EFFECTIVE POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS

TEXT GUIDELINES
No more than 6 words per line
No more than 6 lines a slide
Keep it simple! No unnecessary words!
RUN SPELLCHECK!
Pick colors wisely:
READ ME^ That is not easy to
read, and it can give
people a headache.
COLOR
Use colors sparingly, 2
to 3 at
most
Any clipart or graphics
should have the same
color
theme as slides
Not all colors match!
VISUAL IMAGES• Should enhance and
complement the text,
not overwhelm!
• Images too small are
not helpful
• Keep graphs, charts
and diagrams simple,
if possible.
FONT
Font size generally ranges from 18 to 48 point Titles should be bigger than the text body!
Fancy Fonts can be hard to read
SENTENCES IN CAPTIALS CAN BE TOUGH TO
READ!!! (or it could seem like you’re yelling)
BULLET POINTS
Do not get crazy with bullet points• It is distracting
• It can start to be obnoxious• If there is a new topic, start a new slide
• Don’t try to fit everything in one slide
Don’t use a lot of arrows either!
