On Monday May 13th the Trochu Valley School Elementary students took part in a Walk-A-
Thon Fundraiser. Grades K-6 walked, ran, jumped and crawled a total of 6,218 laps in the gymnasium in one hour. The Walk-A-thon was a huge success and raised $5,691.50!
Family, friends and neighbours helped our fundraising endeavor by pledging our students. All proceeds will stay in our school community to be used to enhance the elementary
programs at Trochu Valley School. A variety of active living prizes were awarded to the K- 6 students for their participation and fundraising efforts. Grades 3 and 6 earned the ice cream cookie party for running the most laps on average. Families who raised $150 or
more had their name drawn for 10 single visit family swim passes donated by the Town of Trochu! Staff, students and parents of Trochu Valley School had a great time planning,
organizing, volunteering and participating in this worthwhile fundraiser
Sr High track divisionals were held in Trochu on May 16. We had 6 athletes participate and all 6 went to zones in Calgary on May 22. There was some tough competition, but our athletes tried
their best in all of their events. Sr High Athletes: EJ Abasola, Molly Aellen, Ashley Gagyi, Mark Gamboa, John Mark Lajato &
Ryley Schmidt. Jr High divisionals took place in Linden on May 22. We had 16 athletes attend, and 7 went on to
compete at zones in Calgary on May 28. Again, there was some tough competition, but our athletes all tried their best.
Jr High Athletes: Harvy Abasola-Zones, Clara Aellen, Maille Cheshire, Justine Dela Cruz, Casey Fetterly, Cydney Fetterly, Alex Flores-Zones, Kaden Franke-Zones, Alix Geier, Kyro Janke-Zones,
Daylan McRae, Holden Murray, Charlie Olson, Hayden Peterson-Zones, Boris San Pedro-Zones, Bryan San Pedro, Kiera Wagstaff-Zones.

Thank You Tro Val Parent Council What a wonderful Hot Lunch we had in May.

long. We look forward to the year end BBQ that is free to all Tro- Val students.
PHOTOS WANTED…. The Yearbook Committee has been working very
hard to complete the 2018-2019 Yearbook. They are in need of a few more candid photos to
add to the pages of the book. If you have any sports photos, class activity
photos, concert photos, etc. we would appreciate if you could forward them to the committee via Mrs. Moriarty at [email protected]
Trochu Valley School would like to Thank Mr. Alex Kwon, owner of
Trochu Family Foods, for his generous donation of ice cream
treats to our school. The students worked very hard on May 9 to ‘Tidy Up Trochu’, gathering up many bags
of trash and garbage. It was very nice to have an ice cream treat when they got back to the school. Thanks again to Mr. Kwon for his kindness and generosity to our students and
school.
We would also like to thank the Communities in Bloom &
Mrs. Christine Vokins for organizing ‘Tidy Up Trochu for us. Your

Remember to check out our website:
http://trochuvalley.ghsd75.ca/
For updated important updates and information on a variety of school
related events and happenings.
The Grade 2's, 5's and 6's were asked to help plant our school garden. And HELP they did! It is now planted FULL of potatoes, carrots, spaghetti squash, zucchini, corn, beans, tomatoes,
cucumbers, sunflowers, peppers AND watermelon and cantaloupe for extra fun! It took about
48 minutes to plant the entire garden with ALL of these willing, helping hands. No one wanted to stop working and they kept asking for MORE to plant! There was lots of
discussion, chatter and excitement about the produce that will feed our school next year with our Hot Lunch programs. I also heard many comments about how much they enjoyed being outside and doing this activity! It is wonderful to live in a rural community where we can
provide powerful learning experiences right in our back yard! Thanks also to our photographer student who helped plant and was able to take lots of photos for us! When the
plants come up...we will count and give you a tally as to actually how many plants there are...and there are a LOT. The best part about our Weed-Less garden is, of course, little to zero weeds but also that plants can be planted so much closer together and we utilize the
ground space so much more efficiently.

SENIOR BAND TRIP…
The Senior Band went on their annual Band Trip from May 2 - 4. The students performed in Linden, Strathmore, Okotoks, & High River. These
concerts were a highlight for both students and their audiences. The Band got to stay in Calgary and were able to attend “Billy Elliot the Musical” at
Theatre Calgary. The group did some bowling, and spent several hours on Saturday at Cross Iron Mall.
Thank you to the parents who volunteered as chaperones, and to the Band Parent Support Society for their monetary assistance which makes this annual event
possible.
THANK YOU - TROCHU VALLEY SCHOOL PARENT COUNCIL and all TRO –VAL VOLUNTEERS
The Students and Staff at Trochu Valley School would like to extend a huge Thank you to all of the wonderful people, community groups and businesses that have volunteered at and/or donated to our school. We are extremely fortunate to have
such a generous and committed group of people assisting us here at Tro-Val. From the excellent lunches, field trip funding, use of facilities, classroom help, treats,
coaching, $ donations, the list is endless! We are truly blessed. We thank you all for your time, commitment and dedication to the students, school
and staff.

Thank You Parent Council Trochu Valley School would like to thank Tro Val Parent Council for their amazing support of our school. From Hot Lunches, Birthday Books, Awards, Staff Appreciation, Drama, Curling, Special
Event funding to Equipment purchases, they help us out so much. We are extremely grateful for the monetary assistance Parent Council gives to help fund field trips.
Without their contribution the cost of bussing would have to come from our families and can be rather expensive. Without the help of Parent Council a lot of these events would not be possible.
Thank you again to our most amazing parent council! If you are needing to contact parent council, please email Deb at [email protected]
15 Trochu Valley Students Honored at the Annual Breakfast of Champions
On May 16th, the Tro-Val staff was up bright and early cooking a delicious breakfast for 15 deserving students. Each student had been chosen for demonstrating qualities of excellence that are not recognized through academic or sports awards. The task of choosing only one student per staff member is very difficult as we have a school full of champions!! This year’s recipients were: Molly Aellen, Carter Baldwin, Sawye Charles, Davin Charles, JC-Lyn Clearwater, Ben Dicks, Cole Hambleton, Lucus Hepting, Lizah Hogg, Bristol Kober, Kaley Kowalchuk, Olivia Moriarty, Stephanie Paul, (missing) Tristan Tetz and Evan Vokins.
Congratulations to our Champions!
Trochu Valley Snak Shak
We are winding down and have limited stock left.
We will continue to have frozen treats and
smaller snack items for the next few weeks.
Thanks to everyone for supporting us this year!

2018/2019 JR ATB Wrap Up As we wrap up the 2018/2019 JR ATB session, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Trochu Valley School, the teachers, parents, students and our wonderful JR ATB staff for a great year. This was our first year partnering with Tro Val School to offer this
program. Back in November we launched the JR ATB concept for the grade 4 - 6 students. We invited all interested students to complete a job application which was
followed up by an interview process. We selected our staff (everything from tellers to board members) and were excited to get the ball rolling. Starting in the new year, we
hosted 8 deposit days allowing students to grow their savings. Throughout the year we had 57 deposits totalling almost $700. We had various promotions throughout the year
giving away ATB swag, bonus cash deposits and entries to win a google home mini. On our final deposit day, every deposit allowed that student to enter their class into a draw
for an ICE CREAM PARTY!! The grade 4 class was the winners and enjoyed a cool treat on a hot day. The JR ATB staff was very excited to draw for the GOOGLE HOME
MINI which was won by Mrs. Howard. We wrapped up our year with a pizza party for the JR ATB staff.
This years JR ATB staff included: CEO: Janessa Doyle Vice Chairperson: Kallie Hogg Secretary: Chealzy LaBangco Treasurer: Fiona John M Munoz Marketing Manager: Desiree Schmidt Community Officer: Owen Hunt Chief Compliance Officer: Lucus Hepting Tellers: Nigel Gaboury, Lucas Hoppins, Griffyn Martin and Grace Bauer Back Cash: Tyson Fretz and Chase Andersen Greeters: Hailey Sigurdson, Olivia Hoppins and Bristol Kober We had a great year and look forward to next year!!
