EVER IMPORTANT BLUE CARD. The completed and signed SOLID light bluecard is your only proof that the Scout actually earned the badge. While Council generally keeps veryaccurate records, sometimes there are problems. It was suggested that you safeguard these cards bykeeping them in a binder with baseball card-type plastic insert pages.
The actual merit badges should be sewn onto a sash (pictured at left) andworn as part of the full Class A uniform.

What is my fundraising goal? Each scout in Troop 9 has an individual goal of $250 in sales. This goal can be met by selling popcorn - either in “take orders,” online sales, or helping at a “Show & Sell” - and/or by selling holiday wreaths.
What are scout credits and how are they earned?Scouts earn credits after reaching their $250 goal; they are equal to 20% of sales over $250, with an adjustment for wreaths. Credits may be applied to the costof Scouting-related trips such as summer camp or the ski weekend or day trip (not including food or gas), or can be used toward the purchase of gear.
An example of a Scouts Credit calculation:
Sales Credits
Popcorn “take-order” sales 75 75
Popcorn “show & sell” (total sales for the day are split
equally between all participating scouts) 109 109
Wreaths - 10 small x $18 180 180
Wreaths - 2 large x $65 130 36*
*all wreaths earn the same amt of credit regardless of their sales price)
TOTAL SALES 494 400
This scout’s sales of $494 qualifies him for the Invitational Trip. The credits of $400, minus the goal of $250, leaves a difference of $150 - 20% of the $150gives the scout $30 in scout credits.
What is the Invitational Trip? The Invitational Trip, held in May, is a reward for Scouts that meet their individual fundraising goal. It is a lot of fun and past Invitational's have been awhite-water rafting adventure, highlights of Boston including the Freedom Trail, and a trip to Cooperstown with the Baseball Hall of Fame and Howe Cav-erns as a few of the stops.
Where is this year’s Invitational Trip? The destination is Martha’s Vineyard for a weekend of bicycling. Scouts and adult chaperones will carpool to the Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole, MAon Friday night, May 15th and use sleeping bags in the church hall. The group will walk to the ferry for the trip to Martha’s Vineyard after breakfast. Rentedbikes will await them on the island and there will be a vehicle to transport gear and monitor the bikers. Scouts will ride together in small groups, some withchaperones, choosing their own routes and lunch plans. Everyone will meet at a hostel late Saturday afternoon with time for whiffleball, football and boardgames. The hostel is described as a good quality budget accommodation that offers a comfortable night’s sleep in comfortable surroundings. Our group usu-ally takes up most of the beds at the hostel; it is a dormitory, bunk bed style, separated by gender. Dinner Saturday night will be in the large common kitchenarea, maybe lobster, probably steaks, and definitely hot dogs. Breakfast on Sunday, May 17th will also be there, before getting back on the bikes and headingfor the ferry depot and the trip home.
Each Scout’s ferry, bike rental and lodging are paid from the proceeds of your fundraising efforts.Scouts will be asked to pay a flat amount (yet to bedetermined) for food and fuel for the drivers. Lunches on Saturday and Sunday are not included and need to be paid individually at the Scouts expense.Adults will pay their own costs. Plan for costs in the $125-150 range.
