Status and Early Experience of CSR

• Feedback since implementation

– Feedback from industry

•“Some corrigenda are actually Rule changes as they impact scantlings”

•“Urgent corrections are still required for the rules”

•“Rules result in unreasonable increases in some scantlings”

•“Most Rule Change proposals seem to result in a reduction of scantlings”

•“No proper feedback loop to the Technical Committees on their comments”

Status and Early Experience of CSR

• Feedback since implementation

– IACS CSR structure has been dealing with urgent questions and requests for interpretation, but the structure is not set up to handle feedback that requires longer term technical review

– The Technical Committees of the ten Members have a wide representation of the Industry and they are part of the Members’ governance structure. The communication and feedback loop needs to be strengthened

– In response to feedback IACS decided to strengthen the CSR maintenance and harmonization structure

Status and Early Experience of CSR

• CSR maintenance and harmonization

– Hull Panel represents the technical authority on hull structures within IACS

– CSR maintenance will have the highest priority for the Hull Panel

– CSR harmonization requires longer term projects and effective project management

– Small Group on CSR will provide direction for the further development and maintenance of CSR

– IACS continues to cross-check software and review results in order to gain assurance that the various software tools and the design review procedures meet the aim of CSR in terms of producing common results
