TROOP 306 GEAR LIST - Weekend Backpacking TripScouts are responsible to go through the Gear List carefully. Scouts must pack their own packs! List includes items for'
summer, winter and transition period (spring and fall) backpacking trips. Scouts should have an understanding of both
the trip environment (destination, weather, etc.) and the activities (snowshoeing, patrol cooking, etc.) in order to
understand the proper equipment to pack. If you have any questions ....ASK!
o Permission Form
Twelve Essentialso 2 large mouth Nalgene water bottles (full)
o Waterproof & breathable rain gear (jacket andpants)
o Chapstick
o Sunblock
o Insect Repellent (cream or pump only, no
aerosol)
o Compass and map (map if available)
o 1 Insulating layer (fiber filled puffy jacket, wool /synthetic sweater or 2 fleece tops)
o Headlamp with extra batteries
o First aid kit (small personal kit)
o Matches / Fire Starter
o Pocket knife
o 2 x 1 gallon zip-lee bags (these are spare)
04 x 10 foot lengths of parachute cord (or 40')o Repair Kit (Duct Tape, wire ties, bailing wire)
o Whistle
o Snacks you enjoy on the trail (NOT ALL CANDY)
o Tarp / Ground cloth
o Backpack large enough to carryall your gear
o Large trash bag to line backpack. Always use one!
o Lightweight shoes of rubber soled slippers for
tent / cabin
o Boots: Hiking or insulated winter (with
removable linings)
02 pairs wool or synthetic hiking socks (+1 pair
worn)
o 1 pair synthetic tops & bottoms base layer or
synthetic tops & bottoms long underwear
[Winter] (+1 pair worn)
o Sleeping Bag (0 Degree or equal with jacket)
o Sleeping pads (2 closed cell or 1 closed cell & 1air for winter)
o Toiletries (Toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper,personal meds)
o Mess Kit (lightweight container, insulated mug,
spoon / spork)
o Baseball type hat (may be replaced by Warm Hat
as appropriate)
o Warm Hat - Wool or heavy fleece (may be worn)
02 pair waterproof gloves / mittens (1 may be
worn)
o Balaclava or face gator [Winter]
o Goggles (for wind and snow protection) [Winter]
o Chemical Heater Packs (Hot Hands) [Winter]
o Hiking Poles
o Hiking towel (small synthetic towel to wipe face)
o Drink Mixes (Gatorade, Energy Drink, Hot Cocoa)
o Small Day Pack (as needed)
o Micro-Spikes [Winter]

o Food (food items will be discussed in detail priorto the trip to determine number and type
required, i.e. dehydrated,cold lunch; etc.)
